my hard drive disc is 1.83 available out of 581 on a toshiba C855-S5214 . I have tried disc clean up and disc defrag. they dont do a thing. what do i need to do to clear disc space? I have uninstalled everything that i downloaded, witch was not much. please help View the thread

I have my work laptop set up to automatically download and install Microsoft Operating System changes. On Wednesday, April 24th, when I attempted to work on it, I found that had rebooted. When I tried to start Outlook, it prompted me to set up accounts. When I started Word and Excel, all the files I'd pinned to the "Recents" list were gone. All of my custom settings, Normal.doc, everything associated with all of my office products were gone! Even Internet Explorer acted as if it was a first time use. Today, I finally had time to look into this. I found that it had installed KB284019 at 3:00am (when it was scheduled to check for updates). FORTUNATELY, there was a system restore point so today I restored it back to the point prior to the installation of this "fix". I am not sure what to do now because my fear is that installing this update will once again wipe out my machine! Suggestions? View this thread

bought a new ACER, win7 desktop from Walmart 2 weeks ago. My mail program &amp my financial pgm don't look good on monitor. Determined that the screen resolution needs to be set to True Color (32 bit), not 256. Reset, clicked on APPLY and clicked on Yes I want to change this setting. Programs worked good. Closed mail pgm (JUNO.com). When I reactivated it , I have to go through the whole process again about setting True Color 32 bit. I have a DELL Inspiron 1318 Laptop running Win7 Home Premium, 64 bit. I installed Win7 in Jan 2012. The Windows Update tool in Control Panel worked fine until Mar 2nd, 2013. On that day seven updates for Win7 were downloaded and installed and seventeen updates for Microsoft .NET Framework 4 were also downloaded and installed. Since then Windows Update has not been downloading anything. When I click on "Check for Updates" I get error code 8024800A. The link associated with this error code is not helpful. I'm certain my internet connection is functioning. The Firewall on my Laptop is not turned on. However there is a Firewall on the AT&ampT Gateway in my home from which the internet signal is transmitted. Does anyone have a suggestion? Tom C. View this thread

Full scan done on April 25, 2013 = OK, but states "Virus and Spyware definitions are out of date". I then ran the update a few times (April 25, 2013), but it did not work and repeats statement - out of date. ( It does state though, that "the last time the update was run was at the actual times when I did it. I shut my computer down as I was going away for 2 days. Upon return today, my computer was still showing PC status: Potentially unprotected. I ran the "Update" button several times = same results. I looked again at the two lines 1. Definitions created on, and 2. Definitions last updated. #1 had todays date showing as per the overnight "full scan". The date showing on #2 - the "definitions last updated" line however, was May 27th and not April 27th. I checked my clock and the date was set at May. (??). I changed my P.C. clock back to April and ran a quick scan. The quick scan result showed todays date, but, the "Definitions last updated" remained at May 27th. How can I update definitions to get my P.C. protected?? Thank you. View this thread

Screen breaks up into green and red vertical lines on Windows loading screen and when it gets to the logon my monitor switch to standby mode and i can't get it back on, i've tried all the safe mode options but the screen deteriorate before i manage to reach the desktop but on safe mode the monitor doesn't goes into standby the screen just goes black and i can't do anything, it seems the HD activity is fine. I've tried a few things which follows: Reseating the RAM cards (no results) Tried to use the recovery console both on the XP CD and on the command prompt (screen goes black before i can take any action) Checked the cables internals and external ones (All of them were fine) Computer Specs: Dell Dimensio 4600 Video card: Nvidia Geforce 6200 (latest driver) Processor: Pentium 4 2,4 Ghz Monitor: Dell E551c The problem has started two days ago. I am configuring a new 6-core PC with Windows 7 Professional SP1 for video editing. I started by creating my own account. Rather than using my account, I decided to use the system 'user' account as a trail. I started by wanting to move the My Documents folder from the system drive to a different drive. Choosing My Documents, I followed right click on Properties, selected Location tab, selected the drive, then chose Move. My problem started by not creating a My Documents folder on the new drive then selecting that folder rather than the drive letter. As a result, the My Documents folder disappeared from Libraries and under User/user. In attempting to recover, I deleted the system 'user' account , then creating a new account with the name 'user'. Under User, an empty system 'user' folder remained with a second 'user' account name 'userXXXX' where XXXX is the computer name. Not needing 2 accounts with the similar user names, I deleted 'userXXXX' (now showing as 'user' in accounts login) from User Accounts then restored the system 'user' account to a previous version. The system 'user' folder appears to have been restored to its original state with My Documents included. Apart from my account, no system 'user' account and icon is now showing in the startup login. I have searched for a solution in the forums but apart from suggested registry changes, nothing appears to be definite. How do I restore the system 'user' account and icon to the startup login? A couple of weeks ago I installed a program that must install a component of SQL Server 2005. I quickly uninstalled the program because I didn't like it. Ever since then, the Windows update service keeps asking me to install an update called "Security Update for SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 3" Of course it fails every time because SQL Server 2005 is not installed. Every day Windows keeps asking me to install this update and every time I install it, it fails. How can I get Windows to stop asking to install this update? View this thread

When I let my Acer Aspire 7750G (6GB Ram, Intel i7-2630QM) go into sleepmode and then wish to restart it gets stuck on the screen right after the log in "starting windows". Hello, I am tired, I have not received any windows update since April 9, 2013. Also when I go into the internet it takes me about 10 minutes to even search one thing. What do we need to do to fix this problem. I have windows 8 Pro, I cannot seem to resolve this issue. I clean a lot of my files to not be so bog down with stuff.
