MySQL on windows server 2008(Build 6001)...
AWS replied to petter7252's topic in Tech Help and Discussions
Browse to the mysql dir and set permissions to write and modify on the myql dir. To do that right click the mysql dir and select the security tab at the top. Click the edit button just below the permissions window. Even though administrator should have access set to full control it might not. If you don't want to manually install using the tutorial I wrote, my installs were done via RDP and the tutorial takes that into account, you can try installing at an elevated level. Right click installer and choose run as administrator. -
MySQL on windows server 2008(Build 6001)...
AWS replied to petter7252's topic in Tech Help and Discussions
First thing you could try is to set permissions on the mysql dir to allow write access. I had a different problem when I tried to install mysql on one of the first betas. I found that the service is not being created by the installer. I downloaded the zip without installer and installed mysql manually. If you need help installing manually see this article I wrote for Windows 2003. The process is the same. If you have any further questions post back. -

At work we have a custom distribution, at home I have a custom distribution.* I was thinking of distributing it.* I have a couple of associates that use it and I have been increasingly using it at work on my own.* The biggest test was my sister in law who is the biggest computer illiterate you can find, she doesn't know how to turn the thing off, seriously.* She has been able to use it and loves it.* It's a remastered Ubuntu distribution with all the proprietary software that makes my black heart go pitter patter.* I recently dropped KDE and went with a modified XFCE desktop.* There are naming restrictions and such as I cant have the words buntu in it because I include my own repositories. So, what is a good name?* Something professional.* I have thrown out the name OS/3 as IBM might have objections, I threw out OS/360 as Microsoft and IBM might have objections.* If any of the artists want to help out with usplash, GDM and branding drop me an e-mail. I also don't just want to be another distribution, I have to do something that will set it apart from the rest.* Inclusion of Flash and the Fluendo codecs aren't enough.* While I love and I mean LOVE Microsoft, I don't want to kill it before it leaves the ground although Mono and Monodevelop will ship as the primary development language. For themes and artwork, it will ship with the OpenSolaris nimbus theme and iconset as the default.* I am looking at the 8.04 LTS as my first possible distribution if it happens. Advice, suggestions on why this is a terrible idea, a great idea etc. any dialogue please* pass it along.* Any flames, insults and other derogatory commentary can be directed elsewhere. More... Share how to convert dvd and video to iphone I was able to convert dvd/video to iPhone using the Cucusoft iPhone Video Converter suite software .I found on http://www.oursdownload.com/dvd-to-iphone.html So far, I'm really impressed with how easy it is to use and how effectively it got the job done. 1.Download the latest version http://www.oursdownload.com/dvd-to-iphone.html and install it. You can know more about it by referring here. http://freepchelp.forum/ 2.Insert the DVD you'd like to convert to your computer's DVD drive. http://freepchelp.forum/ 3. Click 'File' menu and 'Open DVD', or directly hit 'Open DVD' button to load the DVD. Set the profile to be iPhone 480*320 mpeg-4 video which is the default DVD video quality. 4. Click around in the DVD's menu to set up DVD playback as you like, select the subtitle and audio sound tracks etc, then begin to play the movie through the software by click the play button. 5. The following window will pop up. Here, you can rename 'Title Name', set 'Save Path' and output quality, then click 'Yes' button to start ripping DVD to iPhone MP4 or iPhone H264 video from the point that the movie starts. That is all. Just so easy! http://freepchelp.forum/ If you'd like to record from certain time point, or want to change some parameters like 'output format', 'video bitrates', 'frame rate', 'audio bitrates', please click 'No' button to close the window. Optional parameters settings * Select subtitles and languages Click 'Subtitle' or 'Audio Track' in the 'Setting' menu, choose the related value you like. * Set output formats Choose the target file format from 'Profile'. The software supports converting DVD to iPhone 480*320 MP4 video,iPod MP4 video, iPod h264 video, MP3 audio. http://freepchelp.forum/ * Set the start time to convert Use the video playback controls to queue up the point at which you want to start ripping. Or click 'Setting -> Go to' and jump to previous/next chapter. * More parameters Click 'Setting -> Output video settings', here you can choose different profile, video/audio bitrates, video size, disable video/audio, aspect ratio, frame/sample rate, etc. If you are not familiar with these options, please view the descriptions listed at the bottom of the window. *Crop/cut&Resize the movie If you want to make the widescreen dvd(16:9) to be outputted as fullscreen(4:3) video, you can use the crop function. Set Crop to "Crop both black bands" and resize to be "stretch to full screen" if you don't need to keep the subtitle. Set crop to "Crop the upper black band" so you can keep the subtitle in the down black band. http://freepchelp.forum/ http://freepchelp.forum/ *Direct/batch conversion If you want to rip you DVD movie into one whole file, please use the direct ripping mode described above. If you want to rip your DVD by chapters to into separated output files (for example your music DVDs, TV Episode DVDs), you can use the batch conversion rip mode, just ticket out the titles you want to convert and click convert. You can switch this two modes by clicking on the mode-Direct&Batch. 7. Hit 'Convert' button, choose the recording time point and quality, then click 'Yes' to begin to convert DVD to iPhone video or audio quickly. 8. After ripping, transfer the converted files to iTunes, and then sync to iPhone. http://www.oursdownload.com/dvd-to-iphone.html More... View All Our Microsoft Related Feeds

Currently I'm trying to get the remote access portion of WHS to work properly. I am able to view/manipulate files via the web interface, as well as get into the remote control portion as far as it prompting me to use the attached printers/clipboard, etc. Once I get that far into the remote access portion it attempts to connect and immediately throws an unable to connect, connection dropped error (can't remember exact error offhand). I have the modem set to forward the ports 80, 443, and 4125. I confirm that I can get through (and see traffic) on the port 80 and 443 side, but using some tools I can see that 4125 still doesn't seem to be forwarding, or at least not getting to my machine properly. I had originally thought that it was because I was using a Linksys router behind the Qwest modem, but I took that out of the picture and now have the WHS box hooked directly up to the modem. I've verified that I have the firewall on the modem disabled and that the ports forwarding properly. I've also put the machine into the DMZ and I still can't remote to the actual machines. Has anyone else on Qwest with a M1000 modem had similar issues or am I missing something? Thanks View this thread

Interesting tidbit written by Jamie from the famous (USA only?) show MythBusters. I guess Jamie doesn't believe that Vista's bloat and stability problems are a myth. I have a SonicWall TZ 180 Wireless Router. I have installed WHS on my system and had to manually open ports to get it to work. It seems to works fine on the LAN, but I cannot get a connection to clients on the WLAN. I guess I need to open the same ports. My question is: what do I put as my destination and source in the firewall rules. Is it LAN/WLAN or WLAN/LAN or something else? Do I open up the same ports as what MS recommends. I am almost there - any help from anyone would be appreciated. Thanks, FF View this thread

New question from me. :) Is there any elegant way of determining which directory is equivalent to "Program Files" on a given windows mobile device? *I'm developing an app that will be localized to several countries, and need to determine the Program Files path dynamically regardless of which region or country the device is localized for. I'd like to avoid having to hardcode every possible localized version of the file system. Examples: "\Program Files" (English) "\Programfiler" (Norwegian) "\Programmen" (German) and on and on... Is there for instance any environment variable on winmob devices that lets me determine the path on that device? Regards, Thomas Nilsson More... View All Our Microsoft Related Feeds

Why Linux is inferior to Windows and Macintosh
AWS posted a topic in Microsoft Support & Discussions
Head honcho of the Developer Division has a blog about Incubation projects. * Personally speaking, this is where Linux and Windows diverge. There is little to no innovation in Linux. One cannot afford to be as structured in an open source environment. Yes old ideas are used innovatively but there is no new stuff. The thing that constantly amazes me is how 'Head Honchos' have the knack to put things in buckets. I hear this time and time again. When I encounter the corona_coder, creditcard etc I always find that this element of incubation*is never present for all their ever present GPL waffling. I am however always careful not to write people off Prima Facie. If people 'harp on' about Macs surely there must be some intrinsic value in the product. Why is is that people always think that you're either Mac, Windows or Linux? Never can one use all three harmoniously? Now unless I'm missing something, what are the innovative features that Linux brings to the table? For the recent Flurry of Windows 7 pandemonium here at '9, the debate was centred around design and implementation of features. We can almost always expect to be surprised (anticipate derision here) by each new*Windows OS, what is it that Linux has? Why is it so great? More... View All Our Microsoft Related Feeds -
