  1. I think it is in your head as FF is very much like IE these days. Chrome I can un derstand anyone not liking as the interface is really spartan and I had to force myself to use it.
  2. I run that on every system I look at and never find anything there.
  3. I agree Bob. IE has always been to stiff and unbending and that's where the other browsers have always excelled with giving the public what they want so I am excited about the change.
  4. Geek Squad and Staples screw-ups are some of my best referrals
  5. Happy New Year MIke and everyone else here as well as we enjoy our first New Year together!
  6. Mike, anyone of us who won't admit to an occasional "Google" to solve a difficult issue is probably a liar. But I have known many Mcse certified people who didn't know how to take a side off a tower as well so to me the certification means exactly nothing. I saw that when early on I went to take those courses. The other thing I saw was techs who were Mcse certified in say Windows 2000 who didn't even know what Windows 7 was.
  7. Twice I did take courses once on MIcrosoft and once on hardware and honestly I left both courses when I realized how much more I knew than the people giving the courses. I would bet Dan would say the same thing as would a lot of people in my business. Self taught is difficult to prove but then the majority of my new clients are referrals actually anyway though I do advertise in a couple of Merchandisers and a few town books published quarterly.
  8. Me neither. I "hob nobbed" with two of the 4 people who wrote the Apple OS, that Windows was based on, but I have nothing on paper Dougie.
  9. I have had a 240 gb San Disk in my Dell All-in-One now for about 4 months and it is no different from any other ssd that I can see and it really made that "fart box" into a screamer I have to tell you!

  13. OK Mike, expressed that way, I have to agree with your thinking.
  14. Well I think the "governing body" solution goes too far as I imagine you do as well. The market will pay what the user will bear really. If you believe what you said, then you have to charge what you do. Mike I am an ex New Yorker and I grew up in a very different era in NYC. I cannot accept what you think on pricing and you and I have been down this road before on this subject and I also understand I will not change your mind but let me share a quick story with you. Most of my peers on KH believed I was too inexpensive and I was at $45 per hour.Since joining a Linkedin Computer Business Forum I have been exposed to a guy in Western Canada (Vancouver) with a highly successful shop who charges $90 per hour and gets it with no issue. He in fact doesn't want anyone in his shop who would question that so he openly suggests they check around and come back if they are not sold on what he can do for them. He also sells desktops and laptops at list price and adds 2 hour prep charge to that to ready it for the client, things that I do for nothing and always have which includes moving files and setting up Av and word processors etc...and they have to pay that whether he moves anything or not. He is a smart guy with an answer for everything as you might well imagine and has been in that location for about 30 years and seen them come and go offering half his price and not making it. I really believe as he does that it isn't about price its about you. If you believe you are worth $50 an hour then you will get it. I had not taken a price increase for many years but after getting to know this guy and a few others on that forum I have raised prices each year $5 an hour and had 0 resistance. While I do advertise in local town books and Merchandisers my main source of clients is word of mouth and that would not be if I were too expensive and that is what he taught me.
  15. It's just the cheapo bargain models that do that though.
  16. I hear you but then again you know I feel you are too much of a bargain. It is so damn tough to get manuals that are helpful on these and All-in-Ones that I really don't want to start replacing Lcd screens and cpus but under normal circumstances I will clean them out, replace hard drives and update memory, I just don't want to do much more than that. Some of these wqhere the hard drive is under the keyboard are scary with these big fingers.
  17. Yes I think you are right Mike. Actually I donm't do as much as I used to on laptops, my fingers are just too big.
