Well, Frank the Wank, has deserted that thread when I proved that
installing a printer and/or scanner on Ubuntu is MUCH easier than
Windows of any flavor. Interesting how when Frank the Wank is refuted,
he goes and hides in a corner, hoping no one will notice.

HAHAAHAHAHAHA!

What are you talking about you stupid sheep-fukkin POS moron? I ask you
to provide URL's for the linux drivers for Canon & Epson printers &
scanners.

And I told you there is no need. You install Ubuntu and plug your
printer and scanner in the USB ports and that's it! Open ABI Word or OO
Word processing and print away. You open XSane and it automagically
searches for your scanner and you're ready to scan. No need for your
printer or scanner's CD or drivers from any web site. Too complicated
for you, wank?

hehehe...take a look over at your open sores ng and see the problems
with printers...hahaha...LOL!
Canon and Epson offer no drivers. Even using cup you have limited
printing options.
Grow up sheep-fukk and just admit the truth...you broke and forced to
use a worthless POS toy os...LOL!

In which version of Ubuntu? The plug and play I refer to only came out
with Gutsy. Prior to that, some printers were a pain in the ass to install.

I never said Canon offers drivers. My experience is with Epson and HP,
both of which worked right out of the box with no need for a CD or a
need to go get the drivers off a web site. Lexmark doesn't work with
Ubuntu either. Like Vista, you need to do some research on devices. I
installed my HP All in One in less than three minutes. I plugged it in
the USB port and Ubuntu declared I had a printer and automagically
configured it. I opened XSane and it automagically configured the
scanner. Windows can't do that. Game, set, match and Ubuntu will only
get better and Vista won't. YOU have the toy operating system, not I,
wanker.

BS, and many printers are not supported. I moved a distant family friend
to Ubuntu about 4 months ago, and only 2 printers from BestBuy and
Circuit city were supported in a LIMITED manner. Their older Epson
printer was not supported, nor was their older Cannon
fax/scanner/printer supported.

I just installed a Okidata C5500 printer in my office, took about 2
minutes, and it's printing just fine - the Ubuntu machine didn't even
see it.

You can find printers and scanners that don't work with Vista. I never
said Okidata or Canon work with Ubuntu. I did say that the Epsons and
HPs that I have installed installed out of the box and were much easier
to install on Ubuntu than Windows. HP even provides, by default, a
control panel in Ubuntu.

Utututut...hey butt-munch, we're talking about that POS toy os that a

Bullshit! I said to stop your damn lying! Epson's don't have any linux
drivers.

Good for HP. Haven't used their crap since the 90's.
You're just a real lying loser in every sense of the word!

Actually, I think the bottom line is that More printers, modern, are
supported under XP and Vista than under Ubuntu, and more printers that
people already have, from the last 4-5 years, are already supported
under XP and Vista than under Ubuntu.

Alias, the fact remains that every printer that is sold in the common
market at "Big Box" stores works with Vista right now, even the scanners
work with them. Yes, I'm sure that you could dig up some 4 year old
scanner in the warehouse at BestBuy that was returned 2 years ago, that
doesn't work with vists, but that would be unlikely.

I have installed Ubuntu many times, found that most printers that people
have don't work with Ubuntu and the ones that do work are often limited
in their special functions. It's nothing against Ubuntu, it's a good
product, but it's not anywhere near as hardware friendly as Windows or
even a MAC.

As for HP, I would never own an HP Color printer, they don't have the
quality that many others have/provide - for a BW laser printer it's a
given, HP wins, but the thread is about Ubuntu and printers/scanners,
and that is an area that Ubuntu is very lacking in.

No, it's not, you can't possibly say that with any honesty - I connect a
printer to either, both detect and install with little effort on my
part.

No, take a typical printer that people might have, Ubuntu is unlikely to
support it, and that makes it MUCH MORE DIFFICULT or impossible.

that it has with XP.

Like I said, to install a Linux friendly printer is easier than
installing the same printer on any flavor of Windows.

I'm very happy with my HP printer and scanner. It does everything I
need, be it with XP or Ubuntu.

You have to use the printer's CD to install the software and drivers.
With Ubuntu, that is not necessary.

*shrug* that, I can't say.

I know that HP, Zebra, and I wanna say Brother are all fully supported.
I've never encountered any problems with those brands nor have I heard of
any problems. Just looking at the available driver list, Epson looks
really well too but I have no personal experience with Epson.

Now Cannon is a problem. Essentially though, that's a manufacturer issue
not a Linux issue. Linux has no problem supporting Cannon if they can
either make the necessary documentation available or make drivers
available.

Manufacturers beyond that I honestly have no idea because I wouldn't even
know their names.

As far as I am concerned, I have 4-5 perfectly fine working manufacturers
to choose from. So I simply avoid the one manufacturer I know doesn't
work and call it a day. So even if XP or Vista on the bottom line support
more printers in total, the only one that matters is the one I have and
it's more than easy and simple enough to choose one that is supported
across the board.
