7. Windows schedules it weekly. If You’re Running Windows 7 or 8.x If you’re using either Windows 7, 8, or even Vista, your system is already configured to run defrag on a regular basis—generally 1 AM every Wednesday. You can check for yourself by opening up Disk Defragmenter and seeing the schedule there, as well as the last run and fragmentation levels.
8. Hi! Thank you for joining Free PC Help Forum. Take your time and look around. Welcome to Free PC Help Forum. We are growing here. You can be a part of it. Welcome aboard!! @Visionary
9. I have it set to defrag once a month. That's a default siting by W7. Should I change that and what should I change it to to?? Thanks Dougie! If You’re Running Windows 7 or 8.x If you’re using either Windows 7, 8, or even Vista, your system is already configured to run defrag on a regular basis—generally 1 AM every Wednesday. 10. Hi This is what my C drive looks like!!
11. Hi ! Been cleaning up my PC. Getting rid of some of the garbage and doing a little maintenance. I have my PC scheduled to defrag once a month. I checked and it was 3% fragmented, so I ran it. It went through 8 passes and now my free space is less than it was.:D I just don't understand computers. I know the saying "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" That's how I learn however. I'm always trying remove the crap from this old Toshiba and try to make it a little faster. I don't know what every little byte is, but I know most of them. I checked Windows and it went down from 27GB to 24GB. My free space went up from 43 GB to 47 GB after defrag. That just ain't right. The more cleaning I do, the less free space on my HD. Someone tell this old country boy what he's doing wrong. This forum is getting dull! We need to liven it up a little!! Gary! :help:
12. Hi I use MSE and Malwarebytes Premium. MSE for W7 is the same thing as Windows Defender for W8
13. What operating system??
14. Hi! Your monitor could be going bad! Maybe try up dating the driver??? What do you show in devise manager. Any yellow marks??
15. Hi! @N3 Shot in the dark! What is your screen resolution set on??
16. There's a lot of crap going on with Chrome and Flash! You can check here to see if you have the latest up date!! https://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/installation-problems-flash-player-windows.html
17. Hi ! I'm not sure If the problem I found was this problem. The PC I worked on was redirecting the user and wouldn't allow her to go on the internet. She told me the problem started right after up dating Flash. I had put MBAM on the PC before and was able to run it. It found 3 Trojans and 1200+ PUP's. After scanning with MBAM. The PC seemed OK. I had the senior check it out. I had been using IE to excess the internet. She clicked on Chrome and all Hell broke lose and I had to rescan with MBAM. I uninstalled Chrome. She said she would install Firefox latter. I haven't heard any more. I guess I should call her. The senior was pretty PC savvy and think this fake Flash was the problem. I can't be 100% sure about that
18. Hi @allheart55 (Cindy E) Yuppers that has been around for awhile now and I have seen it here at Golden Oaks. Good information Cindy! Thanks!! PS So far MBAM has taken care of it and I'm watching a couple PC's here at Golden Oaks that down loaded it!! Ran MBAM and so far no more problems!! I have put the warning out on Golden Oaks TV Channel to call me if they see this come up on their PC.
19. Hi! Running MBAR is very fast and I love to see that "Congratulations no cleanup is required" Thanks for your reply @starbuck !! Root Kits are the worst infection you can have. Not to long ago help forums wouldn't deal with them and recommended back to factory install. PS You see I study these things;). Would try the malware school, but I just don't think I could handle it for a year and then you are supposed to use that knowledge and I would rather help with other things that I have learned. Thank you for the explanation about Root Kits. I think it's about time they are added in a MBAM scan. That's just MHO!!
20. Hi! Pete! @starbuck understand the reason for running FRST and OLT. I'm not trained to read those logs. I don't have the luxury of having a Pete around to check my FRST log when working on a seniors PC. I like checking for Root Kits first. Free Malwarebytes has a Root Kit feature, but by default it is not checked. Going through like Ranbo is my only option. So far it has served me well here at Golden Oaks. I down loaded MBAM Pro free for a month yesterday on a seniors PC. While it was scanning, a pop up kept flashing in the corner about Trojan Chrome being blocked. When the scan was finished, 2Trojan Chromes and 10 Pups were found. I did not run any more scans as the PC was performing great after quarantining those! I have found that 95% of the time running MBAM is all that's needed, but I have ran other scans when I thought they were needed. If I find a ASK tool bar, I run JRT. I really like ESET on Line Scanner some times also. I need all the help I can get to keep my seniors happy. Cleaning when you have the PC in front of you is a lot different than helping someone on a help forum like Free PC Help Forum. Thank you for your reply Pete. You are appreciated! Notice scan for Root Kit is not checked on MBAM.;);) I have noticed that when running MBAM. I'm wondering why it's not a default setting???
21. Thanks Dougie! It's really surprising how many of them have cell phones. I guess there kids get them for them. I get asked quite often about cell phones. They aren't my expertise. I have a cheep one, but seldom use it. I just helped a senior get a new password for their Yahoo email yesterday by Yahoo texting or what ever you call it. It was pretty simple. Some times getting a forgotten password can be a real pain. Also cleaned his PC up. It had Trojan Chrome and a bunch of PUP's on it. Fixed his sound. Added WOT to his browser and some other things. He thinks I'm the smartest guy in the world. Boy do I have him fooled! My wife has stickies all over the place. She keeps me lined out! Good tip Dougie. Thanks!
22. I'm glad I was able to provide that image my friend! Some times these things go over my head. You are quite welcome Mate! I'm afraid I have forgotten more than I remember. I have never been able to be myself on a help forum before this one, and I'm having one Hell of a good time on EXTS being who I am. I am who I am Mate! Just a old country boy passing forward things I have learned from others, and still remember some of those things. I hope to pass them forward while I still remember! Gary!!;);)
23. Hi Mate! Some times I just don't understand, but Will give my Aussie Mate the best answer I can.
24. Hi Mate! Not sure what you're wanting Mate, but I will give it my best shot Mate. Here's my C drive and my latest back up image made with Macrium Reflect. If you need some thing different, let me know Dougie!! Gary!!
25. Just teasing about spring clean up. I clean up my PC once a month before I create a back up image of my OS ;);)
