Epson works just fine with Ubuntu. It's Canon's fault (and Lexmark's for
that matter) that they don't support Ubuntu. As more people switch to
Ubuntu, you will see more support from the likes of Canon and Lexmark.

As if what? You don't understand? Example: we use Epson's C88 & C88+ as
the office print mule's. Vista automatically recognizes them and
installs the drivers without using the CD's. You're out of touch. Try
and keep up.

You have proved nothing except that you're a low life who can only post
lies, insults, profanity, weird sexual fantasies and bluster and you
prove it very well with your every disgusting post.

Man, you're dumb. As I have told you now some three or four times, there
is no need for an URL. Plug in the Epson, Ubuntu recognizes it, installs
the drivers and you're set to go.

The man who has an Epson would be surprised because he's been using it
to print for over a year now.

I didn't get them from an URL so I'm afraid I can't help you. No need to
download drivers or insert a CD. Ubuntu does it automagically like it
does so many things. Live with it and get the fuçk over it.

Yes, it's very relevant as this discussion is in the PUBLIC Area and not
limited to Alias's owned hardware little world. You made a claim, it's
not founded in the real world, only in your small example based on the
hardware YOU have.

I've shown that most big box stores don't carry printers that are
supported under Ubuntu and that makes it a significant problem for most
people that would switch from Windows to Ubuntu.

Scanning, Image enhancement options, etc... It's not about "Your HP"
it's about printers in general - and that's what this thread is about,
it's not limited to your personal experience as being how the public
will also experience Ubuntu printer compatibility on their printer.

Not true - in fact, there is nothing to installing many printers on
Windows - jut connect the USB cable and it's done, you might have to
click next a couple times.

And your comment, again, is limited to one HP printer. I happen to have
hundreds of printers and dozens of different color laser printers and
dozens of copier/scanner/printer devices, and few are supported under
Ubuntu - I've checked the list. If you were to check what is available
at BestBuy or CircuitCity and then check the compatability list for
printers under Ubuntu you would know that Ubuntu is NOT as easy to get
printers working as Windows is.

This thread didn't seem to be limited to one person's hardware for the
case in point, it was open ended, based on the subject, as to any
printer, any vendor....

I'm sure that if we based our selections only on printers that were
fully supported, we could both find specific printers that installed
wihtout any effort by the users.

What matters is the experience that MOST people will have when they make
the switch from Windows to Linux, and most proeple will have problems
with printers and multi-function devices.

You didn't see the thread that this one referred to, did you? I
specifically was referring to Epson and HP printers and scanners.

Not if they have an Epson or HP, they don't. Course, the last Ubuntu you
installed and tested was?
