No, it isn't in the wrong forum. If the question was purely one of
Ubuntu, I would agree. But you asked "...Vista users think of
Ubuntu...". A legitimate question to ask.

People on both sides. Some like myself, an admitted Linux user and I
bounce between all sorts of OSes in one day. But I am hear to in my view
dispel some of the mindless anti-Linux FUD.

Bill Gates already has our money, and he will live on for some time to
come.
If you are short of cash for chasing Microsoft products and OSes with
your credit card, try Linux. Ubuntu is a great distribution to start
with. You will find it includes office tools right out of the box. You
don't have to worry about license keys expiring.
Once you get Ubuntu loaded, post into the Ubuntu news group. There are a
lot of people willing to help over there. You will of course also see
many of the same characters here in the Ubuntu group doing the Ubuntu
bash.
Once you get Ubuntu up and running, load the Pan package for news. It is
much nicer than Outlook Express or Vista Mail. In Vista mail for
example, they haven't fixed a 10 year old quoting issue, but Pan has no
problems with posts from different sources.
One huge good thing about Open Source stuff like Pan, they often (but not
always) have packages that run on XP or Vista. This is beneficial in
that you can run the same application in Linux and in XP or Vista.
OpenOffice is another such product.
