1. The “Flash Player Update” link may install on your computer potentially unwanted programs like: toolbars (Babylon Toolbar, Delta Toolbar), adware (Yontoo, DealPly, CouponBuddy) or other forms of malware. You should always pay attention when installing software because often, a software installer includes optional installs, such as this “Flash Player Update” adware. Be very careful what you agree to install. Always opt for the custom installation and deselect anything that is not familiar, especially optional software that you never wanted to download and install in the first place. It goes without saying that you should not install software that you don’t trust.
2. Hi @DSTM You don't have to have Adobe flash installed, the way I understand this!! This is what I know!! The “Flash Player Update” pop-ups happens regardless of the web browser or search engine, and if you are seeing a pop-up from a website saying that a “Flash Player Update” is required, then your computer may be infected with adware or a potentially unwanted program. This infection is designed specifically to make money. It generates web traffic, collects sales leads for other dubious sites, and will display advertisements and sponsored links within your web browser. “Flash Player Update” pop-up ads are distributed via adware or other malicious programs. Malicious websites, or legitimate websites that have been compromised, may display this pop-up ads within your web browser. On these infected or compromised websites, cyber criminals will display a pop-up box stating that you need to updated or install a piece of software. If you click on the “Download” or “Click to install now” button, instead of installing an update, you’ll agree to download an adwar or a malicious programs onto your computer.

4. Hi! You can read about the virus here!! https://forums.adobe.com/thread/1435362
5. Not a fan of CNET, but you should read this about Adobe flash!! http://www.cnet.com/news/how-to-determine-if-a-flash-update-notification-is-legitimate/
6. Hi I have no use for CNET sense they started bundling PUP's with their freeware down loads, but you should read this as it's getting a lot of PC's infected!! PS I'm not trained to remove malware, but I do know a few things about it!!;);) I'm wondering if we could post this Adobe alert some place where our members would see it http://www.cnet.com/news/how-to-determine-if-a-flash-update-notification-is-legitimate/
7. I'm not having any problems cleaning infected PC's here at Golden Oaks. I basically follow Starbuck's plan with a little variation. I haven't had training with Farbar so I don't use it. If my methods ever fail me, then I'll post here on the malware section and get help from Pete! So far I seem to be getting the job done with these! I'm going to add the the Windows all in one repair CD to my arsenal as suggested by Pete!! I feel like it's important to follow this exact order, other wise you could mess up the removal process. That's just my opinion! I would like to have my seniors register here and let Pete clean their PC's, but that just isn't possible. They could not follow the instructions. If I ever run into some thing that I can't clean up, I'll probably save the data and restore back to factory. I'm trying to get seniors to back up their OS on external drives. A couple of them have gotten external drives and I have helped them back up with Macrium! I'm always ready for any suggestions and help. Some seniors that use Chrome are getting infected by clicking on false up dates from Adobe flash. Adobe will notify you in your tray when a up date is available. These scum bags will try every dirty trick in the book to infect PC's, so be careful what you click on! Even Adobe will try to install the ASK tool bar. JRT will take care of ASK tool bar. Malware Anti Root Kit Adwcleaner Malwarebytes Free ESET on line scanner JRT If I'm not satisfied I scan with Emsisoft Emergency Kit If you ever see this, I suggest you uninstall your browser and reinstall it. This is a virus and your browser has probably been infected!
8. Hi No I don't share my home with a cat any more. My two died, but this is one tough cat. My hero! Not a joke but real life hero!!
9. Only trying to say that MBAM is taking PUP's very serious and is trying to get the rest of the security people on board. I commend them for their effort. It's about time someone got interested in PUP's. PUP's aggravate the Hell out of me.:):):):) I have moved on to a different subject and won't be talking about MBAM any more. I think I have said enough!
10. Filehippo is safe also. I agree it's time to end these bundled software providers that include PUP's and MBAM is trying to just that! They are among the first to lead this fight. Don't ever sell MBAM short! https://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?/topic/130156-malwarebytes-adopts-aggressive-pup-policy/
11. Sorry I have no more comments about MBAM. I have made a promise. Emsisoft and Avast are Anti-Virus programs. That's all I have to say about this subject. The below is a quote from MBAM's staff . Malwarebytes Anti-Malware is not meant to be a replacement for antivirus software. Malwarebytes Anti-Malware is a complementary but essential program which detects and removes zero-day malware and "Malware in the Wild". This includes malicious programs and files, such as virus droppers, worms, trojans, rootkits, dialers, spyware, and rogue applications that many antivirus programs do not detect or cannot fully remove. That being said, there are many infections that Malwarebytes Anti-Malware does not detect or remove which any antivirus software will, such as file infectors. It is important to note that Malwarebytes Anti-Malware works well and should run alongside antivirus software without conflicts. In some rare instances, exclusions may need to be set for your specific antivirus product to achieve the best possible system performance.
12. I have never tried to restore after up dating, but I'm betting on SlimDrivers to restore the other driver!
13. Yes sir. It will create a back up and it's my understanding you can roll back any up dated driver. Also you must up date only one driver at a time, which I find to be a good thing. A back up is made after each driver is up dated. I would never recommend a software that I didn't believe in here on our forum.;);) Thanks for your reply!!
14. I have very few freebies, but they are all good programs. If I recommend them, they won't be infected and I will always recommend a site like Major Geeks if I can't find the authors site.:):):):):):)
15. Hi you can see that SlimDrivers recommends two drivers. I'm not having any problems with my sound or grafics, but if I were, I would down load the driver. I usually go to AMD for grafics up dates. I would recommend down loading this software from Major Geeks for a safe down load! No PUP's http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/auto-detect-tool
16. Hi I will start out by saying "Don't fix it if it ain't broke"Having said that up dating a driver can often fix a BSOD or other problems you may be experiencing with your PC. The best place to get your drivers is from the manufacturer of your machine. The problem with that can be the manufacture stops up dating drivers after 2 or 3 years. I have found what I believe to be a great freeware program that might help you with drivers. Major Geeks gives it a good review. I have used it and I find it to be a good program. Very easy to use. I like to use it for a reference. Again I say "Don't fix it if it ain't broke" I like to keep my grafics drivers up dated. They can be a source for BSOD. Check out this software and see what you think. It's called SlimDrivers! It's getting a lot of good reviews. I actually fixed a seniors sound with this program.
17. Hi The way I'm understanding this is it only affected the Premium version. Great discussion friends! I certainly wasn't aware of any of this. That's was certainly a bad deal for people who were affected.:(:(
18. After researching this subject,I guess I lucked out. It was good to learn all these things! https://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?/topic/153649-update-v2014072609-entire-system32-quarantined/page-4 It was fixed hours ago, and lived for a maximum of 3 hours. When I saw the first report, I fired off a scan using the same database version. I was unaffected on a scan on one machine, and unaffected with realtime protection running on another. It did not affect all users, although I realize that is of little consolation to those who were affected.
19. I have had MBAM for longer than that. I never experienced that problem. That's not good; but if it's OK now, I see no problems with recommending it to our members now. I'm very interested in all of this and I'm going to do a little research on this. Thanks for the info!!
20. MBAM was founded in 2008! https://www.malwarebytes.org/company/
21. Hi @allheart55 (Cindy E) Are we talking False positives. I too have installed MBAM over the top, but I really have forgotten why I did that. All malware programs have false positives.;);)
22. Hi! @allheart55 (Cindy E) I have not had any problems that I'm aware of or I remember. Been using MBAM for nearly 10 years. I think most software programs have some glitches some times sooner or later. Are you saying MBAM still has problems or have they been corrected. I'm not aware of any problems! If there are problems, I could report them on MBAM forum!! Thanks for your reply!
23. To my knowledge uncheeky is freeware and you do not need to use the support. It's always a good idea to check all options before scanning your PC with any type of malware scanner! PUP's are not good for any thing and are becoming a real nuisance. Use the author when you down load freeware when you can. I trust Major Geeks when down loading freeware when I can't use the author Not all PC users are geeks and don't realize PUP's are being installed and that's why I recommended unchecky You also need to recognize PUP's and not count on unchecky to protect you from PUP. Learn how to recognize PUPS! https://blog.malwarebytes.org/malvertising-2/2014/07/pups-are-persistent/
24. Hi! I have not attended any kind of school for fighting malware. I have thought about it but so far I haven't made a decision to speed a year in training and not be able to pass forward other things I know a little about while being in training. I respect all who spend a year in training and I firmly believe there is a place for them on all help forums. I have my way of cleaning up infected computers and I have the programs that get the job done for me. I also am familiar with the snake oil programs that people get talked into down loading. I found one PC with 5 tool bars and I often find seniors running more than one Anti-Virus. I seldom have to return to a seniors PC and clean it again. I teach them how to safe surf. I add WOT and AdBlocker to their browsers. Recently I started adding MBAM Anti Exploit. They give me a big hug and a smile and I assure them they can call me any time!
25. Yes sir I see my cancer doctor every 6 weeks. My blood is checked and if my Hemoglobin is to high, they drain a bag of blood. I'm sure not looking for problems and I'm hoping there aren't any; but if there are some, I sure want to catch them before they develop into some thing serious. I had a friend where Macrium would not create a image because there were bad sectors on his HD. After they were repaired, Macrium completed the image. I create a image of my OS once a month and I usually run a chkdsk before creating the image. It's just some thing I do out of habit.Do I need to. I don't know, probably not!;);) Thanks for your reply!!
