Actually, Linspire was introduced in 2001.
http://www.linspire.com/products_linspire_whatis.php

Lindows, a version of Linux that could run Windows
apps natively, was introduced in 2001, around the same time
as XP. Walmart started selling computers with Lindows
in 2002. I think the starting price was $199 w/o monitor.

No problem. In computer years, it's ancient history. I
was running a P3 800MHz back then. I don't know
the final story on Lindows, but MS did sue them on
the similar sounding name. If you go to lindows.com
you end up at the Linspire site.

For the record, walmart has never before offered Linux computers in their
brick and mortar stores - only online.

Or, for only $100 more you can get it with vista.

I sure wish tax write-offs were a simplistic as you infer. Truth is, in
order to have any tax write-offs you must first spend the money. In
order to spend money, you must first earn it.
So in effect, you earn your tax write-offs.
Got it?

Yes of course, was just referring back to the now famous "Company"
recently discussed by so many, not that it's really anyone else's
business, but hey, fame at last. :)

You just got caught in another screw-up. A business expense IS a tax
write-off. A company does not need to "earn money" in order to deduct
the expense. In fact if your business expenses exceed your business
income you may carry a portion of your losses forward to the next
year. Anyone that REALLY owns a business knows that since most new
businesses lose money the first year or two. Again you offer more
proof you don't run a business then any proof you do. You're just a
bullshit artist and a poor one at that.

Suggesting Ubuntu is not leading anyone astray when you consider the

Advantages like not being able to run windows programs they may already be
using?
Advantages like having to learn how to do an OS install that is at best iffy
on Ubuntu.
Advantages like losing all your pictures and documents if you are not
careful and not being able to get them back using Ubuntu if you have used a
windows backup program or not at all if you haven't backed them up properly.
Advantages like having to learn a whole new way of doing things.
Advantages like losing the ability to put windows back on the machine when
Ubuntu deletes the recovery partition needed to reinstall windows.
There is a huge list of "advantages" to Ubuntu that you never tell the
unsuspecting victims of your advice.

Most people won't have this problem. Those who do should dual boot.

There are plenty of web sites with screen shots showing you exactly how
to install Ubuntu. I've never had a problem installing Ubuntu on a dual
boot with Windows.

A simple Google search came up with a page dedicated to a dual install
of Vista and Ubuntu:

Back up is a computer user's best friend no matter what OS they use.

And going from XP to Vista has no learning curve?

If one can follow simple instructions during the install, nothing is
deleted from Windows. Of course, if one is *switching* from Windows to
Ubuntu, one would want to wipe out Windows anyway.

Yeah, like no WGA, no WPA, not nearly as virus and malware prone as
Windows, no "one license per computer" crap like you get with Windows
and Compiz Fusion makes Aero look like an amateur wrote it.

I am. BTW, Mike, when are you going to learn how to post on Usenet
properly and stop top posting?
