  1. which scanner please, you mean hp support assistant?
  2. I had tried all drivers on the hp site which I can see relates to the touchcreen which is only one driver, the 'HP TouchSmart Touch Optimizer Update' driver?
  3. Hey guys, I I reloaded Vista and I am trying to find the touchscreen driver for this machine, the touchscreen is working but I cannot click on and open anything with it. PCI\VEN_1131&DEV_7160&SUBSYS_0F551461&REV_03 I am being led to an 'Asus' drive here, can anyone tell me if that is the correct driver please? http://www.driveridentifier.com/scan/pegatron-tv7160e-capture-device/driver-detail/4896818C36E445DAA43115B9EA49805A/771820/1c170fa5481519d6909e0ac3f8d34473/106162329/PCI%5CVEN_1131%26DEV_7160%26SUBSYS_48B51043
  4. Yes, a new HDD did the trick.
  5. I think Cindy is correct on this one. I think this unit needs a new HDD, way too many different things happening trying to reload the OS. http://imgur.com/bCqKIfM Best I tell the owner to get a new drive otherwise even if I should get the OS to load and problems still occur the owner may blame me for not doing a good job.
  6. Yeah I know but how will removing the HDD tell me which OS is on it please?
  7. No this unit doesn't have a separate compartment for the HDD so I would need to open the entire bottom cover. I would prefer to reload the OS first option but trying to figure out which version of 8 is on there.
  8. Yes i have tried both tapping and holding f9 and at a few different times. Running the disk health tests on parted magic now, short test shows no errors, running extended test.
  9. Hey guys, not sure it's windows 8. At startup after the logo, it is showing the error "A disk read error occured. Press ctrl+alt+del to restart. Using Parted Magic I was able to copy the user's files, now to repair this problem. Searching the net I am seeing f9 key to enter recovery but that is not working. Since during or after the logo I am not seeing the spinning disk, anything I can do to get into system repair or recovery? If not, how would I best go about reloading the OS since I have no idea what OS in on this unit?
  10. Ohh, those are great links, thanks a million but I would like to know how you guys here are able to acquire new customers?
  11. No, I visited it but did not see the benefit of it? In my experience on linkedin some people are there only to make offers or sell something to you so I am very wary of this.
  12. Do you guys have websites? If not, how you reach 'new' customers aside from word of mouth referrals please?
  13. Either way that is why many techs in my area are forced to look into other fields of work. It's extremely hard for myself at age 53 to now be studying digital marketing but I had to do this to help my ads and website compete. Also I had given up doing web design many years ago but now looks like I will be forced to get back into it to bring in more income. Still even with marketing and web design service most people don't wish to spend what is required and even those two fields are over saturated so it's extremely difficult for anyone in the technology field here to bring in decent income, as a freelancer.
  14. Well said, I pretty much do the same, offer free help for certain things. A lot of people here are struggling so they simply don't have the funds for pc repair, here in NY cost of living is very high so sometimes they are forced to go for the cheapest repair.
  15. Most people here don't care, they just want to get there pc's working.
  16. some but not many here, they just want their pc working and will go where the lowest price is.
  17. Most people here don't care for quality repairs, their main objective is pricing that is why the under-pricing works for those techs.
  18. Yes, great idea if you are getting a decent or worthwhile price to begin with, for techs like myself who charge only 50-60 bucks here, giving 20 off won't really be feasible I think so incentives won't work for us. Also following up with customers may not sit too well with all of them around these parts. I think everything has to do with location, if you're in a smaller town where everyone is more tight knit then that should be fine but here in the heart of NY where people usually don't want to be bothered it's a different scene.
  19. So 'my' take on this is not to depend on repeat customs but how to get 'new' customers when facing techs whose pricing is so ridiculously low, that is my predicament. Any ideas how to battle the problems I am facing here anyone?
  20. When I fix someone's pc the intent is not from them to have to come back to me again so I do the best job I can, yes I have repeat customers but it is usually every one, 2 or more years. The whole point is frequency of getting new customers is not like it used to be due to these techs under-pricing each other.
  21. Unfortunately not. I charge $50 for reload and 60 for virus, the lowest ad I have comes across was for 25 but this is the lowest. Thing is here in NY especially in the heart of the city, there is at least one tech savvy person on every block who can repair their own pc and you can find multiple pc techs in every neighborhood so it's a dog eat dog world here as the customers have many techs to choose from.
  22. Here locally in NY: http://newyork.craigslist.org/brk/cps/5509305856.html Any wonder why I and other techs who provide quality work can only get one, maybe two jobs per month on average? How can we compete with this?
  23. Yes, that worked, thank you very much!
  24. No worries, if I am not mistaken, I had come across this problem before and had gotten help here but I cannot find the thread.
