Sure it does. Windows has been notorious for this for years. Every so
often there will be Internet-wide epidemics of some nonsense. There
are entire rogue networks of machines that have been rooted over this
crap.

OTOH, I know people that can't stay on the net a week without getting
infested with malware. You clean the crap off their systems, tell them
to "don't do stupid things" and a week later their machines are completely
crufted up again.

You could make cleaning people's boxes a full time job if it paid well.

....can't imagine this box has never been suddenly power cycled.

That by itself would be enough to crack it up.

Take a system and make it dependent on a non-robust database.

....or IT professional sites.

This naieve notion that you have of being able to magically know what
is and isn't safe... as if there were some "evil bit" active on content
just isn't bourne out by reality.

I figure that in the best possible case you are an "unwitting accomplice".

Makes no sense. If it can run 'em, they should run fine.

Perhaps you have less than 128 Mb RAM in them?

I knew a guy who, just a couple of years ago, still ran Win98. But with
512 Mb of RAM. He was pretty happy with it.

Yeah, we Linux users have to put up with the same thing, but with sites
that just don't get the idea that there are non-Windows systems out
there.

--
Said the attractive, cigar-smoking housewife to her girl-friend: "I got
started one night when George came home and found one burning in the ashtray."

I used to frequent hacker and porn sites on my Win98 machine (for
professional reasons, of course!) and I never got infected. At least, not
that anyone could prove. (It's impossible to prove a computer is not
infested with anything unless it's been through NASA-like sterile procedures
during construction, and even then...)

Which is to say that they're just as safe to visit as any other site if you
take proper precautions. Which is to say that NO website is to be considered
"safe". NONE!!! Nor any computer, for that matter. You just try to manage
the risks properly.

You know I think most of you are really dumber than pigs. Have you ever
tried to coral a pig? It ain't easy. especially an old sow. If they
don't want to go they aren't going to.
MS users will go anywhere Redmond will lead them. Blindly, no thought,
just go.
Even pigs think for themselves.

I was trying to figure out where 'caver1" found the time to write that post
if s/he's still chasing the sow that can't be caught.

Yes, pigs can think for themselves, and so can most Windows users. It's the
Linux trolls who keep repeating the same old tripe, over and over and over
again.

Oh well, at least they're not pigs.

And maybe they even know how to spell corral... or use an operating system
that allows for a spellchecker.

Coral is something you find in the sea. Please try to think before you
type. Your blind hatred of something you've made up in your head is
clouding your thinking.

That's where you need to learn coral is spelled right. Wrong word
because I left out a letter. If you used Linux you would know that it
has a spell checker. Oh that is two words. If your head wasn't clouded
you would know that was not an OS mistake.

If all you can pick on is I left out one letter it's you that have the
problem.
All you people do is is let your blind hatred of Linux keep you spouting
the same mantra over and over ......"they want something that
works....Linux fails on all counts"

You are not the world. It cannot be disputed that viruses and malware
are a major problem in the Windows world.

....not at all.

This is just negative propaganda.

This is the HYPE that's fed to the ignorant to keep them away
from both the Mac and Linux.

Oh, another of those psychic windows users who know in advance what site not
to visit, in order not to get infected.

Yes, that is really convinving. All you need to keep your windows machine
clean of viruses and other malware is just a little psychic power. After
all, everyone nowadays has those powewrs, don't we?

Not my words, fella. Learn to associate the right quote with the right
author.... and to spell. FWIW, considering the word usage, it is
misspelled. I don't hate Linux, I just prefer something that works better.
For me (and apparently 94 or so percent of the rest of the population) is
Windows. Get over it.

Thank you so much!!!

I still can't figure out why, if Linux is so wonderful, you folks aren't
busy making it more palatable to the consumer instead of mass-trolling this
Windows group.

Oh, I get it: Linux User = Troll. Which of course isn't true, but I don't
for the life of me comprehend why you aren't being lined up against the wall
and shot by real Linux users. For me, you're just entertainment, sometimes
just a nuisance. For REAL Linux users, you are all just a big mess of bad
press.

NOW I GET IT! You folks don't actually know how to use Linux and are just
wasting your time in Linux groups as a front for your real activities.
Trolling this group and perhaps other MS groups.

How sad for the world of Linux.
