  1. If you are running Windows 7 beta then you'll want to check out Windows Update. There was a patch released that resolves a problem when joining Windows 7 or Windows 2008 r2 to domains.
  2. It’s great to see Windows 7 Beta finally released to the world! We're very proud of what has been accomplished over the last months in many ways, it sets a new quality bar for a beta operating system release. Building on top of the Windows Vista foundation, Windows 7 adds a great deal of polish and refinement to both the user interface and the underlying architecture, while at the same time introducing many new features and improvements that support new hardware, give power users and casual users alike better tools to manage their digital lives, and enable new classes of application experience. Over future blog entries, I’ll spend time drilling into some of those areas in more detail of course, there are plenty of articles already out there that dissect Windows 7 in some depth, with the Windows SuperSite and Ars Technica providing notably comprehensive entries. I’d also like to draw particular attention to the series of Windows 7 interviews that Yochay Kiriaty has been posting on Channel 9, which give the inside scoop on the development of many of the most significant new features. For now, though, I want to focus in on some of “secrets” of Windows 7: the many little tweaks and enhancements that we’ve made in this release that I’ve discovered and collated over the last few months of using Windows 7 across my home and work machines. These are the things that are too small to appear in any marketing document as “features”, but that you quickly miss when you switch to an older version of Windows. There are some who think that we’re arbitrarily hiding functionality to make Windows easy for casual users, but I’d argue that a great deal of effort has been put into this release to satisfy power users. In homage to those of us who enjoy discovering the nooks and crannies of a new operating system list, I’ve put together the longest blog post that I’ve ever written. If you’ve downloaded and installed Windows 7 Beta recently, I think you’ll enjoy this list of my thirty favorite secrets. Have fun! Read the rest at Tim Sneaths Blog
  3. This could be caused by an unstable network connection. Does the same thing happen when you login directly to the servers?
  4. Microsoft Hyper-V Server 2008 R2 is a stand-alone product that provides a reliable and optimized virtualization solution enabling organizations to improve server utilization and reduce costs. With the addition of new features such as live migration and expanded processor and memory support for host systems, it allows organizations to consolidate workloads onto a single physical server and is a good solution for organizations who are consolidating servers as well as for development and test environments. By having the ability to plug into existing IT infrastructures Microsoft Hyper-V Server 2008 R2 enables companies to reduce costs, improve utilization and provision new servers. It allows IT professionals to leverage existing patching, provisioning, management and support tools and processes. IT Professionals can continue to leverage their individual skills and the collective knowledge of Microsoft tools, minimizing the learning curve to manage Microsoft Hyper-V Server 2008 R2. In addition, with Microsoft providing comprehensive support for Microsoft applications and heterogeneous guest operating systems support, customers can virtualize with confidence and peace of mind. 5. For what your uncle needs standard edition would be best. You install it just like you would any other OS. After it's installed you add features and set it up the way you want.
  6. Log in at Microsoft Technet Right and copy one of the links below and paste it to the address bar. It is important that you right click and copy and then paste into your address bar. Do not just click the link. It won't work. 32-Bit key: 64-bit key: You can use the 64-bit key to install the 32-bit version and use the 32-bit key to install the 64-bit version. If you get an error shift+reload to refresh the page. No need to get multiple keys. One key will activate an unlimited number of installations of Windows 7. If this works for you let us know.
  7. You can also download Windows 7 and get you Windows 7 activation at the link below: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/evalcenter/dd353205.aspx
  8. Thanks for posting these.
  9. You do know a newer version is available don't you. I'll be posting some screenshots later.
  10. I have it installed on 3 boxes so far. The only thing I had problems with was a creative sound card. Had to use Vista drivers. Other than that all my hardware was supported either during ins tall or after running Windows update after first boot.
  11. Make sure you check Welcome to Windows 7 from time time today for the official public release of Windows 7. You'll be able to download the official public beta version of Windows 7.
  12. I had a problem with auto run whilhe installing 2008 Enterprise also. My problem turned out to be a firmware problem on dvd drive. Maybe a firmware upgrade will fix it. For the video drivers I ran Windows update and it installed the best drivers. I also have nvidia card in it.
  13. Yep. It's on connect, msdn and technet. I downloaded and installed last night. The build came up on connect as soon as Balmers keynote was ove.
  14. If you have an MSDN or TechNet subscription Mr are a member of the Windows 7 beta test group the downloads are now available. Go get em while there hot!
  15. Information that Tech ARP has gathered about the Windows 7 Upgrade Program seems to be inline with a previous rumor about three upgrade scenarios for Vista to Windows 7: Home Premium to Home Premium, Business to Professional, and Ultimate to Ultimate. While Microsoft has not revealed any final dates for the upgrade program yet, rumor has it that the program eligibility will begin on July 1, 2009. In other words, if you purchase a computer with Vista preloaded on it, on or after July 1, up to some undecided date (OEMs can choose to have an even shorter timeframe within the one Microsoft will give), you will have the option to upgrade to Windows 7 for free when it becomes available. 16. If the user has no permissions on the sever then the user would be quest. You can't run tasks withh a guest account. Unless I'm missing something it does sound like you want guests to run tasks since that is what a user with no permissions is.
  17. Both should pass through ICMP packets. If they don't you'll get the ping results you are showing.
  18. Looks to me like your gateway is configured to filter ICMP requests. Most do that by default to make them invisible to the world. Check your router configuration.
  19. I haven't seen that build. I've heard it was fake. Rumor has it, at least according to Mary Joe Foley, is beta testers will get the build after Balmers keynote at CES tommorrow. We'll see.
  20. Try this Cannot connect to domain controller and cannot apply Group Policy with Gigabit Ethernet devices and also try this http://www.chicagotech.net/wineventid.htm
  21. More information needed. How are trying to bactkup the other computers? What happens when you try a backup? Can't help without more specifics.
  22. We've been seeing rumors of all sorts start to wash up before CES, and now it's time for Microsoft's Steve Ballmer to join the fray. As part of his keynote speech, the Microsoft CEO will reportedly announce the public availability of the new Windows 7 OS beta. While the new OS has been leaked on less than legal sites for months now, we'll finally be seeing the go-ahead for the public from Microsoft. In addition to the Windows 7 beta launch, Microsoft will apparently be unveiling a new system designed to make networking home PCs significantly easier for the end user. This is definitely important for Microsoft to get a handle on, since 2008 has seen them move into the home server market. On the portable side of things, Ballmer may also announce a timeframe for getting flash onto Windows Mobile, which I know I'm personally excited to hear about. Source: TechCrunch
