Sorry. You can program openoffice in python, its own macro
language, or YES! visual basic. See http://www.pitonyak.org/oo.php

Oh, this is vista related because ummm ahhh openoffice runs
in Windows too so if you can't afford 400 bucks for MS Office
SuperBusinessPremiumStandard you could try it.

Look, lots of people use excel for lots of things. It's all strictly
light-duty stuff. They even stopped supporting (they being microsoft) real
statistical work in Excel in like 2000. Now you have to buy add in packages.
It's a great tool but you don't run an enterprise on excel spreadsheets.

If you think oracle is "a database application" you need to
look again. If programs were ships Excel would be a coast guard cutter
and Oracle would be the Nimitz.

Oh, yeah, this is vista related because oracle AND excel run on vista!

No. I haven't been around much. Lol.

Has Dell every done this before on a laptop? First they acknowledge
what a POS Vista is by continuing sales of XP well beyond the first
anniversary of Vista and now this.

Can anyone (other than that idiot, Frank) really deny that Vista is in
trouble?

Must have been the top two members of the Italian Communist Party Central
Committee. They bought Ubuntu out of ideological hatred for the United
States who liberated them in WWII.

If Vista was "perfect" and selling like hot cakes do you think that Dell
would offer any other OS's on their systems? They are looking at the bottom
line here and taking sales from competitors. That's why they still offer XP
and 100.000 people wanting Ubuntu at say an average of $800.00 a unit that
the competition won't get. It's not about which OS is better.

I think MS has been open to Linux quite a bit. They do not want to miss a
boat.

There have been other player as well who tried to stake on Linux most
notably IBM.

MS clearly lost interest in the game. It has concluded that it is not a
commercially viable option. IBM also deflated on it as so many times in the
past with other things including DB2, and their other toys.

A few years ago right after XP came out after it became clear that Win2K had
many problems in terms of complexity but null security there was a total
chaos in the business software world. Viruses were running wild, media were
going bunkers on that, MS was stung.

At one point the CEOs of Major US corporations got up and told MS, enough is
enough, you've gotta take care of it or else. They got the message but it
took years for them to set the machine in motion and this momentum is only
beginning to accelerate.

The first thing they did was to make security upgrades mandatory to an
extent. In other words, if you allowed them to do they would download all
the security upgrades while you sleep. Before people had to keep track of
that stuff individually. They also began Vista because it was CLEAR to
everyone that XP could not absorb all new innovative security concepts.

That turning point also spelled a death knell for the free source. Software
business is becoming too professionalized to play with it on the Ubuntu
basis. I understand that schools in Israel may be buying WordSour or
whatever it is called because of the discounts by SUN. God bless them. They
are essentially third world, a bloating bureaucracy and they need to save
money. It is not professional software business!

Ubuntu is used as a propaganda tool by marginalized players who want to be
in the news and maintain their falling stock ratings. They may generate a
few news articles and then quietly sell a few shares of their "Ubuntu"
companies while the stock shot up for a couple of days.

This is all big bull*shit and MS knows it. They can sleep quiet at night.
Ubuntu will be dead in 5-10 years and nobody will remember what it was. You
cannot provide a professional software platform with the sole support from a
few nuts who have applied to MS for jobs, got rejected and keep grudge for
year and years.

I purchased a new Dell XPS 410 about 10 months ago preloaded with Vista Home
Premium. It's been awesome: very fast, works great with my peripherals,
seems to be quite secure, and I've had absolutely no problems (I did have to
reseat the video card once for a minor problem). There's nothing wrong with
Vista, especially when you buy a system preloaded with it. I have two XP
systems and two Windows ME systems along with my Vista setup, and the Vista
beats them all.

Right. I tried Ubuntu 7.10 recently just to see what the big deal was. I
played with it a while and found nothing to be excited about. Windows 98
was better than this. I tried and tried to find ANYTHING to be impressed
with and found nothing. It was clunky and needed lots of weird setups just
to make simple things work. I uninstalled it, pressed on with Vista, and
would never go back.

Jasper, don't be naive. It is a crime syndicate. I do not mean DELL but
those who wholesale Ubuntu for them.

They sell those "marvelous," low cost Ubuntu to East Europeans who get a
bootleg MS Windows Vista made in China at the same store, take the two
around the corner and arrive home with a new Vista DELL and, guess what,
Ubuntu left in a garbage bin.

It is an old news, the whole world knows it and what DELL can do? They have
to sell computers. If not them, somebody else will be happy to play the
charade and ship Acers or other machines overseas.

I am sure the most ardent supporters of Ubuntu in this very forum are making
money on this, I don't know semi-legal or illegal business, but it is in
their business interest to create at least a modicum of respectability for
the piece of sh*it.

Ubuntu clients don't call. They get rid of it an hour after they purchased
their new computers. Ubuntu is a major vehicle in a scam to sell computers
to East Europeans with alleged US technology (OS) and bootleg software
(Windows Vista--the latter comes from China).

Why would we need to do that? We can simply control their minds
with mindcntrl.ko.

I think it still requires the command line though. We're working on
that, in a secret project funded by the Illuminati. Soon even you will
have the power to cloud men's minds!

From the article (which you obviously didn't read or, if you read it,
didn't understand plain English):

"Starting today, Dell will offer Ubuntu Linux 7.10 on its XPS 1330
laptops in France, Germany, Spain and the U.K., the company said on its
Direct2Dell blog. U.S. customers will be able to order the machines in
"a week or so," the company said. For customers in Spain, this will be
the first time that Dell has offered a pre-loaded computer for sale with
Ubuntu Linux. Pricing details for the U.S. machines were not available."

Last I checked, France, Germany, Spain, the U.K and the USA are not
located in East Europe. Get this man an atlas.
