I know how to, but it is all down to personal choice. There has to be
something in the constitution about that, yes? It probably comes under the
general heading of 'rights'.

Do you have 7.10 installed now?

Wonder if that's because they'd have to have 1,600 computers - as display
models - in their stores vs. the three that they have in the on-line
fullfillment center?

But your delimiter nukes all but your post when people use news readers
that aren't from Redmond.

You are free to post upside down for all I care. It's your image that's
presented on Usenet as not knowing how to post properly, not mine.

Good luck trying to run that bloatware on this ITX mobo.

Re: Walmart offers for a wimpy $39.00

Would you like some help in downloading the 7.10 ISO and creating an
installation CD? You only have to ask.

You are missing out on Compiz-Fusion and all of the exciting stuff.

I know how to do that. Download ISO, insert blank CD in my burner, open
Nero and burn the image. Done.

As I have stated before, I always wait for the CDs so that any post
release bugs are worked out before I install it. I also am tied up
replacing a dorked motherboard on one of my machines, the one I want to
install Gutsy on so even if the CDs came in the mail today, I wouldn't
be installing it today.

Never fear, however, when I do install it, all of you will get a full
report -)

Re: Walmart offers for a wimpy $39.00

We will have downloaded 8.04 by the time your full report appears.

Waiting for a post release bug fixed CD? Are the producing a special version
just for you?

A 'dorked' motherboard which just happens to be the target Gutsy machine?
That would take maybe an hour to replace.

Not using your XP/Ubuntu dual boot machine? The one where you do your real
work?

Presumably busy when asked by an OP for help with installing 7.10? Strange
how you are always busy if anybody here needs Ubuntu help. Is this what you
tell your local converts too?

Care to put some money on that, say 2000 euros?

No. CDs arrive. I install Ubuntu. I wait. A little orange star appears
in the top right hand corner of the screen to inform me of updates. I
click on it and then click on Install. Done.

The board I need is on the way. I don't have it yet. Boards for Athlon
XP 3000+s are not exactly common any more.

I'm on holiday now. No real work to do at the moment. My kid is doing
real University work with that machine.

M.. Is that how much it will cost to build a decent 'Gutsy'. My Vista box
cost me $700.

I'm always honest.
That is why I use windows and unix.. whichever is best for the application.
After all an OS is there to run applications not for users to look at and
think ooh isn't that pretty.

Do you notice the screen shot that warns you which partition tables are
going to be changed and which partitions are going to be formatted.
That's the one that is identical if you accidently select use whole disk.
Really useful screen that.. not only cryptic but useless.

Shame that that guide you recommended above doesn't bother to mention
backups then.

This is a Vista group so they probably have vista.
Even if they are new to vista what you suggest adds another learning curve.

Actually Compiz Fusion looks amateurish and is just eye candy.

I didn't say I can't install Ubuntu.
I have had it running fine thanks.
I said Ubuntu is cr@p because it won't install on my vaio.
Its not exactly a state of the art, no drivers available yet, machine.
Other versions of linux and xp run on it but not Ubuntu.
I pity any newbie who gets anything like as many problems as I have had with
Ubuntu on the vaio.
It just evidences that Ubuntu is not going anywhere yet.
Its a shame its a celeron as I might have put OS x on it.

Due to your Wintard top posting, my newsreader won't let me quote you to
be able to respond and I'm not going to take the time to copy and paste
your response.

When you learn how to post properly on Usenet, I'll be happy to reply. I
believe even Windows Jail can be configured to bottom post your
signature and delimiter.
