Why one should choose Linux over Vista

And so why do you keep pushing people to use Ubuntu? Or do you think
that the superior security of linux is what's protecting you and not the
small market
share?

Yes, that's true and why I don't use Linux myself. See, you can make a
fact based argument if you want to. Shame everyone in this newsgroup
can't.

A reasonable conclusion. Shame Frank can't be reasonable and must
resort to childish taunts and profanity.

Surprise, I think Alias constantly evangelizing for Linux is
ineffective and foolish and yes a disruption, but he has a right to
his opinion and he does not attack people unless someone attacks him
first. Where we part company is he has a right to express his views,
even if he repeats the same things hundreds of times. Simply ignore
his evangelizing.

Again, the main disruption is Frank who is always too childish to
ignore any post that bugs him or calmly argue any valid points. THAT
is why there is so much noise here. Frank got it in his head he can
attack whoever he wants. Others join in and disruption is the result.

Newsgroups are designed for sharing different opinions. Frank and
others like him have yet to understand this group should not function
as a fan club for Microsoft and they deliberately interfere with the
open exchange of different opinions acting like bullies always
attacking posters that don't share their narrow views.

There's room for both pro and con opinions. Whoever makes the best
arguments will persuade the most readers their view is correct or at
least should be given serious thought. It is as simple as that. Frank
wins nobody over with his constant bluster and repeated lies and crude
attacks. In fact one could argue Frank has done much to turn people
off from Vista.

Once you start down the slippery slope of saying you can't discuss
this or that, soon it becomes a breeding ground for thought police.
While annoying, as I've told Alias myself, I still defend his right to
evangelize and he's picked an appropriate group since General is all
inclusive. If or not he's successful or even effective isn't the
point. The point is he has a right to his opinion and to express his
views without being attacked and called names constantly by the same
handful of dopes just as much as Frank and a few of the MVP's
shameless shill for Microsoft. That isn't effective or appropriate
either.

I couldn't care less who kill files me either. The people who have in
the most part are Frank wannabe types. I don't care where losers
think, that would be stupid, and while I'm many things, stupid isn't
one of them.

You have risen above the noise, so I hope others do as well. We'll
see.

My hubby Ringmaster still doesn't understand that there is a time and
"place" for discussions. One time, he took his little Precis in for
service and got mad when the mechanic refused to listen about his
hemorrhoid problems....

They get most of the viruses and malware from using Live Messenger and
there's no way they will stop using that. Not only that, how does one
determine what is a "shady web site"?

You're assuming that SSA will have the money when you retire. With a
half a trillion deficit, that doesn't look too good and, as I start
receiving my SS benefits in November, I most certainly hope the US
economy turns around. I especially hope the dollar goes up vs. the euro
before November.

I don't need to rely on Social Security. I have taken care of my retirement
indepndent of SSA. If I do get a check then it's play money.

I also hope the economy turns around. It really sucks here right now. The
housing market is down, prices up, well, you know the story. Lucky I have
development to keep me going.

They told Columbus the world was flat and if he went on his historic
voyage he would sail off the end of the earth or be eaten by sea
monsters.

They laughed at the Wright Brothers and said if man was meant to fly
he would have been born with wings.

When railroads first came on the scene respected doctors said it was
just too dangerous to travel fasted that 30 mile per hour.

Many states enacted silly laws like for example if you drove one of
the new fangled inventions called a automobile at night somebody had
to walk 20 paces in front of it holding a lantern.

So-called "science" once stated the sun and all the stars and planets
revolved around the earth and the earth was the center of the
universe.

They laughed at Thomas Edison and Alexander Bell for inventing the
electric light and telephone. Where would the world be today without
either of these inventions so many devices of today are based on?

Less than 30 years ago they said personal computers were just a
passing fad.

The inventor of the photocopy machine spent years trying to get just
about every major corporation there was to provide start up money for
his invention. They all said no, who would want to make copies of
documents with a machine, where we already have carbon paper?

Had enough?

Windows is popular because once upon a time it was either that or get
a Mac. Times change. If people limit their choices, then their choices
will always be limited. Linux isn't for everybody. Then again Windows
shouldn't have to be either. If nobody develops for Linux, then it
never will take off.

I feel like a hostage to Microsoft. I feel forced to used Windows. It
isn't that I want to, rather some of the applications I use only run
under Windows and nothing as yet works as well under Linux that fill
my needs. Mac isn't a choice for me, I feel and have always felt it
was over priced and too restrictive.

If you as a developer aren't interested in the huge audience that
would dump Windows in a heart beat if something better came along,
sooner or later somebody else will take the gamble. Mankind lurches
forward on dreamers and visionaries. I named a few. I guess you're not
one of them. It's easy to be a follower. Being a leader takes smarts,
and guts and yes, some luck.
