  1. Yes but those should be the caddy screws? I am sure those screws are not part of the HDD removal process.
  2. Hey guys, very first time I am coming across this issue, all screws removed from this unit but pulling on the middle plastic insert does not slide the HDD off it's connection? It's almost as if the HDD is glued to the casing as I can't lift off the back it either.
  3. So to confirm, this mismatching may have caused this problem?
  4. This pc which came with a beeping noise immediately suggested ram issues to me so first thing I did was to reseat the 2 modules one at a time then tested with one of mine, strange thing though, one of the ram sticks was pc3200 and the other was pc2700, I am sure this machine did not come from Compaq this way so whoever did the ram work on this had to have known they were using mismatched sticks, is this ever wise to do?
  5. Hey guys, UI need to order 4gb ram for a Compaq sr1810nx desktop pc. I ran the Crucial scanner which shows: 1GB DDR PC32OO Unbuffered NON-ECC 2.6V 128Meg x 64 CT536750 Can anyone tell me please if this is the same ram? http://www.amazon.com/Crucial-Technology-103486-400Mhz-PC3200/dp/B0006TTDEO/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1422048025&sr=8-7&keywords=pc3200u+memory
  6. Only very ask but most people who come to me already have "Optimizer Pro" on their machines.
  7. Oh I never had any intentions to use that myself Cindy, you confirmed my thoughts on it, that it is something no pc user should ever use, thanks!

  9. Hello, I can use some help with a few networking questions please. I have verizon FIOS, there a is huge box on the wall [i am guessing that is my "modem"?] and a router is connected to that big box. I had thought the Default Gateway is the Modem's address but now I am thinking the Default gateway's address is the router's ip address? If this is correct then does this mean the modem will have an ip address of it's own? if yes, how do I ping the modem to find it's ip address please?
  10. YES, that's my opinion too, that's why as mentioned these young guys who have their Bsc in Computer science degree who work for the main repair stores, a lot of them can't even do certain repairs any better than I can and you guys here definitely have an edge over them. I know this because of what customers tell me who bring their pc's to me to fix after trying those stores, there are just many things involved in pc repair which you won't find any book, that is a fact.
  11. Hey guys, I just wanted to say THANK YOU to everyone here who have helped me last year, you guys will never know how much I appreciate your patience and help, may God bless everyone of you here and your loved ones and I wish absolute good health, happiness, success and prosperity to you all, again, THANK YOU!
  12. My take on this guys is before starting on the tech journey, I first put in the time and effort to learn the theory part of it by studying the A+ course from cover to cover and did the same with web design and development, I just never bothered to take the exams to get the certifications although I do see the advantages of having certifications. Thing is, it is my opinion that no amount of certifications can match experience and efficiency, how else would you explain people who come to me after having taken their machines to Staples, Best Buy and GeekSquad e.t.c only to spend a few hundred dollars and not get their machines properly fixed. I have solved many pc problems in those situations from the help here and on the net. The way I see it, being a good tech means being experienced and efficient above everything else, as an example, I spend a few hours tops trying everything I know on a problem I haven't encountered before and if that doesn't solve it I immediately go to google first then when that doesn't work I go to the forums and I post the same questions on different forums hoping to get the help from someone or somewhere as quickly as possible. Now does that make me a bad tech because I can't solve the problem off of my own knowledge and experience? If you as a Tech were the average customer, who would you take your machine to, the certified tech who would spend a week trying to fix a problem on his own or would you take it to an apprentice like myself who will find a way to get you machine repaired in a day or two? There is a reason why Dr. House is my favorite tech show because that is who I am and what I believe in, you are presented with a problem you can't solve on your own first then you go seek help from whatever sources or from whoever can help you find that solution, I'd like to think that is why a lot of people who come to me show me their appreciation because I will tell anyone "I don't know everything but I will find a way to solve your problem, that you can count on!"
  13. Just curious, what do you mean by "proper accreditation" please?
  14. Yeah Rich, I know the "Governing body" idea is a stretch, I only mentioned that because I hate seeing techs underbidding each other and going way too low in their pricing in order to get a job. Yes, I believe that that each tech has their own worth and their pricing should reflect their worth but in "my' case Rich, remember I am not a seasoned repair tech as you guys which is why I come here for help so it would be unfair for me to charge a customer as much as you would for example so I am not in the exact same boat as you guys here, I am learning and still have a lot to learn. Also, I might point out that since my expertise is music systems hook up and troubleshooting, as mentioned in my earlier post "I concentrate more on music setup and troubleshooting, I make more income that way", for that service I know very well what I am worth and charge $75 an hour or I would do some jobs on a project basis, that's when I really make a bundle so it's just the pc repair business where I bend a little for the reasons mentioned.
  15. It also has to do with economics I think, cost of living, as around here a lot of people have computers but they are in such a terrible financial state that they prefer not to fix and do without and others seek the cheapest tech as they are not in a financial position to look for quality repairs or techs with a good reputation. On the other side of the coin you have techs who are not getting jobs so they look to see what the cheapest service is and underbid that price. My opinion is to level the playing field for all techs, there should be some governing body of law which should set a standard price for all services and let the customer decide which tech they will go with but then to to make that possible, democracy would need to go out the window right?
  16. That's the most I will do, replace HDD, RAM and Keyboard and that depends on the model. As for me being too much of a bargain, from talking to techs everywhere, it largely depends on your location, one guy I know in Canada is the only tech in a town of 10k people so he rakes in the money. Here in the heart of NY, there might be one tech or at least one person pc savvy on every block. You have guys here replacing screens and doing mobo work for an average price of $50 and reloading OS for only $30. I charge $50 for reloading an OS or Virus work and $40 for software repairs to make it a little worthwhile and I only get a few jobs per month, if I were to charge anything higher than that then I get NO jobs. That is why I concentrate more on music setup and troubleshooting, I make more income that way.
  17. Well, my excuse for not taking laptops apart anymore is because some parts are way too finicky and sometimes you got to operate like a brain surgeon with extreme concentration so as to prevent damaging any hardware, not to mention the time and efforts involved and all this for what, to make maybe $75 at the most? Not for me.
  18. Yeah the fan is running and I have sprayed some compressed air into it but I don't scrap laptops anymore, I refer those jobs to my friend who has a pc shop close by. Also it is the HDD causing the browser issues, works fine with mine so now that mystery is solved.
  19. Well, I ran the onboard HDD and memory diagnostics but before they would complete the unit powered off with the underneath part by the fan area super hot?
  20. Yes, that's the problem, wireless was working fine before the reinstall. Also, doesn't explain about the problems with the browsers
  21. BTW, This is all info I am seeing Service tag G60-117US S/N 2CE84147JX P/N FT471UA#ABA
  22. I did the Recovery but becuase of all the browser issues, I decided to to do a reinstall from disk the did the many windows updates but different problems now, the Atheros and Broadcom wireless drivers found on the site here: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?os=2093&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&sw_lang=&product=3807267#N901 I tried installing both dirvers, the broadcom did not install, the Atheros shows as installed in the DM but windows cannot find any wireless networks, only the wired net connection works. When i press the wireless button at the top of the keyboard it turns blue only for a second then goes back to orange color. Only Chrome shows the youtube video as normal but not IE and FF, something's overheating on this unit as it gets very hot even though it does not shut down but I don't see that any hardware malfunction would cause the browser and now wireless issues? Any ideas please?
