We are no longer allowed to have Windows XP boxes at work, but but need the hyperterminal functionality. We have licensed copies of Windows XP. If we get hyperterminal from our licensed XP installation media and install it on our licensed Windows 7 machines, are w violating MS licensing? View the thread

i've scheduled a scan to take place weekly and unchecked the box requiring my computer to be on but it never engages, why is that? additionally, when i run a full scan manually, it takes ALLLLL day, is this normal. i have an older dell latitude laptop running vista. thank you very much. I have a redirect virus on IE8, It happens with all the different search engines not just Google. I have tried Malwarebytes, Spybot and Superanti spyware which finds spyware and cleans it but when i restart my computer run program again and its gone but then I go into IE8 and it happens again and i run the program and it shows up again. Windows Update KB2807986 continually fails. Understand, I am a computer user, not a troubleshooter, so telling me about kernal,s etc. will only make me see corn kernals. I need help. Every time I open my computer in the morning I am in a restart position on my computer due to the failing of this update. Never had an issue with updates until this one came out. Now I cannot move past it. I have upgraded to IE10 and still this update fails. I am becoming angst-ridden over the restarting of my computer each morning due to this failed update. Going to the forums I learned about a clean reboot, but I am hesitant to try something like this since I am not familiar with delving this deeply into my system, and once I start I will have no visual screen to follow, so I am out of luck, unless I can get a step by step assistance preferably by phone. (But I refuse to pay $99 via the MS desk option, since this was created by MS). I would ignore or dump this update permanently but can find no place to do it, so I am left to assume that it is a necessary update. If it is necessary, why can't it be created to easily update all systems like all the other updates? to add: Not only have I tried to reinstall this update from the auto updater, I have also gone to the site and attempted the update directly...Still fails. I have disable my firewall to attempt this update, and it failed then too. I will disable both my firewall and antivirus and attempt this update now.... Arrgh. Any suggestions? Microsoft keep sending two updates which keep failing to install. They are--: kb2596764..Security Update for Microsoft Office Powerpoint 2007. kb2463332..Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Service Pack 4. In the Programs File I have Microsoft SQL Server and Microsoft SQL Server Compact Edition. But I do not have Microsoft Office Powerpoint 2007. Vista Home Premium Service Pack 2 32 bit OS. I have a Win7 x64 Pro box that i use as a file server. I originally set it up with 2, 1TB drives and mirrored them. Now I've outgrown them and purchased 2, 3TB drives to mirror. I converted the disks to GPT disk to recognize above 2TB's, but when I try to create a Mirrored Volume, the option is greyed out. Every other other RAID option is also greyed out. I am trying to install a HP wireless printer using Windows 8. I use the Add Printers feature, the printer is found, and then it asks me to select a driver. The exact printer is not listed in the model list, so I select the Windows update button to get more printer models. This hangs and never comes back. It worked on another WIndows 8 laptop where the model I wanted was in the list after the Windows update. Has anyone seen this and have a solution? View this thread

Since the last PokerStars update (on 3/28/13), I've had nothing but problems with the site: connection problems, delays, the site popping up constanly when surfing the web, etc. I'm told by the "problems and report" center that there is a problem with PokerStars interacting with Windows. My wireless chip in a Dell Inspiron 1520 laptop computer (intel pro wireless 3954bg) can find the wireless network if I use Intel Pro software, but Windows can not find the wireless network. My real problem conserns trying to connect a second computer an IBM T42 Think Pad computer to the wireless network, but I keep getting a message that the network is secure and the second computer keeps trying to aquire an address, but will not aquire an address. It just keeps trying to aquire over and over, it never can aquire it. This second computer was useing Windows to configure the wireless connection and was working fine untill I tried to connect the Dell laptop up. Then the IBM laptop can not aquire an address. I am going around and around trying to figure this out. Anyone have any information to fix this problem? Both computers are runing Windows XP Pro SP3. Clean install of Vista using Toshiba Recovery media. All updates installed OK up to SP1. SP1 is offered for installation, I install, re-boot, Installed Updates tell me SP1 is installed, yet Windows update tells me that SP1 is available for installation, and I can't install SP2 because it tells me to install SP1 first!
