As much as I dislike the posting of links, here's one from the "other side":

http://apnews.myway.com//article/20080310/D8VAQTT00.html

From the article:
"Computers that run the Linux operating system instead of Microsoft Corp.
(MSFT) (MSFT)'s Windows didn't attract enough attention from Wal-Mart
customers, and the chain has stopped selling them in stores, a spokeswoman
said Monday."

and

"Linux is in widespread use in server computers, but it hasn't made a dent
in the desktop market. Surveys usually put its share of that market around 1
percent, far behind Windows and Apple Inc. (AAPL)'s OS X."

Re: Wal-Mart Ends Test of Linux in Stores

Wal-Mart shoppers are very astute. They recognize
a high quality product (Windows Vista) from absolutely
pitiful junk (Linux).

Most MVP's would have the good sense not to even reply to a post like this.

Your favorite store, eh? I wouldn't but any computer from Walmart, no
matter what OS is shipped with it.

Damn! And I really thought that Wal-Mart selling Linux was going to change
the face of modern computing.
I'm crushed.

Re: Wal-Mart Ends Test of Linux in Stores

I just noticed on the Walmart web site that they are offering a 97 cent
shipping special on all computers preinstalled with the funky Linux operating
system (sic) now red-tagged as "clearance" items. These Linux PC's are
selling like....well, no, they are not selling at all!

Its always "this year" is the year that desktop Linux will take America by
storm. Been hearing that since 1999. Linux is an OK server OS for
cheapskates that don’t want a Microsoft product, but as a desktop OS, it’s a
loser. Ubuntu is supposed to be the great hope for the Linux crowd, but
other than techies and hobbyists, no one wants it. Vista works, while Ubuntu
and the rest require you to spend lots and lots of time getting the OS to do
basic tasks. Badly.

As an aside, its UGLY. What is with that brown color scheme?

Yeah, techies. <rolls eyes> If you don't know how to change themes in
Ubuntu, stick with the limited themes offered in XP or Vista. No brown
color scheme on my Ubuntu ... Maybe if you install it, you can comment
intelligently about it, maybe not.

You mean it isn't selling the US retail market. It most certainly is in
Spain and other European countries.

It's the other way around, I'm afraid. Most bots controlled by bot nets
are in the States. Most spam from those bots originate in the USA. Most
denizens of the USA can't speak English, much less a second language and
in Europe most people speak two or more additional languages. I mean,
after all, the people in the USA put an idiot in the White House not
once but twice so you can't expect them to understand why Windows suck
and Linux is where it's at.
