  1. Here we go again....No hesitation please this is an unbelievable price! SanDisk Ultra II SDSSDHII-240G-G25 2.5" 240GB SATA Revision 3.0 (6 Gb/s) Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=20-173-011&utm_medium=Email&nm_mc=EMC-GD110314&cm_mmc=EMC-GD110314-_-index-_-Item-_-20-173-01
  2. Those numbers defy the headline because if those numbers are true when 8 was 8% ( at end of XP not sure where they get 6.7) and 7 was 43% so that would suggest that more went to 7 from XP than to 8 by a big amount.
  3. Most browser issues "fixed" are for security reasons though. And if you look seriously the majority of Microsoft updates are also for security reasons but bear in mind security does not only mean infection...in fact more often then not it has to do with breaches which have to do with entry and not infection.
  4. Yeah I'll bet!
  5. You fixed it I was seeing half the post...
  6. Ok this one I like!!!
  7. I totally disagree with leaving on all the time.....main reason to do a cold boot now and then is to let memory reset which avoids wackiness. "Modern computers have more robust components"? Part the sand and breath in some air please! Mass production and bigger sizes have brought less stability. Most new mechanical hard drives are crap. Do we really believe warranties were cut back because the products are better? Disagree on virus to with the exception of newest pcs with 8 gb ram or more. If I were blinded tomorrow I can feel an infection in the reaction time on a pc. I am not saying the average user can.
  8. Isn't this all superfluous in Windows 8 and beyond? I believe there the updates are automatic.
  9. First of all Dougie there is no one security program as you know that can stop everything and browser updates are one major step, perhaps more important than Av or Antimalware program because it prevents inception....I have always felt the best defense against malware is at the gate before entry not recognition and repulsion at later stages.
  10. I like some of these better! NIce update.
  11. I know the banner say "update to 8.1" however it is an upgrade really because it is an OS all to its own being saold that way. That is why the codes for 8.0 do not work on 8.1, because it is not really an update, they couldn't.
  12. Your terminology is wrong Mike, you didn't update to 8.1 you upgraded to 8.1 and that is why you cannot undo it basically.
  13. Mike that problem isn't new although prior units would have had stickers at least to tell you the version. There are Windows 8 and 8.1 stickers underneath every laptop with it installed they would say Pro if that were pro as I have seen a few however, if you play the odds, the failure of 8 came mostly from businesses who never adopted it so 98% of the units you see are standard for that reason. The standard versions just say Windows 8 and there were no Home Premium or basic versions anyway. Remember also they did away with oem and retail in 8.1 so we do not have to worry about that issue either for finding the right disk. A system builders disk would have all versions on it and the disk identifies the Coa which determines which version to use so having one of them would be the easiest way to solve the issue and I have seen same available for sale on eBay.
  14. Yeah and what do we lose when we disable that?
  15. Damn Uefi and secure boot seem to survive being turned off in bios often times. I just had an HP laptop where I could boot to a cd by using F9 after shutting off Secure Boot and Uefi but it would still boot to them if I failed to hit F9. The F codes seem different in every brand.
  16. I don't believe that can be done as it is not like an Update but why would you want to anyway as Windows 8.1 runs so much better than 8.
  17. Remember the main reason for browser updates N3 is security patches so with an old version, there are none being done going forward.
