  2. Did you assign private IP address to the LAN nic and public to WAN? I have mine set up the way you do and my map looks the same, but, smtp does work with rras configured. The only thing I could see that would cause the problem is the IP allocations.

  5. via TechCrunch via Fortune Its really important for us to understand what we can bring to the iPhone, Tom Gibbons, corporate vice president of Microsofts Specialized Devices and Applications Group, told Fortune on Monday. To the extent that Mac Office customers have functionality that they need in that environment, were actually in the process of trying to understand that now. As a side note....when did Fortune use Wordpress for their blogs? More... View All Our Microsoft Related Feeds
  6. I was wondering why all Windows Mobile phones seem to be fully functional computers when I think many people will be very happy with "basic" smartphones. What I like the most about Windows Mobile phones*is the seamless integration with Outlook (all other phones I tried in the past would not synchronize very well and would screw up my*contacts, calendar,*and so on). What I mean is a phone that does: - basic phone functions with decent quality speakers - synchronize contacts seamlessly and allows to search contact from any field (also "company") - synchronize calendar and tasks with Outlook (read only would be fine, writing calendar entries with the tiny keyboard of my HTC is very painful) - Hotmail Live, Gmail, Yahoo mail available (so will need WiFi) - A decent calculator and currency converter - Has at least a handful of languages available for T9 in SMS (if you leave in Europe you will find yourself sending messages in more than one language very often). I am not saying more functional devices are useless, but this is what I am looking for and have never been able to find. More... View All Our Microsoft Related Feeds

  9. I've been reading a lot about this and from what I understand, a user switching to another program means that the first one has to save its state and shut down. What I can't get my head around, is why this is such a big deal? It's not a desktop machine. It's a PDA ... no-one is going to be compiling code on it while waiting for a train. I have a WM6 PDA and since the whole screen is taken by each app I'm running, then I'm not really sure what multi-tasking is giving me ... except the nasty feeling that any programs hanging around in memory may not have saved data. Am I missing something? More... View All Our Microsoft Related Feeds

  13. Should be able to. Open IIS manager and select app pools. Right click the app pool and select advanced properties. Second option down is to run in 32 bit mode.

  16. Re: I have IIS on server 2008 on and running ok, what roles do i need to turn on to p You'll need to set up DNS. If you have a dynamic IP you could use a dynamic DNS service like DynDNS to forward requests to your server.

  19. Yes, you'll have it in the webroot or you could just change the webroot to the stats directory using iis manager.
  20. I've noticed that bug also although a little different. I have an external drive connected to 4 servers through a USB KVM switch. I use this drive to backup the servers. 3 servers are Windows 2003 and one is Windows 2008. Files copied from the Windows 2003 boxes are accessible to the other servers. When I copy files from Windows 2008 to the drive the files are accessible to all boxes while the KWM is set to the 2008 box. Once I switch to one of the other boxes the files disappear as if they never existed. If I switch back to the 2008 box the files reappear on all. The only work around is to move the files from 2008 to 2003 is to login with RDP and copy the files from the USB drive into another directory on the drive. I then can delete the original copies from the 2008 box. There were several quirks with USB drives connected to Vista in the early betas. I bugged 3 that I found and it seems this one made it into 2008.
  21. Re: Forgot to add: Enabling Aero on 2008 - no experience index needed :) Great post and welcome to the site. Windows 2008 was tested side by side with Vista. Once Vista was released the core was fine tuned for server performance. I wouldn't be surprised if many people use Windows 2008 as a desktop OS. Of course Vista SP1 has fixed many of the quirks you mentioned.
  22. I think it would be great if you could configure the input method per application. Some apps work better with the onscreen keyboard, others work better with the block recogniser, and OneNote works really well with this handwriting recognition thing that I've installed. Now if the right input thingy would pop up as you changed applications .... Thanks for listening. More... View All Our Microsoft Related Feeds

  24. No. Only way they could get it is if they are admin on the server.
  25. Hi all, I am trying to make certain changes to the registry under the HKLM\Comm directory and according to Microsoft these are considered "protected from normal applications" (see below). However, under WM6 Professional, I have no problem making the changes I need to.* Its only on Smartphone WM6 Standard (considered two-tier protected?) that I can't.* I am using the Microsoft remote tools - Remote Registry Editor.* After trying to connect it says, "A connection could not be made because the device actively refused it" or something to that effect.* Any ideas?* Is the only way to get a certificate from the OEM? Thanks in advance Nick From the page titled, Privileged APIs: http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa455835.aspx In Windows CE, the following registry root keys and their subkeys are protected from normal applications: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Init HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Services HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\WDMDrivers More...
