  1. So this machine is upgradeable to 8gb?
  2. Thanks, max intenral storage shows 4.0TB [4X1.0TB] SATA, not understanding that, does it mean we can put 4x1TB HDD's in there? If yes, does that mean we cannot or should not put a SATA drive larger than 1tb?
  3. Hey guys, very first time I am coming across a unit like this. PowerEdge 840 Service Tag: 14CM6C1 | Express Service Code: 2439837073 I read the manual but still confused, can I load win7 on this machine? Can it work like any regular windows machine?
  4. I already advised the guy to get at a least a duo core pc with win7 if budget is an issue and don't spend a cent on this old iron horse. Main thing is I now have his data safely backed up and his HDD is clean, appreciate your help as always, till next time, my friend!
  5. I had an OTL disk from a while back, inserted it but same deal.
  6. Hey Pete, no worries at all. I am suspecting graphics issue but remember this system will not allow me to go into bios, boot options or safe mode and will not boot from anything so your instructions above will not work? I have scanned the drive attached to my pc to backup the data, using MBAM It found a lot of malware but is clean now now on 2nd run.
  7. Hey Pete or whoever's here, I am not seeing a model number of this old XP machine anywhere, only the VAIO sign on it. When you power on it is showing weird graphics on the screen as the attached image shows. The owner said he was downloading something from the net when the pc powered off then would not boot to windows so we are suspecting this is a virus situation. I tried pressing F1, F2 and F8 but it will not go to the bios or safe mode. The guy wishes to save the data but I don't want to remove the HDD to attach to another machine since I don't know what sort of virus I am dealing with, any ideas please?
  8. Only glitch I am now seeing is that the pc will restart maybe only once out of every 10 times when it's powered off so the owner is fine with that and took the pc. Main thing is it does not shut off or restart now from being on like before. Appreciate the help guys!
  9. I powered up to start working on it again and this time the windows repair completed and all looks fine, so far, I will continue testing until tomorrow to know for sure.
  10. The guy said I can take my time with this to troubleshoot so I will work on it again next week, meantime I would like to order a pci graphics card only for testing purposes, I have many here but none low profile to fit this machine. Would this be ok? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Radeon-DMS-59-PCI-e-Low-Profile-Video-Graphics-Card-256MB-/171828123086?hash=item2801c115ce:g:2YUAAOSwHjNV8423
  11. I have a USB wireless ethernet adapter here, should I go into safe mode, install that then go into regular mode to test?
  12. There aren't any issues in safe mode as mentioned. i think this is mobo related but still why no problem in safe mode?
  13. The new OS for disk 2 on the original drive does the same thing this time without myself installing any driver or opening IE. Looking at the event logs, all errors seems to be pointing to Network issues. Sorry for posing all these screenshots below but it is to confirm network or network driver issue?
  14. I installed a new OS on the spare drive, without activating the license and restarted 5 times, no issues. I then installed the chipset and restarted a few times, no issues. I then installed the network driver no issues but after opening up IE, the problem is there again so I don't know if IE had anything to do with it? Either way this should rule out HDD, correct?
  15. Yesterday I had tried "Disable Autorestart on System Failure" but that did not solve the problem.
  16. Yes, i had checked it initially and had seen errors but it did not stay on long enough for me to have a god look. I am currently trying a spare HDD, will you know in a little.
  17. I tried updating the display driver but it showed "the best driver is installed".
  18. Any chance this can be HDD issue so should I attempt to use another HDD? Or should I try ordering a pci graphics card to test since only $5? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Radeon-DMS-59-PCI-e-Low-Profile-Video-Graphics-Card-256MB-/171828123086?hash=item2801c115ce:g:2YUAAOSwHjNV8423
  19. So can I rule out software and declare this a mobo hardware issue?
  20. Well, it's working so I can't say that it's damaged, it's bent inwards,
  21. Oh sorry, I have no idea why the screenshot is showing upside down. On the screenshot it shows the graphics cannot be started in safe mode.
  22. I ran speccy in Safe mode, please see attached screenshot but I don't think anything is overheating as that was my first inkling and taking the cover off, nothing is heated up or smells. On the screenshot it shows the graphics cannot be started in safe mode.
  23. Since it's not staying on in normal mode, would I be able to run speccy in safe mode?
