HP Laser wont accept driver on Server2008x64
AWS replied to skoch's topic in Tech Help and Discussions
Make sure the x86 drivers are available on the network. What is happening is the printer is trying to hand out x64 drivers only. -
This will sure stop much of the complaining you hear about the evils of Microsoft concerning Internet Explorer. I use IE and have nothing bad to say about it. Some people hate it and now those people will be able to get rid of it if they choose. Full Story: Internet Explorer can be turned off in Windows 7

The first screen you get on startup is to do ctrl+alt+del to get to the login screen unless you turned that off. I'm not exactly sure what you're asking. Can you give us a little more information?

As soon as you install term servives you'll be ask to install the CALS.
-
Open term services manager and it will tell how many cals are installed. You can also add cals you purchased with the managelrs.
-
Make sure you have enough CALS. Each device that connects needs a CAL. If all licenses are given out then the rest of the boxes will have to wait to connect.

Microsoft posted for download on February 27 of an update to its App-V virtualization product that is designed to work with the Windows 7 Beta. App-V is based on the SoftGrid technology Microsoft acquired in early 2006 when it bought Softricity. App-V lets users run applications without actually installing them on a local machine. This allows companies who want to make available a single image of Office or a custom line-of-business application to multiple users by pushing it out to them without having to touch each desktop. It also enables users run applications virutally that might conflict if run simultaneously on their Windows machines. App-V 4.5, the current release of Microsoft’s application virtualization technology that is part of the Microsoft Desktop Optimization Pack (MDOP), runs on Windows Vista and XP, but not Windows 7. The new CU1 (Cumulative Update 1) build, which Microsoft is making available on its Connect download site for existing App-V customers, runs on Windows 7, too. The CU1 build also includes a variety of fixes and udpates to App-V 4.5 that will work for Vista and XP users. Source: All About Microsoft Download App-V

After the overwhelming response to Windows 7 and requests for features from users, Microsoft has finally released the feature list of the Windows 7 Release Candidate. This release candidate of Windows 7 is expected to arrive on April 10, 2009, as per Ars Technica. In all, Microsoft's senior program manager, Chaitanya Sareen, outlined 36 changes in the Windows 7 release candidate. Minor changes will give users more control than what they had in the Windows 7 beta. However, Paul Thurrott dismissed these "laundry list of tiny changes, much like the '300+ New Features!' lists that Apple makes every time it ships a new version of Mac OS X." Here are a few important changes we'd like to highlight: Windows Flip (Alt+Tab) with Aero Peek The ALT+TAB window feature will be implemented in Aero Peek. Time delay in flipping between and cycling through windows will be displayed in the respective window through Aero Peek. Keyboard shortcut: Windows Logo+ # Keyboard speed and efficiency freaks would love the new keyboard shortcut - Windows Logo key + # key. This new shortcut will give you access to the taskbar for launching and switching to a program that is running. Touch-y tweaks This much hyped touch feature in Windows 7 gets some improvements like multi-touch keyboard, drag-n-drop support, and multi-touch right click in the release candidate. Native .mov file support Say adios to QuickTime, for now, Windows 7 RC will allow .mov file playback on the fly. FAT32 support Support for non-removable FAT32 and NTFS hard drives will be added, which was absent in Windows 7 Beta. Several enhancements and performance tweaks have been added in the exhaustive list of changes. We know that the new features are going to disappoint many users (read: testers), but this time Microsoft is taking each step carefully to not repeat past mistakes. Source: TechTree

Hi. I downloaded, installed, and configured the 120-day evaluation copy of WHS. Purchased a copy from Microsoft. Tried to enter the authentication code, and it simply fails. I call in on the phone, and that operation fails. What's up? (I've tried multiple times, for several days. The computer is connected to the Internet, has connectivity, yet when I click the link on the activation page to go to the online site, it takes me to a page that doesn't exist (that is, it's a broken link).I'm sure the copy I have on the computer is a little more recent than the copy I got from Microsoft (later SPs and stuff). Any suggestions? Is there a human I can talk with on the phone about this?I really don't want to have to start all over with the installation DVD, although I guess I can if I have to...-- Ken View this thread

Well, just in case you didn't have enough Windows 7 editions to go around, Microsoft Chief Executive Officer Steve Ballmer announced a fresh addition to the lineup, but this time on the server side. Speaking at the “Strategic Update” presentation for Wall Street analysts on February 24, 2009, Ballmer indicated that Microsoft was cooking the addition of Foundation Edition to the Windows 7 Server SKU lineup. In this regard, Windows Server 2008 R2 Foundation Edition is the latest item to be added to the extensive list of Windows 7 editions. Source: Softpedia

Question on Multiple Users in Windows Server 2008
AWS replied to stunna's topic in Tech Help and Discussions
Users that you create will only be able to run the programs you allow them to run. User accounts are fairly limited out of the box. Keep in mind you can only have 2 users connected at one time with RDP. You'll have to setup the server for VPN and buy the appropriate number of CALS. -
That's for sure, but, some people will still bash them.

You could try creating a batch file to install the language when certain criteria is met or use a scheduled task. -
There is an article on Engineering Window 7 blog about how they engineered the boot screen. Some videos as well as hand drawings are included. Give a pretty good incite into the detail that is gone into for even something seemingly small. Read the full article at Engineering Window 7 Blog

This is a very good read over at E7 blog. It lays out just what to expect in the coming months with Windows 7. As many have speculated there will only be one official beta release, build 7000, which was available to everyone on Jan. 7. The next release of Windows 7 will be the release candidate (RC). Then on to RTM. Speculation is Windows 7 RC will be available in the middle of April. Here is an excerpt of the blog post. You can read the full post at Engineering Windows 7 Blog.

This report turns out to be inaccurate. Seems someone at Microsoft reported to Arstechnica that this rumor is false.

Starting February 24, we will be releasing up to 5 test updates to PCs running the Windows 7 Beta (Build 7000) via Windows Update. These updates allow us to test and verify our ability to deliver and manage the updating of Windows 7. We typically verify servicing scenarios during a beta. Windows 7 Beta users will be notified that new updates are available beginning February 24 through Windows Update. Even if the user has Windows Update configured for automatic update – these test updates will not install automatically. Users will need to manually install the test updates through Windows Update. These updates do not deliver new features or bug fixes. The test updates simply replace system files with the same version of the file currently on the system. For more information, please visit the Microsoft Update blog. Source: Windows Team Blog
