I see it as Ubuntu isn't printer friendly myself.
I bet most people that already have printers that don't work with Ubuntu
think the same.
So according to you users with cannon or Lexmark printers have to spend
money if they want to use "free" ubuntu.
You haven't been telling the people you are recommending "free" Ubuntu to
that it will cost them money.
In fact quite the opposite.

When something isn't compatible with Windows, you blame the manufacturer
of whatever it is for not writing drivers for Windows. When the same
thing happens with Ubuntu, you blame Ubuntu. That makes you look stupid
and biased, Dennis.

BTW, I am much happier with my HP. The scanner is MUCH better and so is
the print quality. I am also much happier with the print cartridge
price, half of what I had to pay for the Lexmark.

No I don't, show me one case where I have blamed the manufacturer.
Anyway M$ puts canon drivers in windows, as it does epson and others.
Ubuntu doesn't and moans that they don't know how.
They were quick enough to hack DVD playback but not a few printers.

I am so pleased.
HP make good workhorses but tend to be average quality.
Lexmark are really cheap to buy but cost a fortune in ink unless you refill
and then you lose the five year warrantee.

XP most certainly didn't have any HP or Lexmark drivers. I had to use
the CDs that came with the printers for that and it didn't, like Ubuntu,
take less than three minutes. Oops.

No, they rightfully complain that Canon and Lexmark won't cooperate.

See above and learn.

I am happy with the quality.

I guess you mean warranty. The HP I bought was cheaper than the Lexmark
I had bought and so are the ink cartridges.

Now lets talk in your terms then and talk about a five year old OS as you
like to do so.

I had linux four years ago and it was cr@p.
It didn't have drivers for anything.
It really stank.
It had bugs like you wouldn't believe.
It runs no windows programs, not even solitaire.
Now do you still want to compare five year old Oases or do you want to grow
up and compare like for like?

So what, the DVD manufactures didn't co-operate either
See below and learn.

See above and don't say stupid things.

You are happy with low quality stuff as you have said in the past.

Cheaper than the Lexmark? That's a good one, which Lexmark are we talking
about as I haven't named it and neither have you. I have a £19 aio in mind
ATM, which HP is cheaper?
