  1. When I move to the back later today I am going to get my laptop out and see if the same is true there as well as that also has 8.1 Windows.
  2. I am so glad you said that Dougie as you caught me on my Windows 7 desktop and it doesn't happen here either. Whatever I am seeing with the Google Ads on all searches is happening only on my Windows 8.1 desktop and I never noticed that before. You know I always felt there was something about Windows 8 that by default let in all kinds of advertising and now I know it. I could not search on any browser on that All-in-One without coming up with the ads on the right side of the page and the first two listings marked as ads.
  3. Bob can you explain what you are doing there.
  4. I know you know that Windows 7 works fine with touch screens right? No reason to torture him with Windows 8. My HP "Touch Smart" Laptop had Windows 7 on it (not made by HP BTW). The ThinkPad is to the IBM standard and Lenovo has maintained it. They always were considered by most to be the best laptops made, and frequent flyers can even tell you that when the airplane hit an air pocket and dropped substantially, the only laptops that kept running on the airplane without shutting down were the ThinkPads. Buy what you, like but this quality has no competition.
  5. Bob it is a great program and I had been using it for about 13 years and basically sent everyone to it, but there is an issue you will see and that is when you search for something if you use Google for searches as most of us do where about 1/2 those searches will come to a whited out page with the words "Ad Muncher" on the top left and that is what made me uninstall it 2 years ago. Since that time it became "Open Source" and one of the reasons I believed this happened was their inability to solve that issue and the issue is still there. That is the reason I changed the Search Bar to "DuckDuckGo" which is pretty decent though not as good as Google but offers no ads. I am just letting you know when you first strike the issue you will be baffled if I did not say this! You can right click the "cow" and choose "disable filtering" to get past it but it becomes super annoying and eventually you will leave it off if you search a lot. That is 50% of the reason I am suggesting Pale Moon as "DuckDuckGo" is the default Search Engine and it is a "tamed" Mozilla browser without the issues of FF. I also believe that Ad Muncher is a major weapon in the prevention of Malware BTW!
  6. N3 I finally realized I had to go into "Tools", "Options", "Applications" and then make sure all "Adobe Document Types" Actions are set to "Adobe Reader" and then pdfs are a piece of cake. I was 75% home with an addon called "pdf viewer" but that did not handle embedded pdfs such as checks in banking software but this fixed it! I have Adobe Acrobat installed which contains Adobe Reader and you would have thought as I did that handled all pdfs as well but it didn't and this small change fixed the whole problem possibly because I have Adobe Acrobat 9.0 installed which is really not the current Adobe Reader version. Now I am quite happy with Pale Moon as it is so much more stable than Firefox and I never had any other issues, but to have to leave Pale Moon before and open Chrome or IE to read a check in a bank statement drove me straight up a wall, otherwise I never would have left. I also didn't like that you don't see "Downloads" without opening "Tools", "Downloads" but Bob reminded me of the toolbar addon and that solved that issue.
  7. Bob have you ever tried Pale Moon? It is Firefox but without the issues. It is a Mozilla browser that takes all the Firefox addons.
  8. Exactly Cindy. Memory not replaceable by user means more than you cannot upgrade the memory. If memory is stamped into the motherboard, then if there is a problem with it after 1 year you wind up replacing the motherboard and I would never buy into that situation with all the motherboard issues in laptops as it is now. The only laptops I see with a good track from Toshiba are the "AMD Vision" series. Those you cannot kill. I would never buy an Intel Toshiba system. But not the ones with stamped processors either as those I would also never buy. Stamping anything into the motherboard only works for the manufacturer. BTW Cindy I have been selling Lenovo Thinkpads new and refurbished for years and years and only ever had 2 bad ones that were refurbished. But the best that have never had an issue though I didn't sell that many were MSI laptops.
  9. Good thought Dougie I have been going to the main site and in this rare instance, it makes more sense to go to Major Geeks.
  10. True I never removed Adblock Plus and was going to when I installed Ad Muncher on both desktops but then didn't see a reason to.
  11. My thoughts exactly I was hoping you use a lighter red but I do really like the dark red...did not expect to.
  12. Price Dougie, price. 98 % of all laptops are onboard video no issue but paying $1600 for a laptop with onboard video, not I! My real issue is the memory though the video was an after thought.
  13. Have you all lost your minds? "(Memory is not user replaceable)" You do know what that means right? And that you cannot replace it is only a small part of the problem that creates....OMG $1500 for a laptop with memory built into the motherboard? Toshiba at one time was top of the hill for laptops and the best you could buy but that ended in around 2005 with their race to the bottom of the barrel with frequency of repair rivaling my personal favorite bottom feeder, "E-Machine". I also have to marvel at up to $1700 laptops with onboard video?
  14. Sorry this thing to me is a classic looking for trouble sort of like updating all drivers immediately from the past regardless if any issues....it has never been demonstrated to me that any of these utilities has ever solved any issues anyway. I bet you are a big Secunia user too? :ouch:
  15. The fact that Wise Uninstaller works as well with 64 but systems which Revo FREE does not has been earth shattering for me and I never properly thanked you for that one Dougie, I use it almost every day now. You need to be so careful with that download site though as there is a serious amount of crap ready and waiting there for you!
  16. If you follow the links DR is down and they now go directly to Microsoft now.
  17. I like the EXTS Base but what is the UI-X logo can you put the regular logo on this?
  18. Damn it I like the new red a lot! Now I don't know what I want.
  19. Just now that I am finally using the blue Bob and liking it! Thanks alot. :ouch:
  20. Well how about this, Microsoft announced the program we all disable can now remove Superfish Malware: http://www.techsupportforum.com/forums/f90/windows-defender-now-removes-superfish-malware-if-you-re-lucky-962969.html
  21. Just did that and I still see the ads. None with DuckDuckGo
  22. I have Ad Muncher on here now and I saw all of them too.
  23. I see it now thanks Bob.
