  1. Nope, the mouse is not visible with this OEM disk
  2. ok thanks, will let you know what happens after I get the OEM disk later today.
  3. So does this mean that the mouse problem can be related to the disk or OS on the disk I am using?
  4. Yes, I had tried the disc a few times since last night, my disc is a bootable disc made from an ISO, the owner will be dropping off the OEM disc for this unit a little while so I will try with that. Meantime I just ran the Disk Health option from Parted Magic Linux disk, shows no errors.
  5. As shown in this link, since the mouse is not working I can't run chkdsk from the win7 dvd: https://kb.wisc.edu/page.php?id=6565
  6. One problem is on the win7 install screen the mouse is not visible so it's not like I am seeing it and it's not moving. How can I run chkdsk on this machine please?
  7. Far as I am being told by the owner, this unit came with win7 but he upgraded to win8 and now wants to revert back to win7 after he started getting this error message on boot up: "Error: No boot disk has been detected or the disk has failed". So I am attempting to reload win7 now but seems the wireless mouse which came with it is not working, only the wireless KB works. I just tried a wired KB and that works too but not a wired mouse which I need to make the selection to install windows, it's not the USB slots because the KB's work in both slots. I just loaded Knoppix, the mouse works fine in knoppix so I am lost here, any ideas please?
  8. Thanks so then my main problem whenever someone brings a pc with a corrupted drive and recovery will be how to know which version was installed on that unit, no way to get this info from the bios?
  9. Ok guys, the disks are bootable, it was the legacy issue which was preventing it from booting on that machine. What I'd like to know now is since the versions in the download link are win8 Pro, what happens if I load on a machine which has win8 standard, would he embedded license still work?
  10. When the owner gets the new HDD and brings back the laptop I will look into this, thanks.
  11. From what I understand this relates to USB drive and not a machine's internal drive?
  12. Not saying you're wrong but I find that very hard to believe Rich, for what possible reason would they do this and when you put a movie into the drive, how would you get it to play without having to open the file in explorer?
  13. Well it was the HDD, new HDD works lightning fast and no wireless issues, only the dvd doesn't autoplay.
  14. It's ok, I used Gparted to convert the disk to GPT, installing win8 on the new disk now, will let you guys know in a few.
  15. I am trying to create 2 dvd's with win8 pro [32 and 64bits] and 2 with win8.1 from this link: http://getintopc.com/softwares/operating-systems/download-windows-8-pro/ I installed Magiciso utility to make sure the win8 iso file is bootable and created the disk in imgburn but when I tried it this morning, the system would not boot from the disk but boots fine from another disk with win8 on it, any ideas please?
  16. The disk is 500gb, I am not sure how/where to find the legacy boot option? In the Advanced tab, I am seeing 2 options for boot mode [uEFI and CSM boot]
  17. So I am trying anew HDD and disabled the Secure boot but when it comes to the 'Where you want to install windows" screen and I select the partition, I am getting an error message stating: "Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk has an MBR partition table. On EFI systems, windows can only be installed to GPT disks. Windows cannot be installed to this disk. This computer's hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure that the disk's controller is enabled in the computer's bios menu" I am not seeing the "disk controller" anywhere in the bios?
  18. still doesn't explain why the word "cloud" is associated with this?
  19. Oh I see, sorry I missed that but still nothing seems to work with those drivers so I am thinking it's safe to now to replace the HDD?
  20. I tried the Atheros wireless LAN driver but getting a message: windows has detected a hard disk problem. I am not seeing a chipset driver on that page?
  21. Oh sorry I did not give the model number it is c855-S5347
  22. I have a feeling something's up with the HDD but was able to reload win8 64 bit but looking for the correct wireless and usb drivers, I tried these drivers here but reloading only 2 drivers are showing as yellowed in the device manager, the wireless and usb drivers, I can connect to the net wired but can't seem to find these 2 drivers. I looked at this thread: http://forums.toshiba.com/t5/Drivers-and-Utilities/Satellite-C855-S5347-drivers-missing/td-p/475183 and tried those drivers but when I try to run it, it shows "Sorry. We do not support this operating system?
  23. I have suspected problems with the HDD since I started with this but just trying to see what happens
  24. BTW, right now it looks like it's accepting a fresh install of win8, will let you know.
