Ok. last week i restored my computer to factory default settings. I got the computer in June 2011. Have windows 7 profession 64bit. i fully uninstalled McAfee thinking that it was causing problems. I have Malwarebytes as the only anti virus installed. Will probably reinstall mcafee if all of this is cleaned up. Ive been suffering many blue screens over the past week. When i select windows updatescheck for updates via control panel, i am greeted with: 'Windows could not search for new updates, Error(s) found, code 50080005 Solutions ive tried: - performing a clean boot - downloaded and used the windows update trouble shooter found here http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Troubleshoot-problems-with-installing-updates - downloaded and used System Update Readiness Tool found here http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947821 . All it did was launch a windows update standalone installer, installed some hot fix (which i did twice for a gamble) and went no where. - tried running cmd as admin, running 'sfc /scannow' that tells me 'Windows Resource Protection could not start the repair service' so i followed the steps found here http://www.winhelponline.com/blog/fix-for-error-windows-resource-protection-could-not-start-the-repair-service-when-running-sfc-in-vista/ , but then i got told another system repair was pending which needed a reboot but that didnt do anything. All of the above things i tried Failed and i still stand with the error code 50080005. In regards to the last step i tried, i do have a pending xml file in my windowswinsxs folder. Its full of an insane amount of text when opened in note pad. Also, each time before i get to my user log in screen on start up, it says configuration windows updates, loads for a moment, then says configuring windows updates failed, reverting changes, stuff like that. Many of my work documents have our company logo attached as a picture in a Header. Quite often but not always when I open a document (it could have been made by me or anyone else on a PC or another Mac), the logo (picture) just shows as a black square and will print like that too. We use dropbox and the best way at the moment for me to print a doc that shows like this is to reopen it on a PC. Obviously this is unacceptable. Please help. View this thread

When a **** woman showed up today on a site page that I had not requested I checked my browsers and found two that I had no familiarity with named Blabbers and Fun Moods. I did not find anything pertaining to it in my Control Panel's Programs department but I did find Blabbers and Browser Companion in my registry editor department. I researched some forums and found out they were both bad so I removed them. I run full scans regularly every week with Microsoft Security Essentials and it is just not catching these things. I am careful when I download something to NEVER accept ANY toolbars or browsers. All the other browsers were from sites I've been using for years for craft work. Not pornographic in nature at all or malicious. I deleted all but my Google Chrome and Internet Explorer. Google Chrome has been catching some dangerous sites and warning me of their dangers But MSE just sits there and says no threats found. View this thread

I had to install a new hard drive and reinstall many updates. Have had no problems except for service pack one for Vista. I have Vista Home Preminum. I can not install later service packs or upgrade explorer until I get past this service pack. My update history shows it sucessfully installed (serveral times) and it seems to do it correctly the first time. Now it keeps coming up as an update and goes as far as accepting the agreement and shows successfully installed But it does not show on the computer properties screeen. View this thread

Every day, Microsoft Security Essentials displays "PC Status: Potentially Unprotected", for the reason that "You haven't run a scan on your PC for a while. This could put your PC at risk." Is it normal for the program to want to run a FULL, 4-5 hour scan every day? Running a Quick Scan does not satisfy the requirements for removing the Potentially Unprotected status. Is there a way to change it so that it requires one full scan per week instead of per day? Thanks for your time, James View this thread

When I tried to open a web page, an MSE alert came up on IE saying there were potential threats (Trojan, Hack Tool and Adware) and that I needed to clean my computer. When I clicked on “Clean computer,” a message came up saying “security_cleaner.exe is not commonly downloaded and could harm your computer,” with the options of “Delete,” “Actions,” and “View downloads.” What course of action should I take to deal with the alert? The drive recognizes that there is a blank cd in it. The cd acts like it is burning and then half way through, it stops and the message says unable to burn. Burning data files work fine. During setup, the drive is in bold type after I click burn, the drive is no longer in bold type, kind of like it is not there or available. To my knowledge I have not changed anything. I have this brand new windows 7 computer I built and for some reason it takes 10 minutes for my update center to load or it crashes. It worked at first but at some point i noticed it had started this problem, Although I simply let it be because everything else ran right and I didn't have the want to deal with it. Recently I bought a game that tries to install the .net framework but it won't work and I read on a forum that if windows isn't up to date it can cause problems. So in short i need this fixed so I can play my game and so I can know if I'm updated or not. Like i said it did start once but it shows me a read shield that says check for updates now but when i press the button under it to check it tells me &quotWindows Update cannot currently check for updates, because the service in not running. You may need to restart your computer.&quot but ii have shut down and restarted my PC many times between the first time I've encountered this problem and now. When I try to install SP1 for Vista, it prompts me to accept the terms, and tells me it will restart several times. It begins to download, but then ends about ten seconds later and says that it has been successfully downloaded. When I start my computer again, it says that SP1 needs to be downloaded again. I have a Samsung laptop with Windows 8 I got in November (Black Friday), and ever since around February's update its slowly been having problem after problem!First, when I tried to turn it off it would just come back on. Upon googling it I found how to fix it (by unchecking that faster thing) and did.But every now and then when I turn it on it'll tell me SW Update thing crashed, every other night it crashes on my game or on my art program and to fix it I have to try and restart, but it just doesn't restart leaving me to turn off then back on and then leading me to find it remembers none of the recent saves leading to THAT crash. Heck sometimes even when something doesn't crash if needs to restart it doesn't work! Its driving me nuts, and now I tried to do some "Critical" windows update through the SW Update, and its been on the same thing for a few hours now and won't let me do anything with it! Can I install a Volume Licensing copy of Windows 7 on a Mac. In the past I was able to do this using the Ultimate version, but with Windows 8 it isn't clear if I can get the licensing for a version of Windows 8 and install Windows 7 on the Mac.
