No, he is far from being a Linux Fanboy. From what I have gathered from his
posts and others responding to him before I flat out killfiled that nut, he
has not used Linux period. As a matter of fact, he uses Vista. He is just a
MS Haterboy plain and simple, with a sick mind.

Myself, I personally think that the man doesn't have a positive bone in his
body, has some screws loose and they are rattling around in his head. You'll
do well to just ignore him or killfile him, unless you like looking at his
lunacy. He needs professional help with his mental issues to get himself
under control, and that's not going to happen.

He is proud of the fact that most view him as some kind of a nut case.

I don't really know anything about the man, other than that he has
excellent English composition skills, and a poor choice of subjects to
rail about.

He should be a political speech writer instead of attempting to
single-handedly destroy any respect for himself among knowledgeable
computer users.

Nobody needs to be kill filed. Doing so is merely a crutch. People
should have enough intelligence and willpower to simply skip topics
and posters that upset them.

I neither use or suggest Linux as an alternative. You're really aren't
very good at guessing. You guessed wrong I must have a dial-up
connection, now you're guessing I'm a Linux supporter. As far as Carey
he often gives WRONG answers. A wrong answer is worse than no answer
at all. I'm not the only one that shares that opinion of Carey or
MVP's in general.

Linux preinstalled... its like dying before your born.
Where the f is this linux install base ?
I've never met a linux user....that's the truth....no lie.

Oops... you're underestimating me again. Since you asked...

I would consider myself a fairly knowledgeable computer user. I was
first exposed to main frames back in the mid 60's. I really learned
from a guy in the 70's that had both a masters in computer science
(rare back then) plus a PhD in mathematics. He could do things with a
IBM 360 others couldn't dream of even. That was a lucky break because
he was a great teacher.

While my degrees are in accounting and business, it was one of my jobs
at every company I worked for to convert manual accounting, inventory
and other business systems to computerized versions. Not a small task
in the dark days before Windows and some easy to use GUI.

I got my first "personal" computer back in 1978. I'm reasonably fluent
in most of the major computer languages. I've built over a hundred
computers from scratch. Been doing that for at least 15 years. I've
used every version of Windows there ever was and count the hours I've
spend running some flavor of Windows in the tens of thousands of
hours.

When the Internet was first "discovered" by the public I made a
fortune designing elaborate web sites, most with extensive CGI and
Java scripting, then later with Flash. While then already retired for
years, this "hobby" turned into a very profitable business which I
sold at considerable profit mainly because I got tired of working 18
hours a day when I was suppose to be enjoying my retirement, which
started in my early 40's. Because yes, I made a pile of money too
while working "regular" jobs, too much almost, I'd be embarrassed to
say how much. Hint: I paid CASH for a new custom home we built. Sure
beats carrying a mortgage. All you got to do is write a personal check
for $230,000. That was back in the mid 80's. Appreciated multiple
times since then. So has the real estate taxes. Ouch!

After, I got interested in video editing which I still dabble in. Some
of my clients you'd know if I named them, including Emmy and Grammy
winners. I've been beta testers for both IBM and Microsoft. I'm a
published author.

To be perfectly honest I am sometimes a bit arrogant, a know-it all.
If you had my bio, wouldn't you be?

I'm not looking for respect. I'm willing to share what I know. Funny,
seems most aren't interested. Their loss.

How about you?

Well, Charlie, just do a search on my name. You will fiind just as
many of my posts which will help a man who is not too proud to take
the help as there are political/religous/whatever statements.

A proud man will never be helped by me, I am afraid, since his pride
will keep him from hearing my answer.

Pride goes before a great fall, Charlie.

Charlie nailed you. You tend to swagger and pontificate. You're a dead
give away, that's what you're all about. You see people don't
generally end every post with their full name including the middle
initial. Why would they unless they need to call attention to
themselves?

Like another know-it-all, Mr. Arnold, that has some need to use mister
you come across as way too full of yourself. Yes, it shows. Your
mission isn't to help, rather your mission is to toot your own horn
and say hey look at me. As you've noticed I defrock such posters with
a degree of humor, because that's what is called for. There's already
too much hot air here, we don't really need more windbags or stuffed
shirts.

Well, Adam, I do not claim to be a self-made millionaire. In fact,
I've been dirt-poor every day of my entire life.

Nor do I claim any particular educational accomplishment, other than
finishing the 10th Grade in an ignorant State, during an ignorant
time briefly attending a local Junior College, and upon learning that
I had no particular affinity for any field of study, dropping out
after 1.5 years.
3) During the period which followed [mid-Sixties -- late-Seventies], I
was introduced to various things which gave me new direction in my
life.
4) This direction was not the one you have apparently taken.
NOTE that during the time I was "studying", I always got high marks.
So I am not unintelligent. I guess my mind is a trap for all sorts of
"facts", which stew around till they "taste" right, and make sense to
me. Many of the things I've since learned could never have been
taught in a University setting.

That is the substance of Life. "Life" is not stale facts stored away
in a dusty book in some muck-de-muck's mahogany bookshelves in his
ancient house. Life is LIVING. Living each day as it comes, as a new
experience, a new opportunity to learn, to grow, to live.

But apparently, I have a few things you do not, Adam:

1) I have a sincere desire to pass on the knowledge I've learned to
others.
2) I have a deep desire to help others, whether I get a return from it
or not.
3) I know that a kind and liberal man will reap the results of his
labors.
4) I can be very negative, as you can be. But eventually, I notice my
pride, and my attitude is corrected.

I could never be proud or arrogant if I had your bio, Adam, since I
truly care for other human beings.

Instead, I would use that bio, knowledge, and money to SHOW my care,
by using it to help heal a sick and hurting world, rather than
injecting sour and foul spirits into the minds of all those who read
such poison.

Perhaps you do, secretly. That is good. You will be rewarded for
your kindness and compassion.

If you don't, you will still reap your reward, like all other men.

A suggestion:
Perhaps you should take all that hatred, that vitriol for Microsoft
and put it in a book. You will probably sell a million copies the
first year, times being such as they are.

Do you know why I do respect you, to a degree, Adam?
Because you have an excellent command of the English language in a day
when it is chic to speak gutter English everywhere, in all situations.

Only a logical and intelligent man can command the language of
scholars. So I have hope for you yet, since a logical and intelligent
man cannot long be in his pride without also facing its evil. Or can
he?

That is a question only you can answer, Adam.

This just goes to show how sick you are to even make this post. You are
full of yourself with a head as big as the Goodyear blimp. None of this
accounts for your insanity and how you treat people badly that post to
this NG. And you are an old fart too, and you should know better. You're
too old to be acting the way that you act -- way to old for it.

You're not *show-time* in the NG. You are *clown-time*, as far as most
view you.

Well the fact is that when people post a question here it is very rare
for any of us to actually "Know" the answer first time around. Often
that is because detail is missing, but usually it is the simple fact
that we do not know any history or what is installed etc.

These groups work by establishing dialog, otherwise a simple FAQ would
do instead.

But at the same time you can't always ask the right questions first
time, and you can't always give answers that are absolutely technically
correct, even MS KB articles do not try to do that.

It is a waste of time sitting here just to nitpick others' answers. An
example is I often tell people to think of the octets in an IP address
as country.state.city.street which of course is quite wrong, but it is
similar enough for someone not interested in the technicalities to make
some sense of. In fact since the real address space is simply continuous
even the octet notation could be called wrong I suppose.

You wish I was jealous. You really are an old fool living in
yesteryears. All the years have come and left you long ago. You're over
the hill and past your prime. So, you come to the Internet acting an old
*clown* trying to keep your manhood. You're just an old tiger with
dentures for fangs. You shouldn't growl as they may slip.

Go on and get back into your motorized wheelchair, take some Motrin IB
and roll back to your room. Albright, you had better get your affairs in
order, as you have both feet in the grave and dirt is in the air
coming your way.

Tell us, sir: HOW does that help someone solve his problems with
Vista?

It helps no one.
All a response like yours accomplishes is to point out ANOTHER Linux
evangelist in one of Microsoft's newsgroups.

Rather than evangelizing for Linux, why not try learning to use Vista,
so you will actually be able to help in this newsgroup?

Do you like to help folks? Or just complain, bitch, and moan about
how "evil" Microsoft is?

I have had little if any problems with Vista. Why others are having
problems is a complete mystery to me, UNLESS those who ARE having
problems simply refuse to listen to those what know what they are
talking about. A little humility will go a long way toward fixing
your little problems.

If the majority of you white dudes had studied and paid attention in
class, rather than trying to act like black gangsters, you probably
wouldn't be in this newsgroup asking how to install an OS.

Grow up, kids...You might like it.

Personally, I would rather be an old fool than a young one, since
young fools never learn a thing about our common humanity.

Nothing wrong with age, friend. It mellows you out, annd makes it
easier to endure insults from folks like Adam.
