I am running windows 7 windows update keeps offering the same updates KB2656351 and KB2600217.I have tried using the fix it program which removes the updates but the next time i turn on my computer it down loades the updates again View this thread

I need to restore my system to an earlier date before which I know everything was operating smoothly. The option to create a system restore point does not allow for input of a specific date in the past. Can I do this? I have Windows 7 Home Premium on a Dell Inspiron laptop. View the thread

Hi, running win7pro, same as the question says live mail will not launch after any update? Have run the ms fixit and it has checked a few things? but no different, have also uninstalled and reinstalled live essentials still no change? have also tried installing updates one at a time but still no different? only thing that works is going back to a restore point ? so now scratching at straws? Dell Vostro 400Quad Core Intel processor500 GB hard drive3GB ram I get a message from Windows Security Center telling me that my antivirus is turned OFF (MSE). When I open MES it is ON and all green. Dell Tech Concierge monitors the system and it "ppears" there are two versions of MSE: 2.1.6805.0 and 4.2.0223.0 in the system. For the past three weeks, Windows Update has failed with a 800706BA Error. I've checked the following: I'm running the current (and updated) version of Norton Internet Security and have not seen any issues. I've run SFC /scannow with no problem. I've run DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Scanhealth with no problem. I've run DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth and received a system error 1067. When I check the Windows Update service, the status shows stopped and stays stopped when I try to restart it. I have Windows 7. It has been working well for several years. windows auto updates. Yesterday after an update, the screen went dark except a little screen in the top left that says setting up personalized settings for web platform customization. I have restored to previous versions and it looked like all was well then when it updated to the new Windows updates it went dark with the little screen. I did a restore from a back up and again it looked like it was going to work but after the updates the same thing again. I have read the forums and it appears that others have had this problem recently. There were no meaningful and useful responses from Microsoft that I could find. Please let us know what we can do. I am trying to install a HP wireless printer using Windows 8. I use the Add Printers feature, the printer is found, and then it asks me to select a driver. The exact printer is not listed in the model list, so I select the Windows update button to get more printer models. This hangs and never comes back. It worked on another WIndows 8 laptop where the model I wanted was in the list after the Windows update. Has anyone seen this and have a solution? View this thread

I have tried several times to remove a trojan, DOS/Alureon. J but MSE send back an error message 0x800719dd. I have rebooted several times but to no avail. I have also run MalwareBytes but the trojan is not shown by this program. AVG also does not detect it nor does Super Anti Spyware. View this thread

We are using XP in a business environment. We recently noticed that some user's folders in "Documents and Settings" on a particular machine have randomly changed to being named with all caps. This is causing problems with their profiles. What could have caused this? Also, some folders have changed to say the user's name followed by a period and our domain name. Not sure what's going on. My system is updated to service pack 3. The system was working fine before I shut it down. I had originally turned it on to install a new security suite and and has been scanned and there is no viruses or malware that could be causing this.The two things I installed during that session were Kaspersky Internet Suite 2013 and Arcronis True Image Home 2012. In true image home, i installed the F11 key as a way to access that software in the event that windows would not start.I recently updated my xp pro system after nearly a year unplugged and it is stuck on update 25 of 69 for at least the last 12 hours. Should i just wait it out?What potential consequences could ensue if I reboot or power off the pc?If more information is needed, let me know. View this thread

One of the User accounts on our home PC got the Cheshire Police scam virus (locks the PC and asks for £100). The PC's Windows Update had been run a week beforehand, and Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) was up-to-date and had a full scan a week ago. The virus got through MSE without triggering any warnings, and locked the screen with the Cheshire Police scam. Nothing responds in this condition (including Ctrl-Alt-del), and the taskbar is missing. The current situation is- Boot into the effected User account, and my desktop without any icons or the taskbar displays for a few second, then switches to the Cheshire Police scam screen. Boot into the effected User account in safe mode with network support, and my desktop appears as 1 above. Ctrl-Alt-Del brings up Task Manager, and I can Run explorer.exe and the desktop icons and taskbar appear, and Windows appears normal. Boot into any other User account and Windows operates normally. Actions I've taken to get rid of it- When I first ran MSE from another User account, I removed a Java virus (unfortunately I didn't note it's name, but it's description said that it gave access to other people to my PC). After that, the situation is as above. I've updated Java. Now, I can run MSE in conditions 3 or 4 above and MSE reports no viruses....but I still get the Cheshire Police locked screen on the effected user account. Solutions- I suppose I could delete the effected user account and make a new one, but I'm concerned that this may leave some part of the virus or it's payload active, and would prefer to root it out completely. I'm somewhat puzzled why MSE didn't either intercept or detect this virus. Any guidance would be gratefully received. View this thread
