Who cares if Linux finds a home in someones rectum! What does that have to
do with Vista?

Just FYI.

So? Do you think it's going to take over the computer industry? It's
like the South (Linux) trying to fight its grassroots movement with the
North (Microsoft) during the US Civil War. The North fought the war with
one hand tied behind its back. -)

LOL! From the article:

"HP might well start installing Linux on more PCs, says Charles King, an
analyst with Pund-IT Research. But even if it goes slow, he says, HP
won't lose out much because Linux is still so young.

King says Dell jumped into Linux as a move against rival HP, especially
in Europe and Asia, where Dell isn't as strong.

Some See Just Niche

Analysts say Linux will gain more acceptance not just when it becomes
more popular, but also when more good open-source software applications
are available.

"The (Linux) operating system and applications that are available for
Linux are much more user-friendly then they've been in the past," King said.

Another factor pushing acceptance, King says, is that Linux now can work
better with peripherals such as printers."

What does that have to

Vista is one of the main reasons people are thinking of going Open
Source. From the article:

"IBM's Satyadas says the latest version of Windows -- Vista -- also
might help Linux. Vista works best on more powerful and speedier
computers, which are often more expensive. When costs rise, people begin
to think about alternatives, Satyadas says."

Read the article. You obviously haven't.

No, the world is a bunch of cheap people that will find a WAY to make a
FREE OS work for them because they THINK it saves them money.

The real facts indicate that early adopters do not save money due to the
complications and issues about sharing. After Linux does actually become
a moderate force in the desktop environment, where 20% of all computers
are running it, it will start to have enough power to make other OS
vendors take enough notice to provide compatibility and the applications
vendors will start programming for the lowest common denominator -
meaning that apps will be feature barren at first, since it doesn't pay
to develop for multiple platforms unless the ROI is there.

Linux make a good solution currently for those that don't have to
interact with Windows users and that don't need to play popular games.

Sorry, but this isn't spam. This is posted to
microsoft.public.windows.vista.GENERAL ... which isn't a "peer-to-peer"
support group (although it can do that), but rather a newsgroup for general
discussions around Vista. And that can include the good, the bad and the
ugly about Vista and offer alternatives.

A number of MVPs, in particular Carey, have recently used this newsgroup to
initiate threads slamming Linux as not being ready for the desktop. My post
is taking another position, and if you actually read the article, you'd see
it was quite balanced.

There is NO danger of Linux overtaking Windoze on the desktop any time in
the foreseeable future. Microsoft has been able to establish its hegemony
on the world's desktops. BUT, finally an a viable alternative exists as
pointed out by this article.

Hopefully, this clarifies, and you'll rethink your charge of "spam".

Just so you understand a little bit more about Linux - and don't feel like
you need to feel threatened - please understand the following:

Linux is not interested in market share. Linux does not have customers.
Linux does not have shareholders, or a responsibility to the bottom line.
Linux was not created to make money. Linux does not have the goal of being
the most popular and widespread OS on the planet. Linux is simply about
CHOICE and thankfully it gives you and me and everyone the choice to use it
or not use it, if we so decide.

Cheers.

Nice post

Hopefully Alias will take notice. Just FYI.

If Linux ever does take over Windows, it will be in about 20+ years at the
earliest.

Sorry Clarabelle ...

But I've seen this every 3/6 months since the late 1990s

"will this be the year?"
"primed"
"Linux set to make a push in the third quarter ..."
"... the year of the alternative desktop"
"This could be the year Linux takes off"

Same message, same result

fits the NARRATIVE, doesn't fit the facts :)

truth has recently become 'the narrative' because of difficulties in
explaining away troublesome facts.

make stuff up and believe it .. :)

What are you saying, that as more and more people are getting exposure
to Ubuntu on thier computers, they love it so much that they do nothing

That's what Linux is all about.
Make stuff up and post it all over the place hoping naive people will
get sucked in.

Take a look at a topic list from comp.os.linux.advocacy on any day of
the week.

Here is one from today and pay particular note to the total lack of
replies to the one man SPAM machine.
Also notice the kooky, paranoid views of this and several other Linux
advocates infesting that group.

You just can't make this stuff up!!

Note the important bit above in what you quote.

Linux is irrelevant its the applications that matter.

It is a fact that you can run all the open source applications on a free OS
that is not linux.
Linus wasn't the only one to re-invent the wheel when he copied the unix
kernel and created Linux.
I suggest you look at FreeBSD as its more secure than Linux.
