I'm running Windows 7 64bit. I don't get an error message, what happens is it stays on the same update for hours. When i turned off the computer it had 40 updates and on update 32 it would not budge for 3 hours. I had to shut off via the power button and tried to update while i was logged into the computer and watched it not progress at all while installing. Can someone please help, i don't want to restore to factory settings if i can help it. View this thread

In December I purchased a new laptop with Windows 8 installed on it. It's worked fine, but I've noticed that I've not received any updates, for any Windows 8 apps I have installed on it, in at least a month. This includes things like the Mail and Maps apps, which I know have been updated in the last week or two. Why aren't I getting any upgrades to anything? View this thread

Hi, I have Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit SP2. Recently Window update has stopped working (Windows could not search for new updates). Tried Fixit, SFC, SUR tool, deleting Software Distribution directory (after running AVS and spyware checks) and rebooting many times. Please can anyone offer any advice? There were some problems with SFC but not sure how they related to WU. I can post other logs if required. The problem did not seem to be related to any windows update. Many thanks in anticipation. Hello. when trying to copy files to a DVD disc i keep getting the following error message " This DVD-ROM drive is read only. You can copy files to this writable DVD but you must insert it into a writable drive" .The drive IS writable and this message has only just appeared for no apparent reason .Sometimes files are partially copied then i get this message and sometimes the message appears without attempting to copy files at all but i am told that files are waiting to be written to a disc. I have tried uninstalling and re installing the drive and shutting off the computer and restarting it but nothing will cure the problem.Searches on the internet show that other people are having exactly the same problem but there seems to be no solution.Any body have any ideas?.The only other information i can give is that i have a ACER EXTENSA 5235 running WINDOWS 7 HOME PREMIUM 64bit. Any help or advice will be appreciated.Thank you. View the thread

My husband's Vista computer does not recognize an installed HP1020 printer. Control Panel shows it installed, but the "print" function won't select the printer, it keeps asking for us to choose a printer. There is only one user, NO NETWORK, one printer installed, and he can't print anything! He particularly needs to print things from the Internet (research, etc.). HELP! Kim View this thread

I purchased 8 GB of memory and a 750 GB (ST750LX003) Seagate SSD Hybrid Drive. My system had Windows 7 32 bit, 4 GB memory and 320 GB drive. The 320 GB drive is in a separate USB case now and is in it's original state. I loaded Windows 7 Ultimate on the new drive, everything went smoothly. I downloaded the Lenovo software for drivers and updates, it all ran fine. Installed Office 2010 Professional. When it came time to run WIndows Update, I get the message with the error code. I also cannot load .NET 4.0 because of the same error code. Windows is authenticated and passes Microsoft Genuine Diagnostics, yet nothing changes- no update. I have also loaded Intel Chipset software people suggest- no difference. This has been the third day working on this off and on and it's getting tiresome. Give me suggesntion, please, I want to get this behind me. This machine is not a toy, it's a tool for my business. Thank you, in advance, for you kind assistance! View this thread

We have run microsft removal tool, spybot, superantispyware, ms defender, Malware bytes and found nothing. We cannot update the office file validation add in or either of the recommended updates 2632503 and 2492386. We have been able to run defender update 915597 and 2809289 cumulative for ie8. We have run the updater fixit tool in both std and agressive modes. We have run sfc /scannow. Have run the fix that reregisters the dll's & is named register.bat. I have run out of patience, links & caffeine. Any ideas or suggestions greatly appreciated, I am missing something don't know what! Today is April first. At work my Windows 7 (64 bit) laptop claims that the time right now is 2142 UTC, but it is NOT, it really is 2042 UTC. As a consequence, my local time is ahead by an hour - it claims it is 1442 Pacific Daylight Time, but it is really 1342. Yes, this has something to do with daaylight savings time, but I've got everything correct. The problem appears to be that over the past weekend the British Isles went onto British Summer Time - and the Windows 7 clock utilities are mistakenly pushing UTC forward by an hour. I have tried various time servers and the result is always the same - UTC is off by an hour. This just seems impossible to me - how could M$ screwup something like this? View the thread

I turned my uac on because I had a virus last week that changed a bunch of my permissions. I now cannot access anything on my hard drive, it says I am denied access, but can also not turn off the uac again. I also tried to restore to an earlier date, it would not allow that. Any advice? Summary: I cannot install Windows 7 updates. Is the problem a missing “COMPONENTS” subkey in my registry (see below)? Help!!! I am running a licensed verified Windows 7 Professional OS on a Thinkpad w520. Avast is my security program. I have several problems updating 1. Windows 7 updating program tells me there are updates, shows a list, then runs but fails to install updates 2. I am notified regularly by other programs that there are updates and when I select “update” they fail do do anything. These include Java, Avast, and Thinkvantage programs. When I try to update Java I get a message: “The feature you are trying to use in on a network resource that is unavailable” and reports error 1714. I have read the document at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2509997[/color] titled “Unable to install updates in Windows Vista, Windows I 7, Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008 R2” and have worked through Methods. Method 1 did not work Method 2 did not work and after running the checksur and checksurpersist both logs showed: Found 2 errors CBS MUM Corrupt Total count: 2 Unavailable repair files: servicingpackagesMicrosoft-Windows-IE-Hyphenation-Parent-Package-English~31bf3856ad364e35~~~10.2.9200.16437.mum servicingpackagesMicrosoft-Windows-IE-Spelling-Parent-Package-English~31bf3856ad364e35~~~10.2.9200.16437.mum servicingpackagesMicrosoft-Windows-IE-Hyphenation-Parent-Package-English~31bf3856ad364e35~~~10.2.9200.16437.cat servicingpackagesMicrosoft-Windows-IE-Spelling-Parent-Package-English~31bf3856ad364e35~~~10.2.9200.16437.cat These did not seem relevant Method 3 ran the scan and gave the message “Windows resource screen did not find any integrity violations” and the install again failed.
