Missing d3drm.dll file when upgrade from windows 2000 to Vista years back now need the software again and can't use due to missing file which Vista was supposed to support. I received a call yesterday from an Indian guy saying he was from Microsoft. He said they were notified that my computer had been hacked and that he would help me prevent my computer from shutting down completely. He made me display the event viewer page, and then I allowed him to take control of my computer through ammyy. He transferred my call to another guy who showed me a list of files supposedly corrupted. He then asked me to subscribe to a protection plan for $299 for 2 PCs for 5 years, or $499 for lifetime of unlimited number of PCs. I then googled ammyy on another computer and realized it was a scam. I then shut down my PC and hanged up. After I ran a full scan of Norton which found and fixed some adware. I then downloaded Malwarebytes and ran a full scan which found one virus: Trojan.Downloader.NSW . I removed it. I then restored the PC to before the last windows update which was 3 days earlier. It took more than 20 minutes to restore. I will contact all banking institutions where I have accounts to ask them to look for suspicious activities. I am going to change all my passwords. Is there anything else I should do? Finally, another question: During the interaction he made me go to pccare.org By curiosity, after restore, I typed It works [/b] and nothing else happened My question is : Does this mean my computer is still infected Thanks for your inputs. I can't turn on Windows Defender because my Action Center shows Norton Internet Security still running even tho' It expired AND I uninstalled it. I also uninstalled Norton Online Backup. For the last few months my Acer laptop has been failing on Windows Vista updates:KB2511455 - Error code: 8007371BKB2536276 - Error code: 8007371BKB978338 - Error code: 80073701KB978886 - Error code: 80070490The main issue that I've noticed since these updates have been failing is the disappearance of the CD/DVD drive. I registered for the Windows 8 offer and was never notified when it was available. I met the requirements however it is not available now? How can I get the upgrade offer? Oh and it would have been easier to find a 10 leaf clover than to get a support email address to contact someone directly in relation to this...
