"PUPS" are best explained as "Probably Unwanted Programs" and you need to be careful as they are not actually Malware but are rather Malware enablers and as such most AV programs require you include "PUP" Removal as an option so be sure they are checked for removal in whatever you are using when you install the solutions. Most Security Mods today are aware that while Malwarebytes used to be the very best program for Malware Removal, it is slipping and its scanning ability is on the wane. Usually as the program begins to slip into security it focuses on other types of removal to make up for what it can no longer be effective against thus SAS, the once great Spyware removal programs became primarily a remover of tracking cookies and became less and less effective against actual Malware. Mbam today is of little use controlling these new types of malware thus I believe has concentrated on "PUPS" in newer versions to make up for what it no longer is that good at and other programs are surpassing its ability. What really stunned me this week was running every cleaner I know of and cleaning a system without protection since 2009 that miraculously was still running, then running Mbam to remove 95 PUPS. Only to run HItman Pro as an after thought and remove an MBR Rootkit and another common Rootkit afterwards Mbam should have removed easily and would have a few years ago. When I see things like that I know it is time to move on and while this isn't the first time, it could have had the most serious consequences.

Is your PC infected--Are you ready for any diaster??
Rich-M replied to donetao's topic in Tech Help and Discussions
I agree that Macrium is quite easy to use and if you want to do is make image files and clone drives free version is all you will need. Another great advantage of Macrium over most image programs is it has a Windows Rescue Disk to restore from as well as a Linux Rescue Disk and this solves some issues for average usres as the drive numbers in Windows PE will be exact so no possible restoring the wrong drive etc as there are some things that can and have happened using a Linux Rescue disk including when Windows 8 was released no Linux recognized Windows 8 so none of the backup image programs worked at all until changes were made. -

I use Emsisoft AntiMalware (is both Av and AM), Wot, Adblock Plus, and Win Patrol. But I also make mage files at least monthly with Macrium Reflect Standard and I run Handy Backup to synchronize files and data hourly. Now the file and data plan is a bit different because all my files are on a server so my file bnackup is basically done from the server into a second hard drive om main desktop and an external drive on All-ion-One and laptop making all pcs backup machines. I should add the server is protected by Emsisoft Server version as well. Rather than run Raid which I have 0 interest in I have extra SSD drives in the server to also backup the files and data daily. -

You need this free software from Malwarebytes!
Rich-M replied to donetao's topic in Tech Help and Discussions
I think we can get crazy locaing our systems with freebies most of which don't do anything anyway. Want a good platform? Use Wot, Adblock Plus, Emsisoft Internet Security (or MBam and Nod32), and Win Patrol and you got it all! -

Just bear in mind this is beta software. I was putting it in client machines and then the test period is up and they were all calling me to find out how to stop the messages and then uninstalling the wrong program to get rid of it! -
I never recommend Ccleaner, there is no reason to clean a hard drive anyway. BTW I don't know if you know this but the more on the drive, the faster it moved. If you have to do that and again few drives today are more than 20% full anyway. I suggest TFC cleaner or ATF Cleaner. http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/tfc/ http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/atf_cleaner.html These are the ones the Security Mods recommend.

Yeah I was going to say I would not use it to change fan speeds. I moved on to use Hardware Monitor anyway which offers more. -
I am back to Chrome until the next time it screws up.

You have the newest versions. Overall I find this way more stable than FF. My only issue is occasionally with pdf files as some will just not open.

It has now been 5 days since he first emailed him and 4 email I have sent him to help, the first of which gave him a path out which was to mail me $50 and I would send him his hard drive and 2 dvds with files on them and we are done. Funny he called me within 5 hours his system was still slow, but can't respond in 5 days to the solutions? I think we are just done. I feel so bad:devil: he has almost 4 Gb of pictures he said he doesn't have copies of and I just found out I can turn him off with Emsisoft and reuse the code as well (He didn't quite have enough money to pay me that day so there is a balance and of course he has no checking account, deadbeats never do)...win win my side!

Want to Get Rid of USB Docking Port-$59.99
Rich-M replied to Rich-M's topic in Tech Help and Discussions
Inwin is a nice case maker too even their psus are decent and well priced also Cindy. What sold me is the the hot swap dock too as I have a new build and case but I have two of those stupid docks for usb on my desk as the one holds 2 externals I use myself and the other is to avoid having a bench machine and this is better yet taking the other off the desk. You should try the whie, it stays so clean I mean it I have yet to wipe off either of the two I had there. They never show any dust. The only thing I am not thrilled with is the transparent side because you have to be real careful with those. This started with an Enermax case that was in white and has this dock also but is discontinued everywhere and I saw this with the same thing by accident. BTW Directron has the same price with free freight this weekend over $50 and they have the Athenatech Psus for $33 and the Logisys for $21 so I bought there as those aren't light weight and Newegg wants freight on Logisys and doesn't carry Athenatech. They are a decent unit for the average client though I wouldn't dare use for my own units. New build huh! Sounds like a winner. I think you would love the FX series 8320 or 8350 or 70- 8 cores and you would see a nice jump there + you could try some 2133 ram as well. I don't like going higher than that with ram as it can be a bit unstable in my experience. Personally I like the FM2+ and you can almost skip the Pci-X video card if so inclined as they score pretty well and I have the A10-7850k Kaveri in this rig and I like it a lot. -
Check this out a built in docking port on the top of this case eliminates the need for a Usb docking port on your desk. And the beauty of it it plugs into a sata port not a usb conversion port without taking the side off the case so it will work more of the time. Say goodbye to a bench machine with this one!!!!! And for the faint at heart it also comes in black though I like the stylish white and this will be my third that I have never dusted not even once! http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811108434 Oh and did I mention free freight?
