Java and Flash update automatically, don't use the others, so they don't
need updated. All Windows software updates automatically.

Um, no they don't and you have to remove old Java installations which
isn't done automatically either. In both cases, you have to open them
for them to update. With Ubuntu, you don't need to open *anything* for
the repository to tell you you have updates.

Only if you open the programs. See above.

Fact: Windows is more prone to exploits than Linux.

Fact: No Linux boxes form a part of herd bots. Millions of Windows boxes
do and that's why we get so much spam.

Nope, it's updating just fine and the old version is not there, try
again.

Nope, Office programs get updates as they are ready, maybe you just
don't have your machines configured properly. I see there our machines
that have Update function set to download but not install (our choice)
have Office, Windows, and other updates ready when we check). All of the
workstations update all Windows, Office, Java, and Adobe apps without
the user doing anything other than using the computer.

Guess it just proves you don't have a clue about Windows Update and
Microsoft Update services.

Why do you waste your time with that clueless nincompoop?

And I totally agree with you, everything is also updated automatically
on my Windows Vista, including all the drivers and the things that you
already mentioned.

Java is not. Flash is not. Adobe Reader is not. Firefox is not.
Thunderbird is not, etc., etc., etc. If you get your hardware drivers
from Windows or Microsoft Updates, you're asking for trouble. You should
go to the hardware manufacturer's web site for those updates that are
NOT automatic.

Those products, not included with the OS, are updated by their own
use/connection by default. You have to tell them NOT to update to stop
their getting automatic updates. I've not had to manually update any of
those products on any computer under our control, they all download and
install with a single click.

The MS updates install on their own, no action needed.

And with few exceptions, even the hardware updates work. The same is
true for Linux, I've had kernel updates render Linux unbootable, same
for Windows updates.

Now, keep spreading your BS, you seem to have a LOT of it and like to
spew it, showing that you are just here to try and show your ANT-MS side
and that you don't really understand or use Windows.

Still clueless - all of the programs you've mentioned provide automatic
updates and downloads unless you disable that function.

Um, if you don't open them, they won't tell you squat. With Ubuntu, you
don't need to open them to be informed that there is an update. Get it yet?

If you plan to accept all the updates, true. I, for one, don't want
WGA/N, WMP 11 or IE7 on my computers.

False (again). I just opened Spybot and no notification. I had to
*check* for updates and there were some. Same for Ad Aware. Same for
Spywareblaster or Spywareguard. Same for Java. Same for Adobe Reader.
Same for Flash. Same for *most* programs. The hardware manufacturer's
*never* tell you if there's an update for your video card, BIOS, audio
card, etc.

In my opinion your post is off topic and was crafted to cause a controversy.
This sure seems like trolling to me. The best trolls use the truth as a
basis for their posts. They are still trolls and more interested in
generating controversy than actually helping anyone.

If you notice, I didn't say anything about SpyBot, or spywareblaster or
spywareguard - they are not needed and don't get used on my systems.

As for Java it loads an updater unless you disable it - so, it will
check for updates - yours must be very old and exploitable if you don't
have the versions that auto-update.

As for Adobe, flash, and most other programs, UNLESS YOU DISABLE THE
UPDATE CHECK FUNCTION, they will check for updates on their own, no
manual click needed. Now, you might be running a very old version that
doesn't update or check, but that means you're not current and that you
still don't know what you're talking about.

As for hardware/BIOS/Audio - seems strange that you bring that up, they
also don't tell you there are updates for Linux, the community has to
make them available for inclusion in your "automatic" update that you
claim is automatic.
