Of course they're exploits when open to the Net. No one running Samba would
intentionally open those ports to the Net, doofus.

Obviously, what I have to say is way above your level of understanding. But,
that figures, since you're the Wintard.

Let me introduce you to someone who has never, ever been infected by
anything running Windows from their very first RTM of WinX...meet
me...Frank. And I'm sure I'm not alone seeing as how all the people in
all the businesses I deal with have never been infected running windows.
As for being productive in a business atmosphere, Windows is the major
choice then Apple and then well...who knows as I don't know any other
OS's used by all the businesses I deal with. Not one linux business user
do I know of.
So run your mouth all you want about how secure linux is, I for one find
Windows just as secure as any install of any linux distro.
So what you say is in reality, not true...which makes you another lying
linux loser.
Which also begs the question...why are you here...other than to spread
more lies about MS and linux?

Alias is here because, although the Linux groups are filled with
like-minded rabid 'tards, they keep laughing at him.

Here, in a smaller Linux pond, he can be a bigger fish.

You have NEVER had a virus or malware? And "all the businesses I deal
with have never been infected running windows". How do you know Frank?
Do you ask each and every user? Do you, a claimed business owner,
discuss viruses with other business owners? If you've NEVER had a virus
or malware, then all I can say is that you must be one lucky person, but
I don't believe your statement above and I doubt anyone else will
either. You can say you don't care what I believe (and I'm sure you
will) but it won't change anything.

I don't know ONE company or user who hasn't been infected either by a
virus or malware using Windows at one time or another. Even the
simplest of computer users within networks we admin, have wound up
getting a virus or malware, even with AV software. Heck, I've even
found them on my machine and I think I'm the most careful user I know
(it was years ago but the fact remains). It's one thing to try and bad
mouth Linux, but I don't think anyone here will give much validity to
you making statements like that.

Frank seems more delusional than usual this evening. In over 30 years

by far one of the most screwed up, constantly lying full time fools
I've ever seen post to any newsgroup. Maybe he's proud of that

No. And in small businesses I think that's fairly normal. I've heard
that a lot times in large businesses malcontent employees will
intentionally infect or bring down the company system.

Yes, I talk with the owners quite frequently. We discuss a variety of
technical issues.

Why is that? You think every window os in the entire world has to have
been infected at one time or another?
Is that correct?

I'm not the one trying to change someone statement. You are. Not me.

You don't need to snip as it seems fit for you. Just leave the content
and answer what is asked.

1. In small businesses, that is NOT normal, nor with large businesses
or single users. You say you talk with the owners. Interesting. I
asked you a few months back about business matters and you said it
wasn't any of my business. But your business contacts don't feel that
way? And why would viruses be the topic of any discussion in a business
to business talk? We never even talk about it with business owners.
It's handled on an as needed basis.

Do you ask each and every user of these businesses? Rarely does an
owner of a company of any size know of issues concerning viruses or
malware, especially for individual employees. Most of the time, we
discover the problems on a workstation. The user is unaware of any
infection.

2. It could only be "luck". I've seen the best protected users get
infected, including myself. And yes, I really can't think of anyone
(individual or network) who hasn't had some virus or malware or some
sort over the years. You would be the first person (you aren't claiming
the same for your business users so I'm guessing it's not the case) to
ever state they've never gotten any virus or malware. If that's true,
it has nothing to do with Windows.

And I'm not changing your statements. I'm challenging them.

You are just providing more evidence that you don't actually know anything.
Let me help.. a packet arrives on your computer destined for port 445.. OK
so far?
How does the *destination* port tell you where it originated from?

The only way you could know that these ports are open is for you to scan for
them.. this makes you a crimminal BTW.

Do you still think you are impressing anyone with your insults?

Insulting Linux users is just one of your many faults and I and most others
wish you would actually learn something.

I am quite confident that you could use Google to find many reasons why
Steve Gibson is considered to be a bit of a fanatic by people in the know.

Okay, time for a bit of logic.

Viruses spread automatically. There is plenty of evidence from
independent companies that some viruses have infected half the world in
days. Statistically it is almost impossible that "Some" system you deal
with has escaped infection, although it is perfectly possible that such
an infection has remained unnoticed and perhaps been dealt with later by
one of the aforementioned independent companies' automated tools.

The earlier Windows and some software like OE were extremely vulnerable
to infection, in fact it was IMPOSSIBLE to keep OE infection free until
MS added some settings and changed the defaults.

MS methods for dealing with such problems have improved enormously
since, but rather slowly in contrast to the speed with which they can
patch DRM vulnerabilities. Oh well.

However your claim that you have never seen an infected "Windows" means
you are either the only person on the planet to have that experience,
you have bad eyesight and have been looking at the microwave instead of
the computer or you are plain lying.

If it were not for Bill Gates (or someone like him) the personal
computer may never have been developed or be as affordable as it is.
OTOH if not for the development of Microsoft we might all be using the
much better designed Amiga. However we have what we have, and it is true
than being the most popular OS in the world, Windows is the biggest
target for malware. That fact is undeniable and so therefore threat to
Windows is undeniable. It would make more sense to accept that than to
keep trying to deny it's existence.

I have not experienced a malware problem with Windows for years (Except
for deliberate actions during tests) and it is likely that most people
here have avoided the problem too, but then most of the people here are
NOT ordinary Windows "Users" either. I recently got a machine from an
ordinary user (I would have considered her quite responsible) with
literally HUNDREDS of infected files and TENS of different viruses /
trojans / spywares.

In short then, what I am saying is that for various reasons, not all the
fault of the OS, Windows is more vulnerable to attempted infection than
any other - arguing whether it is or is not is pointless because the OS
is NOT the sole factor.

What MS have done with Vista is a step in the right direction in some
ways but now there are far more important issues and MS are on a path to
self desruction which will be a BAD thing for everybody, the whole
industry. They have forgotten one thing which in my humble opinion has
been a VITAL component in their relationship with customers. MS has
become "Unfriendly".

One only has to look in this group to see that "Unfriendly" has become
the norm. People don't want to be constantly accused of stealing or
being stupid.

He is not the only one who has not had a windows virus on their machine.
Despite your opinion that its impossible it would appear that there are at
least two of us.

However I can state that I was the victim of a unix worm once many years ago
on a Sun machine.
It would appear that the claims that unix is invulnerable are wrong as well
as the claims that you must get infected if you run windows is wrong.

What can be reasonably stated is that some users will get infected whatever
OS they run as they just don't understand the issues.
There are users here that will install software on their Ubuntu systems if
you email it to them.. they know they are safe so it doesn't matter if they
install it.. does it?
