  1. Hi Bill. Here are the promised numbers for the Samsung 850 Evo 500 GIG Any SSD that pulls 500mb/s both read and write is pretty good. All numbers are good with this SSD. I haven't optimized this SSD with Samsung Magicain as yet.No spare time. My pick of SSD's at the moment. You can't compare SSD's to M.2 PCIe drives. They are two different technologies. M.2 PCIe drives cost as it is cutting edge technology. They will come down in price eventually like the SSD's have done. I have a need for speed and always looking for something faster hence the M.2.:D
  2. Hi Bill. These are the numbers on the Kingston Savage Hyper X Mine is a X4 which means it takes out 4 sata ports. Most good boards have 8+ sata ports so not a problem for me. You can use the Asmedia ports if stuck. On the Gigabyte Z170X-Gaming 7 has 2 PCIe slots. If you switch to the lower slot it won't take out your sata ports but performance drops slightly. This M.2 is rated as 1400 mb/s read and 600 mb/s write and it is exceeding the advertised speeds. Very happy with this M.2.
  3. Hi Peter. If you tell us exactly what you plan to use this computer for (Games whatnot) it would greatly help us in advising what hardware you require and not be overkill for your needs.:)
  4. Will do Bill, Today my time.
  5. Of course new technology is responsible for faster SSD's. That's same with all hardware. I expect near what the manufacturer claims. The point I was making is if a manufacturer of an SSD advertises x read speeds and y write speeds then rule of thumb if you can get within 20% then your doing OK. I am not expecting more than advertised performance. When you get round 63% of advertized write speeds I was making people aware there is a world of difference in SSD's. Intel specs on this SSD sound good but in reality I have a different opinion based on my real world usage experience. http://ark.intel.com/products/75331/Intel-SSD-530-Series-240GB-2_5in-SATA-6Gbs-20nm-MLC
  6. I run all Samsung 850 evo's except I had this Intel on the shelf and thought I would use it up. Wish I hadn't now. Just went out and bought another Samsung 250 GIG. The Intel is coming out. For data I have been using WD Blue. Had a good run with them so far.
  7. I am amazed at the differences in SSD read and write speeds by brand. My Samsung 850 evo's all give over 500+ read and write speeds yet my INTEL SSD's have a lousy write speed even after optimizing with the Intel tool box. I haven't got an answer as to why the write speeds are so low with the Intel's. Thought it worth mentioning to anyone contemplating changing from Spinner to SSD. The write speed is nowhere near the advertised numbers.
  8. Thanks Tony. I know colour doesn't improve performance however I love this shade of Red.
  9. Thanks Bob. Will do.
  10. Thanks Bob. I will do some research and give it serious thought. If it is OK I will run it past you what I choose first.
  11. Hi Bob. I was thinking of experimenting with a dual processor server board. Had no experience with servers. What are your thoughts? Would there be any positives in doing so? Thanks for any input.
  12. Thanks Bob. I will post the specs shortly on this build.
  13. Thanks Cindy
  14. I used a Gigabyte Z170X Gaming 7 board,Bill Has two M.2 slots on the board.
  15. I will eventually, Cindy. I was working on one of my latest builds last night and took some photos. This build I have a M.2 PCIe hard drive with the OS on. All new territory to me. The Kingston Fury M.2 is exceeding the advertised Read and Write speeds so looking good so far. Even with a conventional PSU (non modular) and running 5 extra fans the wiring can be carefully hidden if the correct case is chosen. Here are a couple of Photos. All the extra fans are hooked up to the fan controller. The tower looks better than the photos give credit for.
  16. Just read this on another site. Gave me a laugh. AN AIRPLANE WAS ABOUT TO CRASH. THERE WERE 5 PASSENGERS ON BOARD, BUT ONLY 4 PARACHUTES. THE FIRST PASSENGER, HOLLY MADISON SAID, "I HAVE MY OWN REALITY SHOW AND I AM THE SMARTEST AND PRETTIEST WOMAN AT PLAYBOY, SO AMERICANS DON'T WANT ME TO DIE." SHE TOOK THE FIRST PACK AND JUMPED OUT OF THE PLANE. THE SECOND PASSENGER, JOHN MCCAIN, SAID, "I'M A SENATOR, AND A DECORATED WAR HERO FROM AN ELITE NAVY UNIT FROM THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA." SO HE GRABBED THE SECOND PACK AND JUMPED. THE THIRD PASSENGER, DONALD TRUMP SAID, "I AM GOING TO BE THE NEXT PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES, I AM THE SMARTEST MAN IN OUR COUNTRY, AND I WILL MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN" . SO HE GRABBED THE PACK NEXT TO HIM AND JUMPED OUT. THE FOURTH PASSENGER, BILLY GRAHAM, SAID TO THE FIFTH PASSENGER, A 10-YEAR-OLD SCHOOLGIRL, "I HAVE LIVED A FULL LIFE AND SERVED MY GOD THE BEST I COULD. I WILL SACRIFICE MY LIFE AND LET YOU HAVE THE LAST PARACHUTE. " THE LITTLE GIRL SAID, "THAT'S OKAY, MR. GRAHAM. THERE'S A PARACHUTE LEFT FOR YOU. THE SMARTEST MAN IN AMERICA TOOK MY SCHOOLBAG ."
  17. Just spent sometime re reading this thread after a long time. The amount of back slapping that went on and Rich being a master of excuses had me smiling from ear to ear. The second image on the first page looks like something out of a scary underwater movie. I would have felt too embarrassed to even post such a work of art like that.:big_ha:
  18. I lived through that era as well. You needed to be tough. Us kids all had the door knob treatment with our first teeth. There wasn't a lot of money around just after the war. I remember our bread was delivered once a week by horse and sulky, also there used to be a guy in a horse pulled wagon that used to come round twice a year selling all sorts of things needed in the house, clothes linen the lot. Remember my Mum using the huge copper pot to boil the clothes and the old glass wash board. They were hard times but we were happy as kids. I didn't get my first pair of shoes till seven years old. All children going to my school used to have bare feet. The soles of our feet were so tough running over thorns and prickles never used to bother us. My toy (singular) was an old clock to play with. If I mucked up in those days, which was all the time, LOL I got belted with a leather strap hanging behind the door. No psychology used in those days on us kids.
  19. I didn't think you had an evil streak in you, N3. Guess I misjudged you.:yikes:
  20. Welcome to 2016 Here is the summary of our civilization at the end of 2015 This is - Priceless!!! • Our Phones – Wireless • Cooking – Fireless • Cars – Keyless • Food – Fatless • Tires –Tubeless • Youth – Jobless • Leaders – Shameless • Relationships – Meaningless • Attitudes – Careless • Babies – Fatherless • Feelings – Heartless • Children – Mannerless We are - SPEECHLESS, Government is - CLUELESS, And our Politicians are - WORTHLESS! And I'm scared – Shitless!
  21. I have no sympathy when they come crying they have lost photos that can't be replaced. There are plenty of warnings to backup on the Net.
  22. Cortana can't sing well and has pretty sad Jokes.
  23. Never had the drive letter issue in previous versions and I have cloned countless times. Must be something new in this version. Should have read the knowledge base I admit.
  24. Yes Tony, I double checked that all partitions had drive letters. I didn't force a drive letter, just let Windows assign one. Yes Macrium Reflect did back up the MSR although unchecked otherwise I would have got a boot error. Looked at the clone and the system reserved partition is showing. A long time ago I got caught when a partition was missing a drive letter. Disk management then would recognize the drive, Acronis Disk Director also recognized the drive but when you clicked Start > Computer the drive wasn't showing. Took me a while to realize the drive had no drive letter. Thanks for your input, appreciated.:)
