Are you equating sleep mode with standby or hibernate?

Very sorry. I meant to say (type) standby.

Thank you kindly.

So in standby mode the drives are turned off and one cannot download?

I seem to have a mode where the monitor turns off but downloading continues.

What's that called?

I was going to tell you ----do not confuse the monitor going off as a
standby mode.
The monitor can be set to turn off any time the computer is not getting
keystrokes or
mouse movements. The monitor going off is merely a way to conserve electric
power
and was great with CRT's.
Computer can be doing a lot of work and the monitor can be off. (Such as
downloading).

GOOD!

That's what I want:

Monitor off but all sorts of useful work being done.

But to turn the monitor back on just moving the mouse doesn't seem to do it.

I have to push the power button.

What are the pros setting for times for:

1. Screensaver on

2. Monitor off

3. Standby

4. Hibernate

Space bar on keyboard won't light monitor? Have you set mouse to 'allow this
device to bring computer out of standby'?
Control panel--- mouse---hardware---properties---power management.
Which power on button ---Monitor or CPU? If CPU power on button, you're
already in hibernate mode.
The settings I use are as follows:
Screensaver 10 minutes
Monitor off 5 minutes
Standby 10 minutes
Hibernate 1 hour.
As you can see, I don't have much use for screensaver.
If you are set up properly---when you click start --turn off
computer---standby changes to hibernate
when hitting the shift key. Hope this helps.
