  1. You can shrink the drive and then use the free space you create to load an OS. That's if the drive has enough free space to start with. Have you tried to use a Windows 7 disk to do a recovery? Maybe that will work. You could also use a Linux live cd to boot an OS and see if you can access the files that way. If you can then you can copy them to another drive. You could also have a permissions problem with the drive in your computer. Try right clicking on the drive, select properties > security. The click advanced and remove all permissions. After you do that duplicate the procedure and it will restore default permissions. If you still can't access it then put the drive in a freezer overnight. Put it back in the computer and try to access the files again. You could actually put it back in the computer and try to boot from it. Freezing a dying or dead drive will usually give you enough time to gather the files. Make sure to put the drive in a sealed baggy before freezing.
  2. Sorry about the post going to moderation. The spam filters got a little over zealous. They hiccup from time to time.
  3. I don't have it. I got that update and couple other since. I'm not seeing it installed anywhere.
  4. I wonder which build of Windows 10 it will show up in. I'm real interested in getting it to see how it is. Once it is added to the build I might go with Windows 10 as my main OS.
  5. Yes you probably were. I had it off in one spot and not in another. That still doesn't fix N3's problem with his redirected links. I tested the links from my last email in IE, Firefox and Opera. They all redirected instantly. There must be a problem with the way his email client handles redirects.
  6. I thought I fixed that issue. You're problem is the redirect link that our new mail service adds to track click throughs and bounced emails. I removed that feature last time you had problems so in the new emails there should be only a link to the content with out the tracking URL from Mandril our mail service provider. I will double check to make sure it's off.
  7. Search works wonders. http://freepchelp.forum/t/200230/
  8. They have been contacted. Most of them have moved on from online forums because of jobs, family or other responsibilities. The site was offline dead for almost 5 years. In that time people changed. They might no longer be interested in helping on tech sites due to the reason above. Since this site is basically an old site that has restarted we have to bring in new members and not depend on the old. Most of them are gone and will never be back. The users that have requested to be removed have already been removed. The users who have invalid emails will be removed soon. If you visit other sites add a signature linking back here. If you know of other people that would benefit from being a member here then ask them to join. I actively promote this site on every site I am a member of. I also do other things to make sure we are found through the search engines.
  9. Posting guidelines updated to add rule number 18 covering signatures. I had forgot to add them originally and had referenced them in another rule.
  10. I downloaded Windows 8 codecs from Major Geeks because that is the site they use for downloads. I got a clean download. I think Major Geeks is good.
  11. Download.com used to be my go to site for downloads. I haven't used it for years because of the PUPS. I still use download.com. I use it to find the software I want then I follow the link to the creators site to download.
  12. I get these in spurts. I'll go weeks even months with none then I'll get them non-stop for a week or 2.
  13. Whoa. I seem to remember MacAffee having this problem years ago. Something with the Chernobyl virus scanning algorithm flagged some Windows exe's.
  14. Yes I do. The sock monster in the wash machine keeps stealing a few every time I wash. I put in 5 pairs and 4 and a half come out. I let my kids get me socks for Christmas every year. When they ask what I want I always say socks. Keeps me supplied for the year. I don't know what brand they buy, but, they do last the year.
  15. Howdy and welcome. Also good to meet you.
  16. I have a staff meeting once a month with my team. Since we are scattered when in season video conference is the way to go.
  17. As the article says they are the oldest inhabitants or our planet. That is one huge lobster although without the claws not as tasty I bet.
  18. Social Security system like any government system is a mess. Understaffed and incompetence are the norm for all government jobs and social security is probably the worst.
  19. Google is the future of everything. At least it seems that way. Once they branch out to more markets the other ISP will have to try to match the offers. It can only be good for everyone when that happens.
  20. Welcome to the site. Glad you found us.
  21. Howdy and welcome. It takes a couple hours to get promoted after you reach 10 posts.
  22. That's interesting. I passed the test. https://freakattack.com/clienttest.html
  23. Updates first after clean install. Windows Firewall should be installed and already turned on as will Windows Defender. Then install the virus/malware scanner of you choice. I myself only use Windows Defender and Malwarebytes. Been keeping me protected for a few years like that.
