  1. The following pics have explanations that (nearly) exceed their weirdness. The next time a friend shows you one of these, spit some knowledge and impress everybody in Starbucks. ANIMALS 1. The Alpine Ibex can climb nearly 90 degree surfaces. There's a few of them climbing the Cingino Dam in Italy, 150 feet high, not giving a shit. (They do it to evade predators and eat yummy cliff vegetation.) 2. The Interwebz occasionally explodes over this one. Don't worry, though, those aren't parasites. They're pieces of feces used to protect larvae from predators. It's poop ... protective poop. 3. Ladies and gentleman, we present Rabbit Island. A literal place off the coast of Japan. Referred to by the locals as Okunoshima, it was a poison gas testing island during World War II. The bunnies were set free after the war, and multiplied. They're known to be extremely tame and approachable. 4. In Morocco there's a type of tree that yields such delicious-tasting fruit, it causes hordes of goats to climb trees. But that's not the WTF part. The goats poop seeds which are then used to make Argan oil. Knowing this, it's a mystery as to why anyone in Morocco would have a taste for Argan oil. 5. Yes, those are walruses. Thirty-five thousand of them. Scientists snapped this pic and concluded they congregated there as a result of climate change, melting the ice and warming the waters. They say it's an unprecedented occurrence. WEATHER 6. While Urban Dictionary has a different, unflattering definition of "dirty thunderstorm," that is what indeed these are called. Scientists say rock, ash, and ice particles collide to make electrical charges. 7. Death Valley's "sailing stones" were a mystery for years. No one knew what caused them to move on their own. That was until 2014 when they concluded freezing nights caused ice to form underneath the rocks; wind would then move them inch by inch, until they gave the impression of ghostliness. 8. Day after day, year after year, lightning strikes in the same place on the Catatumbo River. As if you needed another reason to call Venezuela the freakiest place on earth, the Guinness Book inducted this location as the record-holder for most lightning strikes in one place (sometimes 200 in a minute). They say it has to do with enclosed wind circulation within the region; but it remains a highly contentious debate. Fun fact: Explorers in the 1500's used it as a natural lighthouse. 9. In 2010, a massive flood devastated Pakistan. One-fifth of the country was submerged under water. As a result, millions of spiders sought refuge in trees. Yes, those are spiders in trees. Millions of them. The photo was taken near Karachi. So don't go there. PEOPLE 10. This is a picture of a dirty beach in China. More than 362 tons of garbage. More than 480,000 people descended upon Dampish Beach Park in Shenzhen during the Dragon Boat Festival and left unimaginable heaps of trash in their wake. 11. At first glance it seems like an offer you can't refuse. We question the authenticity of such an ad, but ordering brides from overseas is quite the budding business. In places like China, female brides are in high demand due to gender imbalance, and there's even a website dedicated to it. Buy your wife today! 12. Have you ever wanted to ship a penis to someone? Cardboard, of course. Here's the motivation behind ShipADick.com: "Because shipping giants dicks to people brings us more joy than anything else in life (after handies from your mother of course)." 13. The Inuits of northern Canada don't give a shit. 14. The Decebal Hotel in Romania is 150 years old. It was closed for more than five years recently and construction workers - among visitors of all backgrounds - claim to have seen a woman in a white dress. This picture was snapped in 2008. Spooky. 15. It's true. David Geffen sold a classic Jackson Pollock in 2006 for a staggering $140 million. It became the record for the most expensive painting ever sold. 2. Over the last few weeks the subject of the free Windows 10 upgrade has been discussed a lot. It has specifically been focused on whether or not non-genuine users of older Windows operating systems should be made genuine through the free Windows 10 upgrade offer. That offer, announced by Microsoft earlier this year, will allow users of Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 to upgrade to Windows 10 at cost for the first year the new OS is available. The reason things became very muddled with this non-genuine/genuine situation is because Microsoft’s Corporate Vice President for the Operating System Group, Terry Myerson, told a reporter from Reuters during an interview at WinHec that even non-genuine users would be made legitimate during this free upgrade offer. That statement was tweaked later the same week and clarified that non-genuine users would be able to upgrade to Windows 10 but there install would still be non-genuine. So with all this talk happening we asked you in last week’s poll about how Microsoft should handle these non-genuine users of Windows. Nearly three quarters of you (73%) believe Microsoft should allow those users to become genuine through the free Windows 10 upgrade program with 57% of that group feeling that Microsoft should charge a small upgrade fee for that opportunity. There were 27% of you who responded and indicated Microsoft should not allow these non-genuine users to become legal through the upgrade. Based on your response to this survey I suspect, much like Kip Kniskern does over at WinBeta, that this discussion is not over by a long shot. Getting users legal and able to access legitimate products and services makes sense for the company and the users. 3. I may have accidentally stumbled into the purgatory of Microsoft online services. It all happened innocently enough: if you're anything like me, you probably set up your Xbox Live account many years ago. Maybe you were even a child or a teenager. And when you were forced to tie your Gamertag to an email address, you probably didn't give it a second thought. The Hotmail email address I chose that fateful day nearly a decade ago has since become a relic of another time, utterly swamped with spam emails and hindered by an embarrassing account name. It's with good reason, then, that I hoped to switch my Gamertag over to my primary Microsoft account, the email address that now ties together everything from my email and calendar to Microsoft Office and OneDrive. Microsoft account, And since Windows 8 is intimately connected to my Microsoft account, the only way I could use the Xbox app on my laptop was if I could decouple my Gamertag from my ancient email address. Little did I know that you're in for a world of hurt if you dare to pair your Xbox Live Gamertag with a different email address. Pairing your Gamertag to a new email address is a herculean task The Microsoft support article lists an incredible array of requirements and stipulations if you wish to take on this task. Firstly, there's no way to do from your computer — you'll have to dust off your old Xbox 360 (hope you didn't throw it out!) to accomplish the deed. An Xbox One will not help you. And you better hope that neither your current nor your new Microsoft accounts have any active subscriptions other than Xbox Live Gold or Xbox Music. Otherwise you're out of luck. In addition, the account you wish to transfer to can have none of the below attached to it: An Xbox Live profile A gamertag A billing account An Office 365 subscription OneDrive paid storage Any past purchases from the Windows Store Any other non-Xbox subscription Oh, and I almost forgot. Any funds tied to your Gamertag will be lost during the transfer. So I took a deep breath and dove in. I bought a bunch of Mass Effect 3 DLC to burn through the cash left on my account, and went through the process of initiating the Gamertag transfer on my old Xbox 360. After punching in passwords and waiting, a notice appeared: Error 80154013: "This Microsoft account already has an Xbox membership." Somehow, my new email address had been tied to a generic Xbox Live Gamertag, Player067106467. I kid you not. Now, this would be funny if it didn't throw a wrench into the entire operation. The error code led me to another Microsoft support article. And whoever wrote it knew that he was about to put people through some 21st century misery. The article warns: "This process requires patience." I'm pretty sure no one at Microsoft could be bothered to design a way for people to switch accounts, because the process described is truly dreadful. Since there's no way to delete a Gamertag from a Microsoft account, I first had to make an entirely new, bogus email address. I'd then have to transfer the Player067106467 Gamertag to that bogus email address — a process that first requires me to set up that blank Xbox profile on my Xbox 360. Once the blank Gamertag was removed from the email address I cared about, I could then try to transfer my real Gamertag. As you can probably guess, this required lots of patience, especially as I typed in long passwords and email addresses with that crummy Xbox 360 d-pad. After I jumped through all the hoops, a message appeared: "Sorry, we can't change your Microsoft account right now." Exasperated, I tossed in the towel. Microsoft: 1. Dante: 0.
