There you go, pulling some figures out of your ass. They say that 98.987%
of the people who pull figures out their ass don't know what the hell they
are talking about !!!!!!!

Enough said. This proves my point:

I guess you conveniently don't remember how you've dissed ABI Word, OO

Now, can you answer this:?

What's to like about Microsoft? They *obviously* hold their paying

Linux is a good replacement for windows if you

- only use the computer for light work such as web browsing and
semi-formal document creation.
- only use the computer for back end heavy lifting such as providing
file service or database services.

If you need to do serious desktop work such as CAD or professional
level graphics editing, or even serious gaming, you'll need to run windows.

Linux is a top choice for programming work, or as a replacement for
commercial unixes, or as an internet access platform. That it can't fill
the same role as windows isn't a fault of the operating system but simply
due to a paucity of high end desktop applications. Whatever the reason,
if you're not a programmer, a unix professional, or someone whose main
uses of the computer are limited to email and web browsing you'll be much
happier with windows. Or a Mac.

That being said I think everyone should have a linux box running.
It's a great way to make use of spare machines and it's a good learning
experience for anyone who wants to understand more about these devices
than "what do I click?" And linux can do many things windows can't easily
do such as access "broken" windows file systems, drive older peripherals,
and so on.

Massive effort? It took about half the time for me to install Ubuntu

So the dollar is down right now. Instead of 38 Billion he might just have
30 Billion. Just might have to cut back a bit. Maybe he can carpool to
WalMart

he will ditch Ubuntu like most everyone else

Try all time low and falling. Bush has spent over a trillion dollars
that he doesn't have on an illegal war so it's not surprising that the
dollar is going the way of the old German mark prior to WWII. Got a
wheel barrel handy?

He's got enough money for him and the next ten generations of Gates to
live high off the hog. I don't dispute that.

It is also why before I buy a PC, I know the components will run Linux.
All my old machines do not get tossed. They end up running Linux/UNIX is
some way. But this time, even my new machine has Linux on it, dual
booting.

Has anyone seen Frank? Oops, almost forgot, kill filed...must be working.

The problem IS Mike, he CAN'T judge from a technical standpoint because he
lacks the intelligence to do so. As a result, as evidenced here by him and
the other smacktards, he resorts to the old MS antipathy card.

No, it isn't in the wrong forum. If the question was purely one of
Ubuntu, I would agree. But you asked "...Vista users think of
Ubuntu...". A legitimate question to ask.

People on both sides. Some like myself, an admitted Linux user and I
bounce between all sorts of OSes in one day. But I am hear to in my view
dispel some of the mindless anti-Linux FUD.

Bill Gates already has our money, and he will live on for some time to
come.

If you are short of cash for chasing Microsoft products and OSes with
your credit card, try Linux. Ubuntu is a great distribution to start
with. You will find it includes office tools right out of the box. You
don't have to worry about license keys expiring.

Once you get Ubuntu loaded, post into the Ubuntu news group. There are a
lot of people willing to help over there. You will of course also see
many of the same characters here in the Ubuntu group doing the Ubuntu
bash.

Once you get Ubuntu up and running, load the Pan package for news. It is
much nicer than Outlook Express or Vista Mail. In Vista mail for
example, they haven't fixed a 10 year old quoting issue, but Pan has no
problems with posts from different sources.

One huge good thing about Open Source stuff like Pan, they often (but not
always) have packages that run on XP or Vista. This is beneficial in
that you can run the same application in Linux and in XP or Vista.
OpenOffice is another such product.

Up your meds ray. I posted links to screenshots in another NG showing that I
HAVE run it. You REALLY need to start paying attention. And yes it works
great if all you want to do is sit around on your ass all day and be
unproductive. I have better things to do than sit around all day and surf
the web, and play Tetris.
