1600x1200 at 24 bits per pixel. Though I still switch from the open
source nv driver to the proprietary nVidia driver as I need full hardware
acceleration support for my work. But, the initial resolution from the
default driver was perfectly fine.

Funny, the only open source software you ever acknowledge is OpenOffice,
and that IS your definition of open source.

According to you, OpenOffice is rapidly gaining ground on MS Office. A few
days ago, you claimed it was 10 years behind, now it's 7.

So I guess in a couple more weeks, OpenOffice will far better and have many
more features than Office 2012.

Stay tuned.......

You may have installed Ubuntu, but what you were looking at that looked
horrible was the Gnome desktop. I think it one of the friggin ugliest
desktops available.

Enlightenment is far superior in polish and performance.

(Tongue in cheek) I'd say you had the EXACT same experience that many
have ranted about here with Vista. So......

Did you check to make sure all your hardware had Linux drivers ?
(Add all the other comments Vista-pushers say when they are blaming the
user that had problems with Vista.)

(Also, I am not saying that Ubuntu is better or worse than any other OS.)

You're wasting your time with that Wintard. It's way beyond his
capabilities. He needs the clickety-clickety of Windoze wizards to
configure a computer.

Probably it's a case of Yawnaire finally learning how to use the software.
The closer he gets to understanding how to use it, the more advanced he
thinks it is.

How did I clickety click into a winmodem with Linux?
typing sudo , ld , help , in a terminal isn't difficult.
Windows has a command prompt....its nothing new in linux.
Linux just isn't worth the effort to learn.

Now that's gotta be the most hilarious thing I've read today! Windows has
a command line? Since when? Please don't tell me you're referring to that
black little window that comes up when you run "cmd". That is not a
command line. That is a pathetic excuse still stuck in the early 1990's
DOS level.

What windows calls a "command line" is so absolutely pathetic and useless
I wonder why they even bother having it in the first place. If they got
rid of it tomorrow then I don't think anyone would be ABLE to notice as
it's not possible to do anything useful with it in the first place.

This is, of course, nonsense. The command set was extended in XP
well beyond what it was for Windows3 in the 1990s. It is extended
even more now with Monad (Windows Powershell). If you install Cygwin
you can access lots of UNIXy commands there too.

Oh please, what significant extensions would those be?

Now if they finally managed to release Monad then I have no problem
giving them credit for that, it's about frigging time. Last I checked it
hadn't been released yet but that's a while ago.

Cygwin however is not a part of windows. I'm aware that many of windows'
deficiencies can be made up for by linux ports and other 3rd party
support. However, if it is not inherently a part of windows then it
doesn't count.

Gee-whiz stephen, your hostility and open contempt towards all things MS
in this MS ng is getting to be just a little bit too much, don't you
think? I'm sorry you need anything MS in order to sustain your life
style and hopefully in the near future you will find all of your needs
fulfilled by all things linux.
I noticed that you have now gone down the required linux path of openly
hating all things MS and it just doesn't seem to make any sense for
anyone with a normal amount of intelligence to remain in this ng and
continue to spread their hostility, contempt and hatred for all things
MS yet we do have a handful of linux trolls who regularly do just that.
It appears you've now joined them.
Pity.

I just installed Ubuntu for two young ladies who are 19 and 13 sisters.
They love it. I also installed it for their parents in their 40s. In
fact, the ONLY person I know over 60 who uses Ubuntu is me. Oops.

Well we all hope you attain nirvana by selling free software to
unknowing and unsuspecting people.
I guess that's your idea of good "karma" right?

I didn't sell them any software. Ubuntu is free. I charged them for
installing it, of course.

After all the viruses and malware I found on their computers, I did them
a big favor so, yes, that's good karma.
