Correct.

Linux has the problem.

Windows does not.
Mac does not.

I saw a virus once, my daughter bought it home from school about 15 years
ago.
It only got on her machine because she had to disable the AV to run the
program she had been given.
Just as well it was easy to remove using one of the many free AV programs.
Alias still hasn't grasped what the problem is with the Debian keys issue
and thinks the patch fixes the problem and not just what started the
problem. Of course like most Ubuntu users he doesn't understand enough to
actually be able to check if he has a problem and doesn't have any
anti-malware software to help him.

A serious question now. (It was you that said you have 40,000 users
right?)

......and that the support staff would need to be retrained. How many
support people are there for the 40,000 units ?

From my experience, in such a large system, very few users are allowed to
do anything on the PC other than start it up, run a few programs, and set
up some personal preferences for the desktop/theme/etc. There's no real
need for any 're-training' there, as most packages operate in the same
manner. And if it's browser based applications, you'de have to be a
super-moron to need to be re-trained for that.

Out of interest, how much does it cost for Linux tech training in your
area (for actually going to a classroom) ?

You are suchhhhhhhhhh an a**hole

Here is the real facts.

Windows is the best supported and used OS due to great marketing by MS
and runs the most software and in the past has been the best priced.
Now Windows is over priced. Plus Windows (due to MS tactics) had no
competition. But it was not a real good OS, being bloated and poorly
written but did have a lot of eye candy. It is also very insecure and
using it safely you need to support the likes of Symantec who is really
not customer friendly and does cause Windows to run worse than it
normally would.

Then there is Apple who had very over priced hardware and was much
slower with far fewer software titles. Now even though it is still
proprietary they have a good hardware platform and a good OS and they do
network with the rest of the computing industry easier. But it still
costs more and still has fewer software titles but is well supported.
Apple makes the best laptop for those who are willing to pay the price.

Then there is Linux. It is a real OS and reasonably secure. The fact
there are many distros is not as much of a problem nor are the many
GUIs. There does need to be standards that the distros adhere to as far
as installation, setup and configuration of software and hardware. That
is one of the main problems.

The other is printing. There is no standardization for Linux and all of
the software applications to support standard dialog and methodologies
for printing.

Then there is the issue of Linux getting enough market share so the
camera, scanner, printer and other hardware companies support it with
software and drivers to the extent they do with Mac and Windows.

When that happens you will see Linux take off.

What may be surprising is that for future versions of Windows to survive
they will need a major rewrite leaving behind all of the legacy
baggage. You may find that Windows will turn into a powerful GUI and
sit on top of a Microsoft modified Linux kernel. Then all of the Linux
bashers like LOL! will have to hold their nose while the click the Start
button.
