  1. I had figured the same thing which you wrote in your OP, was just wondering how other companies are able to do so but thanks for confirming!
  2. So I am wondering how many companies advertise to do remotely?
  3. Hey pete, if you're here, I am trying to create a step by step tutorial or flow chart for "remote" virus removal, can you help please?
  4. Yes guys, that is the same report, all the regulars here know I post for help on a couple or few forums as I never know where the help will come from but Pete has always been my go-to guy for malware issues for a while now so as long as he's around and has the time I always go his way first, no insult meant to any other helpers on any other forum.
  5. Thanks Pete, I am waiting for the person to get back to me, when she does I will post back here.
  6. Hey Pete, someone wants me to remotely fix their pc to get rid of ZLH.EXE prompt stating: The message "ZLH.EXE cannot be found." keeps popping up every hour or so, and when I close it, another error message appears. I can close them both, and my pc works fine after that, but its pretty annoying I found this tutorial here: http://www.fixerrorkit.com/fix-error/fix-ZLH.EXE-error.html I am wondering if it's safe to run the pcfixkit mentioned in that article please?
  7. Windows 7 does that natively, whenever I hover over any folder I see the size, this works only when it's a smaller size.
  8. Thanks but If I have to use a 3rd party software then I am thinking might just be easier to use the folder properties.
  9. I know a guy who has this setup somehow, waiting on him to advise.
  10. Anyone know how to have a folder's size displayed next to the folder's name in explorer please?
  11. Thanks for the info but I am not sure any disk would have helped in this situation since I had tried Hitman Pro on USB and Parted Magic on CD, simply put no external media was booting which was why my only option was to get into Advanced menu.
  12. It's ok guys, I got help on another forum, this is what I used to get into Advanced options, just wanted to share with you guys here if you were not aware of it: Sometimes you can force Windows into the Advanced Options mode by doing the following. When Windows 8 shuts down it does not really shut down like WIndows 7. It is more of a hybrid shutdown. Getting into Advanced Options should let you undo the restore point. See link above. Hold the Power Button for 5 seconds or until the computer completely shuts off. Press the Power Button to turn the computer on. As soon as you see the rotating loading circle, press and hold the Power Button until the computer shuts off. Repeat this process 2 or 3 times until you see the Preparing Automatic Repair screen.
  13. This unit got the Mandiant USA Security virus and tried running a system restore which worked but the owner has forgotten the old password and now I need to undo the system restore to be able to get back into windows to try something eles. Even before running the system restore, I couldn't get into any options at startup by pressing f8 or f11, any ideas please?
  14. I left the cmos out for 7 minutes or so, when I restarted everything was the same, I restarted a couple of times after that then it started recognizing the disk.
  15. Yeah, I did so and vista is installed and everything works to perfection "in windows". I can get into the BIOS but it takes a lot of tapping for it to happen, no amount of tapping of F12 will get to the boot menu, this tells me something is still not right but what do you guys think?
  16. Hey Rich, I honestly don't know what happened but now all of a sudden it looks like it's working again, I am loading Vista on the drive right now. Getting back to the SATA 0 issue, does it make that much of a difference if the drive is connected to SATA 0 port compared to where it is right now on SATA1?
  17. I didn't bother to try all of those things rich because this is a banged up pc and I have the same identical pc and this one does not start up like mine and the owner agrees it's time she gets a new one. I did remove the cmos battery, no change.
  18. Whenever I try to get into a bios I always start tapping at the logo screen when it shows the bios and boot menu options. Tapping the delete key does not make a difference. I am guessing this cannot be a HDD issue, right?
  19. Just installed another Sata HDD, can't get into the BIOS using F2 nor boot menu pressing F12. When I power on, after the logo screen I am seeing: No boot device available SATA O: None SATA 1: Installed SATA 2: None SATA 3: None Help please?
  20. I just contaced Acer, they said the reason why it's asking for the product key is because I am using the wrong version, what I need is win8.1 Standard 64bit.
  21. I swapped HDD's but it is asking me for product key using my win8 Standard disk, far as I know, all win8 key is embedded in the BIOS?
  22. This unit is not booting either off the HDD or the DVD drive [trying Puppy or Knoppix], I can only get into the BIOS, F12 doesn't show any boot options at all, the boot options are only showing in the BIOS, anything I can try please?
  23. Same here, I have worked on gateways before, 123 process, remove the caddy screws, lift the middle plastic insert and pull the drive out of the sata port. No mistake or other screws anywhere and I had initially tried placing a flat screw driver between the drive and the sata port and gently inching it forward before posting here but this thing is stuck and I don't wish to do any damage. I already told the owner the deal.
