I have tried everything to get this update to install - no joy. Tried clearing update cache, using MS "fix it" tools, download update straight from MS website - nothing works. Also, I can't install the IE10 upgrade as it states this security update needs to be installed first.Any thoughts? Anyone out there see this error? Suspect a corrupted reg key somewhere?I am running W7U x64 - all MS updates current except for this one and the IE10 update/upgrade.Thanks for your help. View this thread

Has there been any news on the patch for the Windows Vista KB936825 . I was advised that This month's patch was a little different, though. Microsoft believes one of the nine patches is responsible for crashing people's computers and preventing them from turning on. This happens when I turn the computer on. It then reads - the specified model could not be found. SetConfig Application has encountered a probelm and needs to close. I do not notice any other problems after I click out of this error until I turn computer off and when I restart it happens again View this thread

I am having a horrible time getting Office 365 installed on my PC. Keeps giving the general message, that I need a modern OS. Well, I do. I am running Windows 8 with Media Center. I have tried all of the compatibility ideas. I have went through the reg file and cleared out any mention of office15. I have clean booted and tried to install. I have searched and searched the web. I see lots of people with this issue, but no solutions. I have also tried saving the file to the desktop and running it, as some have had success. I have not. Any help... View this thread

Tried the troubleshooter and same two problems are fixed over and over again: potential windows update database error 0x80070490, and update components must be repaired. Both fixed each try but no help there. Tried the safe boot and still no help. Problem: when checking for new updates the same ones keep showing up to download. Some of which have already successfully been installed. Some download, configure, system restarts, configure again and fail. Then revert to original changes. Help!! View this thread

This update installed 4/10/2013 but for another reason I did a registry restore to prior date eliminating updates done after that time. I was able to install the other updates except this one. Have tried again and again. Mr. Fix it says they repaired update components. However, default windows update data locations have changed, was checked but did not say it was fixed. On detection details it says windows version 6.0 . I am running Vista 64 bit system? View this thread

Windows Update informed me that I had an "Important" update pending so I tried on three separate occasions to install it but it failed each time, The error code was 80070103 and the download was an 'Important driver update for NVIDIA GeForce 8200', my OS is Vista, could someone please advise me what the problem might be and what I can do to enable my PC to accept this download. I got a message saying that my windows would be disabled in 30 days as I seem to have a phony copy. Not possible as I purchased my laptop with windows 7 already installed. I am using Microsoft Security Essentials on Windows 7. I noticed today that two of my older definition updates in March, one had failed and one said cancelled. It has done updates fine since this date but I am concerned that these missing updates will leave my system unsafe. I cannot see another update with the same reference number downloaded at a later date, which is very often what happens if a windows update fails. View this thread

My computer has slowed over a couple years. i've had help to increase memory and upgraded my internet speed. the person who dealt with the memory recommended MSE noting that lately McAfee has been becoming burdensome for many computers. Seems every time i sit at my PC, McAfee is either running an untimely scan, or automaticly updating. Not sure if i should make the switch to MSE even if it is free. View this thread

I have this problem with my Acer Laptop. I bought it brand new with Windows * pre-installed and no DVD with Windows 8 to try and repair it. What happens is: from time to time, after certain windows updates complete the Windows dies instantly and shows an error: "Windows has encountered an error and shut down to prevent any damages. Press any key to restart. "When I press any key as it says, another error comes up and says: "Sorry, no boot device found! Retry!" I retry and I get the same error message forever. If I really want to use the laptop I have to restart manually from the power button. But all my open pages, files and folders and all the unsaved work are gone and I have to start over.How can I fix this? Thanks. View this thread

Hello everyone, I've just upgraded my PC (almost a full build - new motherboard, processor, memory and graphics card) and done a clean installation of Windows Vista Home Premium x64, but I'm finding it impossible to update windows and therefore make use of it! :-( When I try it does a few updates but then gives the error message "Windows Modules Installer stopped working and was closed", the update does nothing for a while and then my PC reboots.
