  1. Bookmark this site DistroWatch.com: Put the fun back into computing. Use Linux, BSD. in the right column you can see which distros got the most hits in the past 6 months.
  2. Malwarebytes updated two laptop computers and we had issues. A few hours after I read a fix was out, I checked for updates and got the new version of the update package . All was fine. Our desktop computers waited a day or two to update and they are both fine so you don't have to be afraid of updating the update package.
  3. I'll probably use android when I have to pull my Win 7's off the internet.
  4. Lenovo has joined Dell and HP. Let the BIOS/UEFI firmware recall begin!
  5. Source: More details emerge on how much Meltdown and Spectre patches will slow down your PC | TechRadar I'm looking for the AMD CPU chips mentioned.
  6. Apparently MS has pulled all the patches for AMD processors. Source: Microsoft yanks all of this month’s Windows patches for “devices with impacted AMD processors” @ AskWoody
  7. I have an outdoor mode which can turn up my screen brightness if I am viewing in bright sun. I guess my cheap $80 phone has good things already installed. I don't install much more than other browsers and WAZE for directions.
  8. Why do people need a flashlight app? I scroll down from the top of the screen, (Samsung J3 Emerge - cheap phone) see flashlight and can turn on the camera flash to use as a flashlight. No need to install nything.
  9. YAY!!! I now see zero. I was never so happy to see nothing in a long, long time.
  10. Okay, thanks Cindy. I'll hold off on creating another user name.
  11. Your link didn't help. My mark forums read now shows as /f/-/mark-read?date=1514490656 so it is changing but not ever going to zero and always higher than the day before even after it is supposed to be back to zero. Here's what I saw when I arrived (start) and after going through frontpage news, quite a few forums and marking things read, here's where I ended up (end). With clicking mark forums read, etc. The count stayed at 44 no matter how many times I clicked the mark forums read. I log out when I leave and I tried my 64 bit computer with Waterfox. I have the same problem on that. I've looked at my profile so many times trying to figure out if I need to change something to fix this. I might sign up under a nym I use elsewhere, zlim, and see if I have the same problem. If not, I'll then compare plodr's profile to zlim's and see if I can fix it.
  12. Domain change did not fix it. I started just now at 43 and was able to lower it to 37but I can't ever get it lower than my previous session. This si the address I get for the Mark forums read /f/-/mark-read?date=1514422209 Not sure about the significance of the date=
  13. I disabled the theme I was using - no change. I checked cookies at two spots and they expire at the end of the session so when I log out, they should be gone. I've opened and closed my browser quite a few times and I've clear the browser cache - again. I'm now stuck at 34. And I suspect it will just keep increasing. If I mark forums read it lowers 1 or 2 but still higher than when I left.
  14. No wonder my username and password were blank. Thanks.
  15. Yes. In fact since I don't use the other browsers and clean history of Vivaldi every time I close it, I suspect there is no browser cache. I've also shut odd uBlockOrigin and allowed everything in noscript. Neither made a difference. Today I was at 34 and marking all forums read lowered it to 30.
  16. I've tried Vivaldi and I'm now on Internet Explorer. Vivaldi and IE at least render better than FF ESR but all 4 browsers, no matter how many times I click to mark forums read refuse to drop below 25. I suspect the number will just keep increasing for me every day that I visit. It must be something in my profile since all 4 browsers show the same thing when I log in. (I have never used Vivaldi nor IE here).
  17. Firefox doesn't show the menu items; I have to click to see them. I don't like the way FF renders this
  18. Logged, keep trying to lower the number. Changed from blue to red then back to blue. When I got here today it was at 31. Here's what it is after I Marked forums read 2 or 3 times. Next step, trying a different browser.
  19. Yes, my What's new is now up to 23 and I can't decrease it.
  20. Let's see if I can see an edit button. YES! Saw it and am using it. Thanks!
  21. I did that and it went down from 19 to 18 but it won't go below 18. I repeated it just in case I had to do it 19 times to reduce by 1 each time. It didn't reduce it below 18
  22. Here what I mean 17 new posts showing and yet it says I have no unread posts.
  23. I take that back. After I click on mark forums read, the number changes to a lower number but it never becomes zero. Also, I can't see to find an edit button I only have Report, Quote and Reply so I can't correct my above post. :help:
