I have an XP machine that was recently compromised by the W32/Reveton trojan. I've managed to regain control of the machine, have performed an Upgrade installation of Windows, and restored all service packs and updates. I'm trying now to re-install MSE on the system (it had been installed prior to infection), however when doing so, I am constantly confronted with the dreaded 0x80070643 error. I have been to (literally) dozens of sites advising how to remove WSE from the system and as such I have: run the prescribed MrFixIt tool for this issue, it completes without hiccough or complaint. downloaded and (re)installed the Windows Update Client downloaded and (re)installed the current Windows Installation Client downloaded the newest "mseinstall.exe" for WinXP from Microsoft and have performed the "mseinstall /U" operation several times, which processes normally and indicates that it was successful. manually searched for and physically removed (when found) requisite folders from "C:Documents and SettingsAll UsersAppDataMicrosoft", "C:Program Files" and anywhere else as indicated by any of the sites that I've visitted on this topic. parsed the registry removing any/all related keys as advised by any/every one of the many websites that I've visitted about this issue. forced Windows Security Center to reload/refresh its database. Nevertheless, EVERY time I attempt to install MSE, first it comes up and says, before installing, I should remove any existing anti-virus software from the computer, and, when I tell it to proceed, it subsequently processes for a bit, before failing with the aforementioned 0x80070643 error. Needless to say, I'm VERY frustrated right now... It's especially frustrating that the Trojan can obviously bypass and disable MSE at will, yet I can't even get it to (UN)INSTALL itself correctly... Unless I can find a new way, I'm almost at the point of formatting and reinstalling the OS from scratch.... :( Any assistance will be tremendously appreciated! -Brett View this thread

Downloading the latest updates for Windows 8. Hope I don't have to reinstall this time. Last time, after restart, my monitors would go on and off, on and off (no picture just the back light came on). Left the room, came back in 20 minutes, still doing the same thing. Restarted manually, same thing. Turned the computer completely off, came back in 20 minutes, restarted, same thing. Inserted my Win 8 DVD and was instructed to "Refresh." Said OK. When I came back the next morning everything was fine. Except I had to reinstall all my programs. Everything was gone. Luckily my Outlook emails were OK. Can't say the same for Windows Live Mail. So it's almost finished installing the latest updates. After it restarts I hope all is well. Here goes restart, right now. After loading Updates on, 4/11/2013 my Surface is slow to resume after sleeping. Investigation of event viewer reveals error Event ID 41 Kernel-Power, The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This happens 100% of the time resuming from sleep.Update, uninstalled all updates done on 4/11. Issue still exists. During uninstall of updates device would hang on "configuring windows, do now power off". Eventually I would power off and then it would boot back up. Immediately doing a restart bypassed further "configuring do not power off messages" until the next update uninstall that required a reboot.Further update:Attempted to reinstall all updates one by one, for some reason even though I had only one update checked - ALL updates loaded (cleanly without issue). One more piece to the puzzle - possibly unrelated. During this process I noticed that there was a error Event ID 45 related to UEFI firmware and the device was being disabled. I rolled back the driver to get around that. During the re-install of updates, this driver also re-updated and is now working properly.Once all updates loaded and the system restarted I did a shutdown then power up.Then I tried "sleep" and all seems to be working properly now. No more error 41. View this thread

I have 2 node Hyper-V Cluster. I would like to be able to patch the individual Nodes. We do have Live Migration capability. The question is, How do I place a node into Maintenance Mode without SCVMM installed? This is a simple configuration and the complexity of SCVMM is not required for the daily management. I am unable to find anything located within the Failover Cluster Manager that provides for this? If there is not solution built-in, then what is the procedure for Patching the Nodes? Thanks. I have a gateway nv57h44u laptop with windows 7. A month or so ago I switched to Firefox because things were slowing and freezing sometimes. This helped immensely. Don't know what info matters, but I didn't remove program for explorer in control panel. Tonight I turned it to shut off and it started adding some updates. I left it on and went to do something. Eventually I noticed scene was dark and closed cover. Later I turned it on and it said do not disconnect as on update 5 of 6 updates. It kept that on there for over 30 min. With a little circle moving around in circle and no other activity. I finally closed and left off a while and same happened. The next time after waiting another 30 min at least, I disconnected Internet modem so it would reset and also the router. I keep laptop pluged in with wirelines joining all these pieces for security instead of using it wireless. It still did the same thing when I turned it on. I feel sure it is not connected to the Internet. The message to not disconnect etc. comes on immediately and I have no chance to open in safe mode or anything. I tried cult alt delete and several other buttons that I don't know what they do and nothing. The only thing I saw that might have been different was the .. At the end of the statement moved around a little in a pattern. Help! I am now on my I pad and if this is going to be typical then you and I have a problem! You being Microsoft. This laptop has been used less than I usually use computers and doesn,t have a lot of extra programs etc. It evidently wasn 't through with updates when I initially closed it. I noticed after 5-10 min. It turns black screen and I had forgotten that if I'd noticed before. Pardon capital letters a couple of places they don't belong. Apple adds them trying to correct me. My PC runs XP and Microsoft Security Essentials, with no known problems. However when attempting to go from a Google search for Little Rumba to the little rumba web-site - www.littlerumba.com - via the Google link - I encountered a notice from Firefox on one occassion and on another occassion from AVG Link scanner on my PC, warning me and blocking access to the site becos of ExploitRedkit Exploit kit type 1999 (and other nos..)Using other search engines to access the LR web-site via a link does not show up any problems. My PC is at all times up to date with its MSEssentials and I have done 2 full scans since and it has found nothing. My netbook - also running up to date and fully scanned MSEssentials did not flag up the Google link problem. Is my PC where the problem is ? or do others accessing this Little Rumba site have a problem? How do i deal with the problem? IE 10 does not start when I click on the IE icon. Therefore tried following steps: a) Checked for "Windows update" for IE 10 found 1 update (about 42MB) ). Tried installing it but it failed giving following error: "Code 9C48 Windows update encountered an unknown error. b) Since (a) also failed I tried "Get help with this error" and tried Windows automatic troubleshooting tool. It fixed some errors. However, when I again tried to install Windows update for IE 10, it again I got the same problem as mentioned in (a) above. Please advise the next steps. View this thread
