Below is my question. When I submit it I keep being referred to a page which is "not available". Summary: I cannot install Windows 7 updates. Is the problem a missing “COMPONENTS” subkey in my registry (see below)? Help!!! I am running a licensed verified Windows 7 Professional OS on a Thinkpad w520. Avast is my security program. I have several problems updating 1. Windows 7 updating program tells me there are updates, shows a list, then runs but fails to install updates 2. I am notified regularly by other programs that there are updates and when I select “update” they fail do do anything. These include Java, Avast, and Thinkvantage programs. When I try to update Java I get a message: “The feature you are trying to use in on a network resource that is unavailable” and reports error 1714. I have read the document at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2509997[/color] titled “Unable to install updates in Windows Vista, Windows I 7, Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008 R2” and have worked through Methods. Method 1 did not work Method 2 did not work and after running the checksur and checksurpersist both logs showed: Found 2 errors CBS MUM Corrupt Total count: 2 Unavailable repair files: servicingpackagesMicrosoft-Windows-IE-Hyphenation-Parent-Package-English~31bf3856ad364e35~~~10.2.9200.16437.mum servicingpackagesMicrosoft-Windows-IE-Spelling-Parent-Package-English~31bf3856ad364e35~~~10.2.9200.16437.mum servicingpackagesMicrosoft-Windows-IE-Hyphenation-Parent-Package-English~31bf3856ad364e35~~~10.2.9200.16437.cat servicingpackagesMicrosoft-Windows-IE-Spelling-Parent-Package-English~31bf3856ad364e35~~~10.2.9200.16437.cat These did not seem relevant Method 3 ran the scan and gave the message “Windows resource screen did not find any integrity violations” and the install again failed. Method 4 did ran but did not enable the updates Method 5 says to look for “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINECOMPONENTSCOMPONENTS” in the registry. I do not have a subdirectory “COMPONENTS” under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE in my registry. Is my problem that I am missing this COMPONENTS key? Please help View this thread

In recent weeks, I've had a rash of customers, who've all had problems with Microsoft Windows Update across various versions of Windows. Presently, this particular customer is running Windows XP with MSE installed. Windows Update presents MSE update KB2804527 as an important update, but it fails. I've tried the recommendations I've found in the community, and I've tried to run the recommended "Fix It" tool on it, all without success. I will try to get a live support chat or phone support session going with Microsoft, but am posting this to the community to be a "good citizen", so to speak. :) Anyone solve this yet? What's going on with MSE updates? Why are they jamming so frequently across various platforms? Thanks, in advance. MJS View this thread

I have a 32 bit Windows XP box that I just built. Our company orders our workstations with two drives, one SSD and the other a traditional platter drive. The SSD is only 120 gig, so I want all future accounts to have their My Documents folder created on the D: drive. How do I make it so that whenever a user account is created, My Documents is placed on the D: without having to move it manually after each account creation? View this thread

I'm looking for detailed information about the final steps of installation and configuration that typically occur the first time Office programs are run. In particular, I'd like to know how Word and Outlook determine whether or not they should run this process in my case they run it every time I start them. I previously asked a similar question in the Office 2013 IT Pro general forum, which remains unanswered. I did get some advice, but essentially the only thing that was relevant was to uninstall and reinstall, which I have done several times: now Excel and OneNote start properly, but Word and Outlook have to run through an extensive process. I have also looked through numerous other forums and followed advice given for similar problems that happened in this and previous releases of Office it seems particularly prevalent in Word. I continue to get error and failed reports on installing this from windows update. Error code 80070103, and I click to find answers but nothing allows me to actually download this. Is there a link or site to get this download? I use Windows 7. I probably messed it up when I installed windows 8 without properly saving data prior to installing. I reverted back to 7 because my pc was so messed up. Thanks if anyone can help!!! View this thread

Had to do a complete system recovery on my Laptop, windows home premium. After clean up went to get the updates, there are 2 issues trying to resolve. First is there are updates that failed for Net Framawork 3.5.1, Checked and Framework 4.0 is on the PC, so is there really a need for these updates, may be the reason they failed ? Error code was 800F0902. Then some earlier updates on 3/30 failed, and later updates on 3/31 failed, some of these were security updates, others updates for Windows7, one ex. is KB2491683. I know the updates were recommended, none optional, but concern is putting them in after later updates and if they are actually required. The error codes were 800242016,800F0816 and 800F0902, none of which were listed in error help. I just uninstalled one of the failed updates figuring, I could do this with all the failed updates, it would then re-appear as a update to install but does not appear. So then is it a correct assumption that it is not needed, if needed then how do I get the update back in ?? View this thread

This is always included in automatic downloads but will not install. I previously had my updater set to automatically download but to allow me to manually install. That never worked. Today I tried the solution in MS's FAQ's to turn auto install back on. That didn't work either. (Other updates do install -- both manually and automatically.) View this thread

I received a call from someone with a thick Indian accept which said my comupter was showing errors and to click on an icon on the left side of the bottom of my computer, a windows icon. I told him I didn't see it because I have a MAC and he hung up. I think this is part of the scam. I google a statement that led me to this web page but I would like to know what is going on. I had caller id and call the number back and got a busy signal. View this thread

Hello, Windows 7 Update Suggests to install Microsoft Filter Pack 2.0 (KB2553501) 32-Bit Edition, but this Windows 7 is a 64 BIT Operating System, so do I actually need a 64 BIT version of Microsoft Filter Pack 2.0 (KB2553501) rather than a 32 bit version? If so, is it easy to find a 64BIT version?Help Please, dragondaveWR View this thread

For KB2742597 I've attempted multiple times to go through the usual update process. Each time it will download but not allow the install. I've restarted and tried to install it again...and same result. I manually tried to install it (yes I installed the prerequisite as well) and a prompt came up saying: "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable. Click OK to try again or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'netfix.msi' in the box below." ...I tried clicking OK to attempt it again and got no effect. I selected both of the options(individually of course) that automatically appeared in the box (one was a temporary file and the other was Microsoft.NET Framework 1.1 (Disk 1)) and neither worked. I then tried to Browse through the entire disk drive for some component containing the 'netfix.msi' and could not find a thing. For KB940157 I've gone through the same process of trying multiple times with a restart as well and I tried manual update for this too, but this also will not allow me to install it. I realize this is not a High Priority update so perhaps if someone knows how much of a benefit this update really is or if I can just disregard it, that would be helpful too. View this thread

When I try to install the March Update (3/28/13), I get the Windows Update error 800F0203. I tried a selective boot (disabled all non-MS services), tried the Troubleshooting Windows Update tool in Windows 8, and still no progress. All other updates install normally, and the system is fully up-to-date as of 4/1/2013 except for this update. Anybody from Microsoft have any ideas? View this thread
