It does hold water. Yes, Firefox usage is growing... after how many
years? And, as more people start using it, more peope will start using it.

That depends on how you meausre the growth... pure in crease in numbers,

That's hysterical!!!!!!!

The bottom line is Linux is free for the taking every single day of the
year and has been for 10+ years.

So the question is, "Why is Linux not gaining any market share on the
desktop"?

Why are people willing to move from Windows to Mac but not to Linux and
those that do try Linux don't last and dump Linux.

You answered your own question. There's no market share sales figures
for software you can get for free.

On can not help but be astounded by those who would mock and disparage
those who are working hard to produce good Linux software and give it
away for FREE.

Yet Mac Market share is still stuck at about 3% no matter how many more
sales Apple makes. That's because their sales increase is due to an
increase of the size of the market in general.

Do you mean like free Firefox where there are plenty of figures to go
around?

So why are there so few takers? If iRiver gave away MP3 players for free how
well do you think the iPod would sell?

You keep saying this despite being presented reference after reference
that shows that Apple's sales are growing faster than the industries...

This link shows Apples worldwide market share. You have been presented with
it several times now, but you slither away like a frightened eel.

Maybe if you keep repeating the Mantra it might come true - in a decade or
so - maybe.

"Apple's global market share is only 3.3 percent among the 69.5 million PC
shipped in the March quarter, according to IDC. But that market share tally
is up from 2.5 percent in the March quarter a year ago."

What's to run away from? It accords perfectly with what I just said:
Apple is outgrowing the rest of the PC industry.

Thanks!

Correction: *accurate* market share sales.
marketshare.hitslink.com does have some figures (Linux
comes in at the ridiculously low 0.63%) but their
measurement method is slightly suspect, especially
since their homepage has an interesting correction
for April:

http://marketshare.hitslink.com/april.aspx

To their credit, they identified and removed the offending
data on May 7th.

Unfortunately, the link

http://marketshare.hitslink.com/report.aspx?qprid=10

which is related to

http://marketshare.hitslink.com/report.aspx?qprid=8

doesn't break out Linux kernel versions, damaging their credibility
(though in all fairness Linux kernel versions aren't easy to get
anyway, even if one has full request headers from Linux browsers).

There's also that "Other" (1.91%). How much of that "Other" is
truly Windows, and how much is Linux masquerading as Windows?
Konqueror in particular can mimick IE as far as external
websites are concerned.

The aforementioned marketshare.hitslink.com pegs them at 7.38%.

Yup.

Just what I said: Apple is outgrowing the industry.

2,289,000/1,517,000 = 151%

Mac sales are up 51% when the overall PC market is only up 12%.

The PC figure comes for your last reference, BTW. In fact, all the
figures I used are from your references, so *bravo*, Edwin!

You mean that free Firefox that has a Linux version for the Linux nobody

There's enough takers for IBM, Sun, Red Hat and Ubuntu to offer it.
