  2. Are you trying to access it by IP or domain name? If it is by IP does your ISP allow inbound traffic on port 80? It could be your ISP blocks port 80. If they do run the server on another port use some external service to forward port 80 requests. If 80 is allowed by your ISP then your DNS might not be configured correctly.

  8. 2009 was no time in which to launch a new desktop operating system. And yet, that's exactly what Microsoft did with Windows 7, with dramatically positive results. Windows 7 is the best technology released in 2009. View the full article
  9. This was discussed in another thread and a solution was posted. I just can't find it now. I know it had to do with setting Windows 2008 to run scripts in 32 bit. If I find the thread I'll post a link.

  14. Here's the first installment in a new weekly series that I'll flesh out over time. The premise is simple: I get a lot of mail, and the answers to many of these questions could benefit others. Here are some of this week's best. View the full article

  19. 2009 may have been a downer, but I still feel pretty good about 2010. Part of the reason, oddly enough, is that some of the best trends of 2009 should continue throughout the new year. And that's not all bad. View the full article
  20. Introduction There are a lot of really cool services out there, and I think a lot of them would fit in really well with Accelerators. But even though there’s a lot of value to be had in creating Accelerators, I don’t think we’ve ever had a blog post explaining a step-by-step process for how to do it. I’m hoping this post will help with that. I’ve been working on the feature for a while, so I’ve come up with some tips and best practices that have helped me become more efficient in building Accelerators. There are also a few mistakes I’ve seen (and made!) over and over again, so I’ll talk about those in the hope of making the development process a bit easier for everyone else out there. Building an Accelerator Accelerators streamline the common copy-navigate-paste operation by enabling users to send selected content from the current webpage to one of their favorite services. Fortunately, even though the feature is quite powerful, it’s actually quite easy to write code that uses it. Here’s a step-by-step guide for creating a simple Accelerator. First, I’ve put up an Accelerator template, with sample information pre-loaded. All you need to do is swap out the sample information for yours. Note that you don’t need to be the service provider to build an accelerator that interacts with a service. If you can find the following information, then you can build an accelerator for virtually any service you want. Here are the steps: First, choose a for your Accelerator. This is an important fieldâ€â€all the other URLs in the manifest need to match its domain. Generally speaking, the top-level domain for your service is a good choice. Example:

  24. I've been an unabashed Xbox 360 fan since the console debuted in 2005. But does the success of the Xbox 360 and other standalone consoles mean PC gaming is doomed? I take a look to see what's out there. View the full article
