I bought a used Dell PC with XP installed. It has the XP Home Edition product key sticker on it along with codes. I've recently lost Windows help when I did a third party uninstall of a non-Windows program, and I do not know how to restore/fix the problem without the original CDs. Hello, For a secured stand-alone Windows 7 32-bit system (can never again connect to Internet), what is the best method for retrieving security updates for Microsoft Windows and other products from Microsoft? Is there one download or must every update be individually downloaded? If there is one download, is it only for Windows or does it include Office, Silverlight, .NET 4, etc.? Error details: Code 80070490 I have been trying to update this service pack since June 24, 2011 &amp my laptop refuses. I have done everything that has been suggested on the internet (that I could find on my own) including disabling my anti-virus software—all to no avail. Can anyone help me??? I already have a good working windows 7 operating system thats active on the laptop and i want to system clean it but i noticed that the product key sticker at the bottom is faded away. Because of this, i cant. I researched a bit and people are saying about programs such as jelly bean keyfinder etc... and when i used them. i can see that the cd key the programs show is different from the product key code from the laptop and it doesnt work. What can i do? Its a samsung laptop and i do have the windows 7 home premium cd that came with it. I really dont want to spend money on a new product key. View the thread

When I try to use a VPN to access my employer's server I get error 609: A DEVICE WAS SPECIFIED THAT DOES NOT EXIST. It is prefaced by "cannot connect the Phone Book Entry" I have Windows 7 on an HP Pavillion, and everything else is operating correctly. Except the VPN. I can access through the VPN on a different computer, a laptop, using the same ISP (Comcast). Thanks for any help. View the thread

The games won't install. I'm running Windows Vista and have changed the settings on Preferences on my computer and it still won't install. Can't run from xp sp2 mode if it won't install in the first place. I had to restore my computer recently. I've never had a problem with Big Fish Games before, have played them for years on this computer. I ran it with my virus programs turned off. Original Title: driver not installedI have two new printers. HP Photosmart 6510 a Brother HL-2270-DW. In Device printers, It shows 2 of each printer, even when I remove the printer and unplug them. I have uninstalled / reinstalled them 10 times each. It will also show ERROR in the PC box. Witch reads “ driver not installed” but yet it will print for now. I cannot reset this. My computer is really slow and getting worse by the minute. I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. Every time I try to shut my computer down I am told not to turn it off or unplug it as it is installing 2 updates. The updates in question are KB2656351 and 2600217. When I open up Control Panel and check these, every time it says they were successfully installed but still the messages come up on shut down. Also, and I don't know if this is related, I'm getting error messages when I boot up about Skydrive saying I can't run Skydrive with full administrator rights ...... but I'm not. If I check properties for Skydrive - compatibility - the check box to run the programme as an Administrator is NOT ticked. These issues occurred simultaneously. View this thread

I have a HP Envy m6 and recieve the message Windows Failed to Configure Updates. Reverting Changes. Do not turn off your computer. Most of these links are in reference to Lenovo laptops and my antivirus is Kaspersky and I also run Malware Bytes. When I review my update logs, some updates are successful but many failed. "Security Essentials Prerelease Version: 4.0.1540.0" I have never had a prerelease version installed on this machine. I did find in the above path a "EppOobe.etl File" Do I need to delete it? My version of MSE is 4.2.223.1. I find from my searches that this issue has been around for a while and if the file is deleted it just comes back. The only other advise i find is to just ignore it. This error shows every single time machine is started and is hard to ignore. If there is no fix why should it show up in event viewier? Why does EV show anything that there is not a cure for? I find ignore EV. Why is there even an EV in the software? Is there a way to disable EV so one will not have to ignore? Maybe a box to mark "ingore".
