I tried to access the Windows Update Catalog site using IE10 (Win 7 x64) and could only get the logo and blue background - no search box. Using another computer with Win XP &amp IE8 I was immediately offered an ActiveX control and installed it after which everything worked fine. IE10 refuses to offer me the control although the security settings allow ActiveX. Is this a bug in IE 10? If not what to do? View this thread

After I downloaded a Windows Critical Update the icons on my taskbar changed, so I tried doing a System Restore. Now I can't complete System Restore getting message: failed to extract the file (C:$Extend$RmMetadata$Txf) from the Restore point. An unexplained error occurred during System Restores (0x80070005). I am running Windows XP, SP3, with NET Framework 4. I have some old software I need to re-install that requires Framework 3.5, which can be downloaded from MS. But, is it okay to have both 4 and 3.5 installed at the same time? I don't want to delete 4 just for this temporary application unless absolutely necessary. This would be temporary, as the task with the old software can be quickly accomplished and then everything restored. View this thread

windows update keeps telling me i have 2 security updates available, KB2656351 &amp KB2600217, i click ok and it installs them and tells me it was done successfully, then when i check for new updates they're there again. Please can someone help me with why this is happening? Have tried restarting my pc and that doesn't make a difference, but from what i can gather i need these updates before i can install service pack, which i need before updating internet explorer. i am running windows 7. I have been trying all the fixes i can find for this but it still will not install. KB2781197 is the update that fails System is Windows 8 I have tried turning off the AV as well, Its Norton IT used to be Pctool spyware doctor with AV but **** failed with that as well The only thing different is my system does not have a conventional HDD, I use a PCIE SS card from OCZ So far three days of re configuring has failed to install this KB Does anyone know if Its needed at all.?
