Have downloaded and run the Tdsskiller (found no infections), and Malwarebytes (found 10 infections). and kept the programs and logs on my desktop. I am sorry I did not realize that I should have my own thread about this, since my error message was the same as the others. I ran the Tdsskiller and the Malwarebytes again today and there were no infections. Prior to this I could not start or run my Microsoft Windows Essential, which I have now uninstalled from my laptop. It would not update and I could not see my FireWall settings. I would like to continue to resolve my issues so that I can keep my laptop at least until Xp is no longer supported. Could someone be kind enough to tell me what to do next and how to continue with the fixits... thanks so much for your time and help!!! View this thread

Should I uninstall security update 2823324 even if I'm not having problems with it? How should I uninstall it? KB 2839011 provides several methods of uninstalling the update for various situations, but does not describe how to uninstall it if it is not causing a problem and the system has been restarted. I use Windows 7 on an iMac 21 machine. I use an Apple "Bootcamp" software program, dividing the 500 GB HD between the OSX and Windows 7 OSS. I want to edit/purge my software programs and applications, so I go to Windows Programs and therein lies the problem I have. If I have down- loaded the program and I do not have the CD Rom installation disk, I cannot determine from the Windows Program List just what the programs are for from the icons and minimal description provided by the Windows Program List. I cannot remember what it is some of them do, but God only knows my computer sure does, and if I delete something I should not delete, I will have a sick computer or worse! All I get are, for the most part are ". . . do you want to uninstall this program?" Well of course I don't not without knowing what the heck I am about to do to mycomputer. The program, file name, extensions and icons are really confusing and for a layman, totally incomprehensible. It seems the Developersof the programs do business using trade or brand names which have little if anything to do with either the function or purpose of the programs. Windows updates are not the worst but they are high on the list. I faithfully and automatically download all Windows updates. Why. as Mickey would say? I have no idea, but I trust MS (usually) to do the right thing by me and not screw up my Windows 7 OS. Do I have to download every- thing that comes my way? Probably not, but If it comes from MS or the big guys, I trust them, MS and Adobe, Corel, etc,, enough to update, butif I want to stream line my programs and get rid of chaff and keep only the wheat, I need to know what I have gotten, gratis or paid for over the years.Suggestions are hopefully solicited, and will be carefully read, even followed, if you keep it simple. Thank you! View the thread

First, Windows 8 has set me back to square one. I cannot make heads nor tails of how to use it even after using the demo videos (which freeze sometimes and then close abruptly). Second, I cannot trust that the new HP PC will let me get through a series of screens without freezing from time to time. My old laptop which is dying, is more dependable with Word3 and Windows XP. I can work faster on the old laptop, which was slowing down due to memory needs. Still, Windows 8 lets me do half of what I need to do in double the time. I wish I could dump this new Operating system and just get XP. The computer was a gift from my daughters. I have used computers and Microsoft products for over 25 years. I learn fast but am no professional. I am very, very disappointed in this product. View this thread

I got a phone call from "Peter", a "Microsoft Representative" today, whom I am quite sure was a scam. Here's the reasons why: 1) Number one reason (and I checked with MS automated chat on this one) Microsoft will NEVER use a phone call to solicit anything. (Why would they, anyway?) 2) There was a lot of noise and chatter in the background. I think Microsoft can afford offices that will prevent this. 3) I could only understand about half of what he was saying since he had such a heavy accent from somewhere...that doesn't necessarily by itself mean it's a scam, but a red flag to count. 4) His heavily accented name was "Peter". Again, not anything in particular, except both of your ears should be perked up now... So, all this happened before he even said why he was calling. He called me because "your computer has been copied to somewhere else, and we want to help you fix it." OK....ummm...I think Microsoft could detect who copied it if they knew that had happened. You learn to see details about scam artists when you start with a few basics, like, a good basic rule for on the phone, is, if they called you as opposed to you calling them, it's not likely to be legitimate. If someone does call you, ask for a phone number to call back to verify. Even if they say, "ask for, (Peter)." Which is just what this "representative" said. This is designed to gain your trust for their crime. And don't let them distract you from actually doing that. It's hard to do if you're not used to doing this, but pay attention when you receive any kind of solicitation, whether by phone, computer, or your front door. (which isn't very safe anymore, anyway) The phone is particularly effective on this note, becuase you can't go back and re-read what was said, and you can't see who you're actually talking to.BE CAREFUL OUT THERE!!! Have run quick and FULL scans and the warning will not go away. I am NOT using CC cleaner, nor System Care, neither is on my WIN 7 machine. No other anti-virus ever been installed. Other answers address only users of CC Cleaner and/or System Care. What do I do? Thanks, 2 hours later: discovered and downloaded/installed an outstanding Windows update, and the MSE problem has disappeared. Don't know why, but everything is back to green... View this thread

So since installing windows 8 on my laptop it has been telling that there are updates available in the store for the basic apps and a few that I have tried to install from the store. Neither the updates or the additional programs will install. I click to start the installation and they start with some pending but after a few hours I check and it says there was an error and that I should try again. What should I do to get the programs to work? I've tried the app diagnostic and it did nothing. View this thread

Every time Windows automatically updates on start-up it somehow turns off my DSL. I have DSL from AT&T and have a new Dell XPS desktop. I am unable to log on the internet. The only way I am able to log on is to restore my computer to an earlier time. This keeps happening nearly every time there is an automatic Windows update. How do I fix this issue? View this thread

Tack..
